NBA 2K17 News Post

Innovation. Authenticity. Engagement.

These are the three tenets that the franchise team has been working under for the last couple of years, and it has produced some truly unique content. We have another feature set this year that will both challenge the norm and continue to drive this portion of the sports gaming industry.

The people I am fortunate enough to work with on the MyGM/MyLEAGUE team are of a different ilk. Intense…is the word I would use to describe them. To Dave Z, Tim, Brad, Barry, Leftos, Yu, and Kefei, I salute you. For everyone else out there, let’s go learn what these fine folks have created for you this year!

I’m going to write this blog a little differently than I have in the past. We covered a lot of ground this year. I want to make sure you can understand the breadth of our scope this year, so I am going to write this in more of a list format so you can quickly consume what we have been up to. Without much further ado…

not to be a bug. but leftos where are you guys in terms of customization on generated draft classes ? appearances...body types, hair styles , accessories , tattoos ? The other stuff is great but myleague modes are really bland 30 years in with a bunch of players that look the same. I don't think this area should be ignored. Please give a update on this for fans who take the time to create and edit these classes. But thanks for everything else. We all appreciate you guys hard efforts.

This is some of the best news ever.... FINALLY, online leagues are getting some love once again... I'm not that thrilled about keepers...but I'll take it... sooner or later they'll give us salaries and luxury tax penalties like the real NBA... they can't give us everything at once...gotta save some room for improvement.... either way I'll take this and enjoy it....look at the online association/league messes we've dealt with the last few years! Thank you 2k....now come on Friday!

From my experience they only work when it isn't a user-controlled team.

I'm shocked that no one in-house noticed this issue. Hopefully, it'll be something that can be patched post launch at best or corrected for next season's game at worst.

Leftos,

One quick question on Team Records in MyLeague - are year-by-year Won-Loss records tracked by team?

After playing multiple seasons in MyLeague offline mode, I was wondering if it was possible to take a look at a team's prior won-loss records and maybe switch the team to user-control after years of CPU control. It would also be nice to see a track record of the most successful franchises after a certain period of multiple seasons. In prior versions of 2k we had the team's number of playoff appearances, conference titles, championships but was wondering if won-loss season-by-season tracking was possible.

I'm curious about that win-loss record as well, but the question about switching a cpu controlled team to user has been asnwered. We can toggle teams between being user controlled/cpu controlled during any season in myLeague

Yeah it would be really nice to have a 10-year statistic of the teams W/L records. Shouldn't be hard to implement and this is one of the last things the game doesnt track.

Thanks leftos.

I'd like to believe that if you start the offseason early year one the '16 playoff roster works to become the defaulted 2k17 roster-- that only moves you make change the course of the league. So dwade still goes to Chicago unless I sign him instead and those trades happen as they did in real life unless I intervene. But have a feeling lebron could go to Boston or dwade resigns with Miami. Never know tho. But if I had the fourth pick and picked a player that would essentially rework the whole draft, it would be randomized the draft I suspect.

No, if you start in the offseason we don't replicate the moves that happened step by step. History is rewritten in a different way every time using the game's AI and fully influenced by your decisions.

Regarding the missing shot charts issue, it's the first I've heard of it. I tried simulating and playing games just now and also had QA try to reproduce this in the latest 2K17 build and it doesn't appear to happen. If you encounter it again, please send me detailed reproduction steps and I'll look into fixing.

As for multi-year teams stats, they are being tracked this year but not being displayed on the interface (another case of the annual cycle just making you run out of time on things). No promises regarding whether we'll bring them to the interface in a patch, but know that we're working towards tracking as many years of stats for teams as we do players.

Thanks again. It was present in my every multi-year MyLeague save in 2k16 (like, 12 saves), so it would probably be easy to replicate in last year's game. But let's keep eyes forward.

If I see it this year I will post Youtube for you and the team to see and try to dril down on what conditions appear to cause it.

What's the algorithm in place for player protections for nba teams in expansion drafts. Purely based off overall rating (top eight players of each team) protected, or is there some cpu thought on protecting potential great players who right now are a 68 or so.

# 334 CyberOps @ 09/13/16 10:53 PM
Leftos i asked before but did the option to keep a player from retiring get expanded on ? Last year you could use it once per player and we talked to you about it and you said you would see in upping that to like 3 times per player. So did it make it in ?

Man I'm a football guy through and through and have always loved playing Madden. Love to fo thru Franchise mode and take the NFL into the futue... But 2K with basketball absolutely blows them out of the water with features, options, realism, roster AI, progression, menu speed.. I buy 2k every other year as a casual basketball fan and I am COMPLETELY jealous of the work that gets put into 2k's franchise modes compared to madden. Ya'll ball is life bros got it good man!! Definitely picking up 2k17.. I thought 2k15 was great but Jesus christc they've added so much cool stuff since then.. Amazing work by the 2k team... Fricken Jealous i tell ya!!!

hole you read this leftos: while being in the roster edit mode are you able to Transfer players around without the need to have 13 to 15 players on every Team? Was Really annoying the last years.

No, as far as I know you can only prevent players from retiring once.

Player protections are decided based on a lot of factors, including a blend of the player's skills and value as they pertain to the team, it's not a naive sort by overall.

No, team rosters need to remain valid as you move players between teams, and that means 13 to 15 players. I'll look into ways of alleviating that restriction in the future, and maybe not allowing you to exit that screen until all rosters are valid.

I think I asked this somewhere and maybe it got lost in the shuffle.

Leftos,

Is it possible to allow for the MIN number of players on a Summer League Roster to be 10.

This is what happens when it is at 13. There are too many players that wouldn't be playing summer league in real life having to be placed on summer league rosters. This just kills the immersion factor of the game when veteran free agents that are simply waiting on a call from a contender HAVE to be placed on a summer league 10.

I remember with VLad's editor in 2K12, we were able to just have 10 people there.

Please bring that option back if you can

Leftos, any chance you can clarify what the backboard logo in re-branding is exactly?

Do pick protections in MyLeague/MyGM go for multiple years or just one? Also wondering if editing contracts are back to normal where we go through all the numbers or do they skip in patterns still?
