I still think The Show's bottom line is superb compared to other games I have played (that's why I still play it pretty much every day) but I sure have been quite disappointed by the lack of major progress in the directions where I think an authentic sports simulation game should be heading.

And the issue of revenue stream is one reason why, even though I'm personally not invested in playing a mode like the current Diamond Dynasty, I would not blame the developers to make a microtransactional mode appealing to more people who would invest in them. So long as what the developers gain from it is somehow useful to subsidize the (other) efforts that pushes the frontier of sport simulation game (which is what I am interested in), I don't really care much where that subsidy comes from.

Not in the game industry, I do not know how things work there so my speculation wouldn't be particularly useful, but I wonder if some ways other than a yearly packaged product can be successfully done for a game that goes through continual improvements (nonetheless might not optimally done in a short cycle like several months).

There have been new, inventive ways of software development processes in the past couple decades or so, to the extent that what the gaming industry is following appears very outdated from that view point (at least to someone like myself, who often work in smaller software shops). But that's from someone who has not been on their side, so all this is just out of my curiosity as an outsider though.

You make some fair and valid points. I think the trend from smaller companies to big corporatization, has also pushed the whole focus in the wrong direction. I'm guessing it's frustrating for the developers as well. Instead of focusing on what they "know" to be innovative and important, they are pushed in other directions by "suits" that truly don't have the best interest in mind. By interest, I of course mean innovation and optimization improving gameplay versus strictly/mostly profit-oriented goals.

All speculation of course, since I don't develop games (I actually configure and program hospital software), but an educated guess.

Usually trends run full circle at some point. Hopefully some smaller companies crop up. Or at least companies understand the real "values" behind design and implementation.

I just played my first game online since the patch and twice my base runners wouldn't move. It cost me 2 runs and the win. What the ****? How have they not fixed this game yet?

I really with they would have fixed the issue with CPU starting pitchers getting pulled in the 4 or 5 inning, regardless of pitch count, game situation, and slider settings.

I'm still happy with what they did fix. Especially the Mets 7 Line Army, of which I am a proud members of!

I know someone mentioned that the ticker displays are correct, but I'm seeing them wrong. Played a few games simming to June.

30 team control, quick counts...wrong stats displayed or odd text.

I wouldn't mind paying a subscription on the show if they treated it like an mmo.

I am in May.....I have not seen that at all. I will report back once I am in June.

I got it in May as well. Are you using 30 team control and quick counts?

Any of all of those things can contribute. I've even seen text where stolenbaserbi is one word and it displays sb stats.

I have noticed this as well. I'm using 30 team control, NO quick counts, and I'm about 5 days from the trade deadline.

The stats weren't matching up with the category being shown like in your pics above.
Example : HR leaders being shown with batting avg listed instead of the number of HRs the player has hit.

Weird.

Just captured this while getting a game in this morning:

Wow.

Wondering what is causing this for you guys?

Post patch 1.04 it is working for me fine. Pre patch the statistical category was not displayed.

The game is incredible on all star default post patch. Hitting is way more balanced and the unrealistic power is gone.

Is the blue tint on replays a bug on HDR?

No clue. I noticed when they show division standings now they are correct but they obviously weren't pre patch. But post-patch, the ticker at the bottom is where I'm noticing stats/league leaders categories not matching up with the correct number or stat.

And tabarnes, I'm on an OG ps4. What about you?

That's partly consumers to blame for demanding something new for paying $60 for every year. From the perspective of facilitating creativity to push further the authenticity of sports gaming, I'd much rather see the developers ditch yearly cycle release, but we know that will never happen with titles tied to major professional sports.

And at this point I do think SDS is suffering from rather major QA issues.

I almost wish that people give the developers some slack so that they could get away with a year of very lackluster release while they concentrate on and have ample time to update their legacy code that has dragged down the progress of the game itself, and also implement more effective QA systems in that process.
Good post nomo. (sidebar: When Mariano Rivera was warming up in the Yankee bullpen, you could hear the opposing team.... nomo...nomo...nomo)

I'm having the same issue in regards to the stats displaying wrong.

I'm in june in my franchise as well. No QC, regular ps4. Since the start of May (in game) I have used the play one simulate 5 method.

SPOT ON..............NOMO!

I'm sure the marketing department has more sway than the developers. I don't like ditching the yearly cycle however, after taking a big PR hit this year you would think the devs would tell the higher ups who make some of these decisions that this game needs to be f-i-x-e-d. It's beyond time, by a few years, that this game should be playing flawlessly out of the box (individual slider/settings preferences aside).

It's the game play, bottom line. Not the color of a back drop, not a sock, the game play and if SDS keeps messing things up and adding more fluff (to suck in I don't know who) it will/should lead to less sales rather than pulling in more (you'd think). Personally I don't care how many people have a fit over a sock and lack of immersion if it isn't there, if the game play suffers.

That said, I expect a "super retro mode with WBC players and even newer ball physics and sock colors"....being very factitious, but man, that's been the pattern.

It doesn't matter a hill of beans if Ken Griffey Jr. graces the cover, or whoever graces the cover, or how cool the intro is if the game play suffers.

This was gonna be the year. Everyone...high hopes, we were even told that, but..............somethin' got in the way. And next year the word "broken" will be thrown about and people will still not understand why.
