If they don't capitalize on the position, the takedown shouldn't count for much imo.
But it happens like that in real life though. Don't matter if they do damage or not. Take downs are considered an aggressive move. Don't matter how long they kept you down, just the mere fact they were able to take you down over and over again, they will get credit for it. So that is realistic.

GameplayDev, can you define what a significant strike is?

Is it a hit with a modified punch or specific to when a particular strike lands?

Thanks.

Agreed.

This is a conversation that happens a lot in real life, guys stealing rounds with takedowns. There is no "perfect" way to program judging into the game since it is not an exact science in real life at all.

Edit:

I'm not saying that I think that takedowns should win fights, I'm just saying that I agree it's pretty realistic considering some real life fight decisions we've seen.

Sometimes. Yet, when that happens everyone speaks out against it, including Dana. It's not the way MMA fights should be scored. Just because so many judges don't understand the sport, doesn't mean that their shortcomings should transfer over.

They shouldn't be, but they are sometimes. There are certain situations where Dana's opinion means only as much as yours and mine, this is one of them.

Honestly I'm not sure EA can just invent their own brand of judging criteria. All they can so is go off of what exists, or try their best.

Watch Rory McDonald in his last two fights to see how a strike-first approach should be taken. He throws combos but plans each strike carefully and is instantly ready to block/dodge a counter or sprawl against the takedown right away. Obviously, takedowns are gonna happen, but if someone is just spamming them against you online change your approach.

Unfortunately, while the fights play out more realistically on normal instead of hard, I've gone 9-0 since moving to normal. I will give it a few more fights but I might be stuck with hard modes aggressive AI for the sake of challenge that hard mode brings outside of the AI

I have been having a blast so far playing this game, I do have a couple of dumb questions though - how do you get to see fighters pre fight walk outs? Is this only in career or online mode and not in Fight Now mode? Also how do you post highlight videos to the UFC spotlight highlights?

The sport has a huge issue with judging right now, that much is accepted and has been proven time and again. There are some judges who don't understand what they're looking at, so how should their opinion be above anyone else's? Especially the President of the UFC. Flat out, judging needs to be fixed in MMA. So when we know that fights are scored incorrectly at times how is our opinion not substantial? By this logic, EA should also put in bad stoppages since that happens just as frequently and would make the game more realistic. Have the ref come in and stop the fight off of a knockdown instead of a knockout at times..

I haven't run into anyone that spammed takedowns, but when you're fighting striker vs wrestler (and someone that's good at the game), they're going to happen. Which is fine, but if you get me down you have to be able to capitalize. Conversely, if I get you in a thai clinch and don't land a single strike, what should my clinch account for?

So fun to play online when you fight the same fighters over and over. Because people won't pick someone below a 94....

I can't stand being the same guy over and over but that's just me I guess

In order to see the fighters walk out you must have the rounds set to 5 or Championship.

Exactly. I'll give you an example. I'm jones and the CPU is Evans. I'm dominating the fight in my eyes with the exception of the 5th when I get knocked down by Evans. The judges scored it 50-45, 49-46 and 48-47. Now I disagree with the judge 3 but that's real life. I love the variety.

We always complain about games being realistic or sim but when we get realistic judging....people complain.

Try implementing house rules. Like you can only escape from the bottom in half or full guard. If a transition is blocked, u can't try to pass until the CPU makes another transition. Things like that. The aggressive ai in pro is a little too much for me.

Playing through the career mode. Finally made it to the main card of a PPV. Still no clips of me walking out with my walk out attire on. So what is the point of that stuff if they are not gonna show me walking out? Just so I can have it on when I pose with my team post fight?

Pretty dumb decision on EA's part to only have walkout in main events/championship fights. It makes sense if it were a FOX card, which they don't have, but PPVs show all walkouts during the main card.
I went 20-0 before I got a title shot.

Sooo online is the bread & butter of this game unless you have buddies over to play. DNF is killing it, though. If you don't get a finish, there's a good chance your opponent will quit in the third.

The last guy I played had Cain & shot for TDs the whole fight. I won the first & he won the second. In the third, it was a TD fest & once I started blocking his, he quit. This was for a tournament belt too so it was pretty annoying.

Wow I just played someone who picked Rousey. Spammed TDs & subs. I busted him up until the middle of the second round when he went for a straight armbar. Rousey has the fastest submission skills in the game probably. It was about 2-3 seconds apart from the next submission animation.

I'm surprised I haven't ran into any quitters. Only have got to play about 10 matches though and most have played fair

Kinds of players I've noticed besides people only selecting the best fighter

Runners/people who back up all fight

Power slam spammers

Sub spammers

Most people are very 1 dimensional and easy to beat. I am by no means great though only matter time before I get a butt kicking

After playing this, can anyone go back to the previous UFC 3 or does this trump it?

# 339 The JareBear @ 06/21/14 08:38 PM
Uh, I don't think I would go back to UFC3. This game has numerous flaws but there is fun to be had and lots of potential for the future. Who knows what EA will patch and tune.

Thanks for the info. Does any know how to load personal highlights onto the highlight reel option of the game for others to see?
