I can live without a good halftime show but I would most certainly prefer there be one, particularly if it were in the fashion of NFL 2K5. I'm not sure if I'm board with this logic though:

As others have alluded, in many cases maybe portions of the game are skipped and passed over because they have not been done with great quality, or they have grown repetitive over time (as in, it's been generally the same relatively bare halftime show for many 2K iterations).

I'm also worried that the "people don't play it, so we're gonna remove it" logic could be applied to things like the dunk contest and three point shootout (and more). As has been said before, I think those two modes are not played almost exclusively because their gameplay & responsiveness is atrocious. For every one gamer who enjoys playing Guitar Hero as a means of controlling their dunks, there's 453 others who realize it bears no resemblance to controlling or executing anything on a basketball court. But I digress.

To echo what 24th Letter said earlier, I believe if 2K builds it, they will come.

That's what I don't like about 2k. Remove some features one year to hype everybody when they come back. What's the point?

I skipped over the highlights portion every time . I just looked at the top player and team stats. Guess I was part of the problem

To each their own, I think plenty of non "casual" people skipped the halftime show more often than not.

I think there are different reasons people have for not watching the halftime report. I skip it because it's lackluster. They show three random highlights from each team, usually focused on a single player, and have a voiceover talking about one thing each team is doing well/poorly, which often does not even relate to the highlights being shown. Not really good for immersion into the TV broadcast feel.

If they were to put the level of detail NFL 2k5 had in their halftime show, I would absolutely watch it every game. I never skip a halftime or postgame report in NFL 2k5. They show the stats, talk about where each team is doing well, show big plays, and actually talk about those big plays.

Keep in mind that NFL 2k5 was on the original XBox/PS2. We are now two generations of consoles beyond those, so there should be no reason a halftime report shouldn't be able to at least match what they did back then.

It doesn't even have to be as extravagant as having a full halftime show in the studio. I would just love to see breakdowns of each team, including highlights. If one team is shooting well from beyond the arc, show some clips of them getting open looks, and have the announcers talk about how they're moving the ball well to get open shots, and knocking them down. If a team is not shooting well, show that too, but talk about why: are they getting good looks and just not converting? Or is the defense just that good that it's stopping them?

Obviously, that would be a lot to try and implement in a single year, but if they added that kind of depth to the show, I would never skip it. It's crazy to think that no game has been able to match the presentation of a football game from 2004.

So, with what we know about the inclusion of the TNT team, I think I'm on the side of these that feel if a barebones halftime this year means we get the NFL2k5 type halftime next year...

COUNT ME IN! Is there anyone that does NOT fall in that group?

Would I like for 2K to have a Halftime Show? Sure, why not?

Am I losing sleep or "OMG THIS HORRIBLE!!!!!!" because it's not in there? Not at all. There would be times where I watch it every now and then but more times than not, I'd skip right through it. Halftime Shows are always going to be repetitive for the fact that they'll be repeating the same lines to you time after time since they can update it every night. Sure, we might see a few different highlights/moments but for the most part, it'd be the same until next year.

But to consider cancelling a game because there's no halftime show? Yeah, that's an overreaction if I ever saw one, lol.

That's it. You figured them out. Outstanding. And all this time, I thought they did it for realistic reasons. I am the Dumbs.

Eh I loved the halftime show always watched it. But 2K14 was so bare bones and with no custom soundtrack it took a step back for me. If we get a pregame and postgame show then I'm fine. You can see they are gearing up for the halftime show that we want. Kenny Smith and Chuck would be great for that as the player pic flashing on the screen in very TNT like. So the groundwork is being set for a better presentation for all the show aspects of the game. I'm satisfied considering how much of a leap this game has taken from 2K14.

SN: Thibs must have gotten on that LeBron diet after Fiba lol. But seriously everything has improved and if the halftime show is next year then so be it.

I have to agree with this way of thinking, it will be an adjustment this year but if we end up with a TNT style presentation in the future then im all in for the addition by subtraction method.

Overreactions are the norm on the interwebs man. It's just funny, isn't it. Then the conspiracy theories follow immediately after. I think it's hilarious. But I completely agree with you. I watch them sometimes, but the LARGE majority of the time, I skip them after seeing them a few times.

The lack of a halftime show is not gonna make me not get the game, it is not that big of a deal it just caught me off guard. I wish it was there but it is what it is. Hopefully they can flesh it out more as others have said and make it something that the users don't want to skip in the future.

Or, side pick and rolls where the ball handler is dribbling with the left hand and wants to attack with his right (strong hand) to the middle of the floor.

Really, if they are doing any "simple" PnR programming it should be just that picks are designed to get the ball handler to the middle. That's the simplest way to do it.
I think rather than just always setting it to go toward the middle, the screen should be set on whatever side has the most room to work with, until they find a way to let us choose, of course. If I'm isolating on the wing, I may want the screen set toward the baseline if I have a teammate at the top of the key, because there would be more room to operate over there, and more room for my teammates to get open.

I'm more excited about the pregame to be honest, that always seemed barebones to me.

This thread was bound to take that turn though, even with all the great and intelligent people on here, there are some that feel the need to nitpick every little detail and complain about everything.

This game has me counting down the days like a space shuttle launch. 6...5...4...

and now halftime-gate has essentially taken over the game play thread...a game play thread that had a lot to be happy about.

the halftime show didn't make it in this game, that sucks, hopefully they hear our feedback and add it back next year. I obviously don't work at 2k, but I am 99% they didn't take it out just to get people upset.

all the soap box stuff and piling on is just unnecessary...I know thing's get a little crazy around pre-release but it's reached a new height this year, and I didn't think that was possible.

It's really in the best interest of the game to make those moments worth seeing and nit skip. Why? Because in today's world of entertainment, that's where you sell sponsorship space. If they ship a halftime show that people skip, sponsors don't buy that space. Seems that based on the numbers, it was time to rethink the halftime show. So, scale it back, focus on space that people can't or don't skip, and come back to it down the line. I'm sure anyone here with a brain can agree it sucks, but it's a reasonable decision.

All of this is theory on my part. I have no idea if this is the case. But it seems logical to me. So, yeah, it always sucks to lose something you had before. But if you get it backs better than ever, it's a net gain.

Edit: I think, for the most part, this halftime discussion has been civil. Since it was actually in the video, I think it's still on topic. But, getting back to gameplay would be great as well.

I've actually kind of dug the discourse this year. 2K's made a lot of improvements and successfully diverted themselves from certain virtual currency doom and there has not been a shortage of folks lauding those improvements. And outside some of the normal extreme and entitled opinions (and those who seem to live to respond & engage those types), I feel as though I've seen a lot of intelligent and worthwhile discussion on shortcomings as well. It seems like night and day in comparison to 2K14's VC and always-online fueled feedback.

I agree. I think the mods and a lot of OS vets have done a good job of ferreting out too much of the toxic talk.

I agree, the vets and mods are great here. Think it's time to take the plunge and support OS, get that blue name!
