NBA 2K15 News Post

We recently had a chance to interview Rob Jones, Sr. Producer Visual Concepts and Erick Boenisch, Sr. Producer, Visual Concepts to talk about a new mode for NBA 2K15 called MyLEAGUE, exclusive for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Before we get into the interview, here is a quick rundown on some of the options. In a nutshell, it’s the Association Mode that we all know and loved on old-gen consoles, on steroids.

MyLEAGUE offers both a single season or up to an 80 year franchise experience. You will have complete control over every aspect of how your league plays out.

I started a new MyLEAGUE earlier today, in the 8th season now. The number of 90+ players in the league in year 8 is the same number as in year 1. Anyone who has a history with our game knows how great that is.

I've seen a few questions about setting injuries manually. That isn't something we support in the game right now. If you guys need it, I'll see if we can add it before ship. No promises, so don't hold it against me if it doesn't make it!

You can trade picks up to 3 years in advance now (instead of 1).

Really, this mode is for you guys. Once you get it, I want to hear what you like, what you don't like, and what you think is missing.

Manual injuries and the ability to intervene in games are the two biggest things on my wishlist at this point. Manual injuries for obvious reasons (see Paul George). Of course, now that we can edit ratings, at least we have a workaround for those....

With that said, I guess that means intervening in games in the #1 item on my wishlist. I can't express how important this is to me because I don't have time to play all 48 minutes of every game and I would like to have my own fingerprints in as many games as possible. I've said in the past that it's a "make or break" item for me, but honestly I can't ignore all of the other improvements.

- Too many contract extensions signed during the regular season. Should happen 75% of the time in the off-season.
- Ability to execute 3-team trades. Also make the A.I perform 3-team trades with one another.
- More in-depth draft picks when trading. For example, lottery protected, swapping picks, trading picks beyond 2 years, etc.
- More than 4 slots when proposing trades.
- Majority of non-lottery rookies should be receiving limited playing time. They should mainly get the opportunity to play when injury occurs or lack of depth at the position.
This is all good stuff here, as well. Hopefully, we get three team trades, the option for real life draft picks and the ability to set draft pick protection, etc. For me though all of that stuff would be the cherry on top if they added intervening in games and manual injuries. My fingers are crossed.

On a serious note, everything they've added makes this mode epic. If they added D-League and a few other things to this mode, we could thank the 2K gods!!!!! (Not Ronnie2K though)

Can we adjust players playing time? If so, is it similar to the way 360/PS3 does it? Also do the changes control the playing time during simmed games as well as played games?
Yes, rotations are fully editable right off the bat. New to NBA 2K15 is our ‘Gameplan’ feature. Gameplans allow you to set highly customized strategies per opponent. For each team you face, you can set a customized rotation to take advantage of deficiencies in your opponent. You can set preferred defensive matchups, adjust coaching sliders specifically for that team, custom Points of Emphasis, and so on. If this all sounds like too much, you can just set a global Gameplan that you want applied to all opponents or even select teams. These Gameplans are in full effect regardless of whether it is a played game or a simulated game. You will have far more control over the outcome of a game than ever before, and we don’t want it any other way.

The bolded means that individual defensive settings are back? Let us gameplan on how we are going to try to slow down Melo, LeBron, Durant etc. and fail miserably on most nights lol.

I have to say this mode sounds like a beast association mode. There is an emphasis on MY on this mode. You get to play the game however we would like to play it.

The way I figure, this first announcement could have been about MyGM upgrades, featuring something like the ability to import Diamond Kobe into your MyGM once you've accumulated 17,753 points in Virtual Currency, or new GM/Player soap opera cut scenes.

Instead, the MyLeague reveal seems to insinuate at least a partial return to off-court simulation, control, and realism. After 2K13 and 2K14, I think a lot of people were wondering if it was time to come to terms with NBA 2K being a game featuring authentic on-court play but VC-driven, awful-story-mode ridden, lowest common denominator unrealistic interactions off the NBA hardwood.

Personally, I was prepared for every mode in 2K15 to involve VC payments and an emphasis on always being connected to the internet without the ability to save locally for the foreseeable future. Instead, 2K seems to have gone in the direction of classic 2K in regards to this MyLeague revelation. We'll have to see how it actually plays out but it seems like a great step in the right direction - and though it's a return to how things were before in many regards - it's a welcomed return.

I just hope they get the simulated stats to a realistic point. That has always been a huge frustration for me in the past. I no longer want to spend hours upon hours tweaking the roster to just get guys like Kevin Love to avg 10 rpg

As someone who loves playing association mode in the 2k series, this doesn't tickle my fancy. All it is is MyGM with the ability to control how your league plays out pretty much, I wish they would just bring back online association, Online franchises are the future and I'm disappointed that 2k has pushed them aside.

I cannot sell you on it but I think the 80 years thing kind of depends on what a person is going for. I usually only play three years or so. The joy for me is replicating real life to a large extent, but with some derivation (i.e. controlling my Pistons, but maybe finding a way to trade away Josh Smith even though he hasn't been dealt in real life). I also like finding authentic draft classes to make the following years feel realistic as well.

In recent years I've settled on playing one game during every schedule week or two, so I can have an on-court influence as well as an off-court influence (my management skills will determine simulation success) while also allowing me to move forward through the years. If I played every game, I think I might struggle to make it much further than a year.

On the other hand, I have at least one friend who loves franchise modes for the manner with which he can run a fantasy draft, build his team, then reel off dozens of years of dominance, mostly through simulation. Crafting, wheeling, and dealing seem to be his primary emphasis. He often has multiple friends participate - hanging out, drafting rosters, and playing the head-to-heads when they occur during the season.

Essentially, the mode is kind of what you make of it, as realistic and unrealistic as you may choose.

Quick question, I take it we won't be able to start a MyLeague at the current date like before?

It just is an awesome option to just have. I know as someone who use to play MLB2k, you could only play around 10 seasons in the career mode no matter your age and it'll force you to retire. Here, that is a complete non-threat, also it's awesome that players you draft have the ability to finish their career. You can have guys you draft in year #20, that retire in year #38, that's awesome.

Also, I know I will at least simulate 10 years in just to see where the leagues at (who the superstars are, etc.. just for fun) As a sports gamer, all I want are options. period, if you give me that you got a 99% chance to have my purchase for the sport, 2k has given that pretty greatly here.

Well...I thought I was gonna have an extra 60 bucks in my wallet this fall. Guess not. Lol! Thank you, 2K (especially Leftos) for listening to us offline, sim guys. Really appreciate it. Also, I can't wait to see Bed's influence on the rosters. We may not hafta do as much editing as we used to with him on the team.

So, am I the ONLY one that plans on making Round 1 of the playoffs 5 games like old times and the rest of the rounds 7? 2K has knocked this one out the park. Other sports game companies need to take note of this. This is how you do it.

I've got to find a deal in October on getting this game! Must-have...

Sweet! Covered everthing I was looking for in a season/career mode. Time to start shopping around for PS4 deals.

Can't wait for gameplay info, because my one concern from this article was the mention of POE.

Looking forward to new & improved 2K rosters. That, coupled with the career info (and football season) is going to test my relationship.

I don't know think most people will realistically get anywhere near this number. Not many can sell you on playing 80 seasons of association. So they gave us this number to just let you know the limits of the mode probably due to size of files or something going corrupt. However some people just like to tinker or run simulations with CPU vs CPU and let them go just to see how it all plays out who wins the chip what are the stats at the end of the year, MVP, rookie of the year.

I am biased of course but I am rebuilding the Sixers because that is exactly what the Sixers are doing in real life.

5 teams for rebuild.

1. Sixers
2. Bucks
3. Magic
4. Jazz
5. Wolves

No VC and trade override is back? Well then, count me in. The more customization, the better. I am back to looking forward to NBA 2k15 again

Now all I would liked added is that I can just keep my MyPlayer save from 2k14 into 2k15, I'd be even more excited.

# 460 RyanLaFalce @ 08/08/14 01:16 PM
Might have to take salary cap off or have a higher cap. Hmmmm....
