R.B.I. Baseball 14 News Post

Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) has announced R.B.I. Baseball 14 for current and next-gen consoles, as well as mobile devices, arriving this Spring.

With 2K Sports confirming no baseball game, it didn't look good for Xbox 360 and Xbox One fans, but it now looks like we will see a baseball game for Microsoft gamers after all.

Time will tell what kind of game this really is, but in the meantime you can keep track of the game on Twitter, Facebook and their official website.

I'm ridiculously excited for MLB 14 The Show and I'll probably get this as well just to play something different. I've been playing The Show since 2005 lol before it even had The Show in the title.

Bryan Wiedey from pastapadre is saying it's most likely an arcadey type game:

R.B.I. Baseball 14 will be an arcade game, not a sim competitor to The Show.
He recants that statement so I'm hoping he's just speculating and doesn't have any insider info.

Haven't heard much about the show either and it's mid January.

the cartoon coming soon image is making me go no but I always wait until I actually play a game before judge but the show is way ahead of mlb 2k and this will have to do something I want like 3vs3 or 9vs9 team play for me to make another purchase other than the show 14

It's probably going to be an HD remix like Tecmobowl was.....I'd actually welcome this.

Last RBI/Famista game was a few years ago for the 3DS in Japan. That game was an arcade game. RBI from "15 or 20 years ago" was an arcade style game. I think it's entirely reasonable to speculate that it will be an arcade style game, especially when the official Facebook page says: R.B.I. Baseball returns Spring 2014.

Like I say, I would be very surprised if they bothered to transform the game into a sim style game, and in fact I'm not so sure I'd want that because it would sap a lot of the fun from the game.

I got a chance to play Famista on the Nintendo DS a few years ago, the 2009 version I believe, and it was great. The AI could actually beat you on the hardest difficulty, and they had a season mode that tracked basic stats. I even managed to connect online and play against people in Japan from here in North America. The cool thing about that is that they were all playing small ball! Lol.

I'm not getting my hopes up, because my gut feeling tells me they are going the nostalgia route, which would probably mean old school RBI with play now games and online versus thrown in. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

as an Xbox gamer in Europe its great to finally have a ( potentially ) good baseball game to play

Bandai/Namco still has the website up for their latest Famista games from a few years ago:

http://famista.jp

You can navigate through and see where the series has been taken up to the latest version. I forgot how much they crammed into the game: real life stadiums, some sort of collecting game, etc.

Would be nice if for RBI 14 they took the baton from there and just put the MLB skin over it. Again, not getting my hopes up, and expect more of a vanilla version. Still, the potential is certainly there for something more, and they could probably even sell the game in Japan too. We'll see.

Tecmo Bowl Throwback was terrible in just about every possible way.

There has not been a good Tecmo Bowl game since Final Edition on the Super Nintendo.

The gameplay was fine, the problem was it wasn't licensed so it lost its luster, this will be licensed so it may be awesome.

Wow...talk about coming out of nowhere. I loved R.B.I. baseball on NES. Baseball Stars 1 was better but I did love that game. Still, it would be a few years before I consider switching from "The Show". Actually not even Baseball Stars reemergence would get me to stop playing "The Show".

I'm not sure if it gets better than Tecmo Super Bowl for NES.

My understanding is that MLBAM is developing the game which is not the same company that developed the previous titles, therefore I stand by my comments that there is no need for speculation just yet.

FWIW, these guys (MLB Advanced Media) run the MLB.com site and everything around it (like MLB.TV). It's not a development studio, and game developing is not their primary focus.

That is why I am curious who is developing it?

Awesome news! Fingers crossed it's a an actual baseball sim.

# 76 dalger21 @ 01/15/14 03:02 PM
Perhaps it will be a cartoonish arcade type of game then.

They've also published these:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...rkEmpire&hl=en

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...chiseMVP&hl=en

Not saying there's a game studio, but they've made some mobile games, so they're not completely devoid of experience.

Probably 2K, haha.

I wouldn't doubt if they hired some of the guys who worked on MLB2K to work on this title.
With MLB anticipating no 2K baseball, perhaps RBI is something that's been in the works for a while now.

This project is ambitious, 5 consoles, phones and tablets. Talk about porting to the extreme.
