I don't even know what this thread is about anymore.

Let's all page through the horrible dialogue bits of MyCareer. Trim that, 2K.

Just the horrible bits though.

Honestly, YES. I will. Not because I don't think they're cool. But once I see them, I'll be done with them. Occasionally, I'd probably watch just to soak in the atmosphere. But, I won't say that would be often.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about...

I fricking loved the game reel. It was meaningful after a good game. I even loved the still shots. Presentation has taken quite a few steps back since 2k11 in many areas. It was just about to exceed it again and then we get the biggest block of presentation and "show" removed.

I was completely sure the halftime show was going to be Ernie and Shaq. Isn't that a complete no brainer? I did NOT expect... Nothing. Nothing at all.

People will page through the new pre game intros and what not too. Same with highlights. Does that mean they get removed until we just have bare bones basketball?

The halftime show was one of the most well done broadcast components of 2K. They could have at least left it in unaltered. And somehow Ernie and Shaq aren't in the halftime show when they're already in the game?
I think you missed the point of the Damon Bruce controversy, Sun. I agree that it would have been better to replace it with the Ernie and Shaq scenes, but I think having it on the "less skippable" loading segment is better for them.

But that wouldn't justify their removal. In fact I think I watch halftimes almost as regularly as pre games.

I want to believe that it's coming. We won't know until next year at the earliest.

I hate that music. See how boring that post was?

Anyway I'll watch highlights on my own. I just hope we have a better replay camera. That's in need of a change as well
What's sad is I could actually hear the music in my head because of this post lol

I did hear about that, and I guess maybe this is 2K's solution. They had plenty of time to find an alternate to record similar lines of audio though. Tim Roye would have been excellent. I'd even take Bob Fitzgerald, who's worked with 2K before in the NFL games whose presentation is so lauded.

What's Ernie and Shaq doing anyway in the game? I'm pretty sure it's as skippable as anything else, especially if they're not actually doing their real job.

A post game show with them would have made things up a little bit.

If they didn't schedule any time to refresh the content the way to feel is justifiable, sure it does. If you ship it EXACTLY as it was last year, they take heat for not touching it AND the pressure of including a personality that under a lot of political scrutiny. It's not like being able to remove Ray Rice from a roster. This is a TON of content. The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced this is a major reason it's scaled back.

I don't think people really think about it. The consoles have limited RAM and limited disc space. If you ADD gigs of data, gigs of data have to be removed. We all know that the game is already new the disc limit. It was over 40g last year - one of, if not THE, biggest game released on NG systems. With the MyCareer scenes, more detailed player, more audio content for game AND the Shaq and Ernie show, where do you fit it all in? And this will continue to happen. To think that the game can continue to grow and grow and grow and grow over the years is naive, isn't it? NOTE: I'm NOT saying it doesn't suck. But I'm saying that no one should be surprised or read any malice into it.

Crew took 4 years to come back. It was removed originally for cheat prevention. Which became a security effort against hacks. Which became a monetization effort that lead to VC and effecting the playability of multiple modes. Then came back, but not really. And finally came back when no one cared anymore.
There are STILL a lot of people (around 4 million) on old-gen and they sure as hell care a LOT.

My point is just that things do get removed for reasons that don't always turn out. I'd prefer they be left in instead of gutted until a replacement is ready. Especially in an age when disk space and bandwidth are hardly limiting factors anymore.
You're right. Sometimes, things get removed for reasons that suck. This is not one of them, in my opinion.

If it was really because of a late game controversy that couldn't be helped, then I can accept that a bit. Still thought the controversy was overblown.

If it forced them to start the move to a full TNT crew, then glorious. But the "analytics say you all page through it" argument does not really endear itself to me. I thought I had little to worry about in regards to 2K's futur but they do still manage to pull the most unlikely of surprises. Good ones, and bad ones.

I don't think they had enough time to manage all of the new stuff, let alone replacing old stuff.

They are on the loading screen. You can't skip that for a few seconds while the game loads essential data. Whereas the halftime show is IMMEDIATELY skippable.

Completely agreed!

Wait! I have rep to uphold. I'm supposed to be trolling you for your valid criticism! I don't want to let my fanbase down. When I think of a way to do that, I'll let you know.

If it was removed for analytic reasons, it's a reason that sucks.

I assumed the space taken up by the Shaq and Ernie show would simply be the half time show. Would make a whole lot of sense, wouldn't it? This might be a little forceful, but I'm going to say that you don't ax a halftime presentation in a basketball game for disk space. If you care about presentation at all. Period.

I can name several things that should go first (IMO), like ThePark for instance. Because it's basically a tech demo that's a shadow of Crew designed to solicit VC to play dress up. Blacktop can go too, if need be.

If it was logistically impossible because of the Bruce controversy, I'll just live with that.

EDIT: And I wrote this minutes after the new Park announcement, to which reactions seem pretty good. We'll see, but if it's more crew like, then it's a good step. Now how about arenas and refs and pro ball and all that?

So when do the player intros take place? Did they skip? I watched with the audio off.

As others have alluded, in many cases maybe portions of the game are skipped and passed over because they have not been done with great quality, or they have grown repetitive over time (as in, it's been generally the same relatively bare halftime show for many 2K iterations).

I'm also worried that the "people don't play it, so we're gonna remove it" logic could be applied to things like the dunk contest and three point shootout (and more). As has been said before, I think those two modes are not played almost exclusively because their gameplay & responsiveness is atrocious. For every one gamer who enjoys playing Guitar Hero as a means of controlling their dunks, there's 453 others who realize it bears no resemblance to controlling or executing anything on a basketball court. But I digress.

To echo what 24th Letter said earlier, I believe if 2K builds it, they will come.
*cough*D League*cough*

I'm almost certain they removed the D League for this very reason. This just isn't good reason for removing elements that add to the authenticity of the game. It's been 2 or 3 years since 2K removed the D League and I'm doubting we'll see it back anytime soon.

The D-League wasn't used because it wasn't effectively implemented. It will come back when 2K can use it in a way that justifies it's LICENSING.

It costs MONEY, TIME, and RESOURCES to put a professional league in the game. Does playing against a bunch of generics sound like an authentic experience? The fans didn't think so and they never utilized it. It's previous inclusion was a waste of time and space.

Eventually the D-League will evolve to the point where every team will have a minor league squad. The NBA isn't there yet, so why critique their video game for not being there?

Personally, I felt the ability to edit generic players or at least add created players to the D-League teams (like we've done with classic teams for years) would have opened the D-League up entirely. Major League Baseball games have gone this route for years and their minor league clubs have offered a wonderful alternative experience (on top of providing a key wrinkle to their franchise modes).

If NBA 2K removed the likes of the D-League, Summer League, and Training Camp only because they felt they couldn't offer an experience as authentic as they'd like (while on the same hand introducing a fake rival, linear fantasy storylines, and forced Doc Rivers takeovers), then I must say that I remain a touch surprised that they still haven't been able to find a way to allow D-League rosters to be edited after more than four years of development, hence providing the potential for authenticity they so desire.

I believe the issue is the toss up a company must face between "what's popular" and "what best aides in mimicking the NBA experience". As another example, I believe it could be argued that the D-League may have as much to do with the NBA, if not more so, than Euroleague, particularly with the manner that Euroleague is currently implemented (entirely separate from the NBA experience, unless one chooses to add them to a custom MyLeague). Yet, the license remains and the teams remain, assuming to be as a result of popularity amongst foreign markets.

The thing is, I think it's possible to appeal to both what's popular and what's authentic. Most of it revolves around giving setting options to adjust the authenticity vs accessibility of things such as pre draft games. I'm not sure how a fake rival appeals to anyone, and I'm not sure someone who isn't bothered by Doc Rivers' take over would care or know who he is in the first place.

They really should have a few NBA players willing to play as "rivals" to you. Grab a few rookies or undrafted players willing to ham it up. It'd be good for their brand. Or some stars willing to play a little make believe with your character (without being moved to teams they don't belong on).

At least try to inject authenticity and engagement at the same time, because that usually resonates most.

# 340 Boilerbuzz @ 10/01/14 02:37 PM
It's a valid theory, but do you guys REALLY believe the D-League theme was removed from the MyCareer mode because it wasn't done well or authentic.

No offense but: HAH!!!

Let me be clear: I WANTED that experience. The problem is, Little Johnnie wanted to be a superstar *NBA* player immediately! They didn't want to the grind or the building and developing of their player. They wanted to be Kobe Bryant, young phenom playing against the stars of the NBA.

Again, I'm with you! I wanted to EARN my stardom. I wanted the challenge of getting there and getting better and creating my story as I rise to hopeful super-stardom. But the casual fan, outnumbering us by a ****load, wanted something else.

So what am I saying - even if it was done perfectly, people would have still bitched for a change. Sorry. That's what I believe.
