R.B.I. Baseball 14 News Post

Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) has announced R.B.I. Baseball 14 for current and next-gen consoles, as well as mobile devices, arriving this Spring.

With 2K Sports confirming no baseball game, it didn't look good for Xbox 360 and Xbox One fans, but it now looks like we will see a baseball game for Microsoft gamers after all.

Time will tell what kind of game this really is, but in the meantime you can keep track of the game on Twitter, Facebook and their official website.

Konami make Pro Baseball / Yakyuu Spirits and the cutesy but still fantastic Power Pros. I'd be surprised if they're behind this, not sure they have the time.

If this MLB title uses similar cursor batting mechanics and offers a season mode, I'm interested. The Show's gameplay is a little stale after playing Konami's games.

I agree the logo does scream "cartoony" and budget title though. Not necessarily a bad thing. A helluva lot of graphical work would need to have been done to get lifelike players and ballparks for the entire MLB in a title that would appear to be "fresh" to the scene.

Watch it be some free to play game with ton of micro-transaction because obviously that model is taking over the gaming scene right now.

Most likely this will be more of a Arcade style baseball game instead of a true simulation and realistic game like MLB The Show is.

The only thing we have is a name. We do not even know what type a game it will be, it could even be a management simulation type game for all we know. For myself I am not expecting anything over the top, could have a better idea if we knew who the developer was.

I've been playing a lot of old Ken Griffey Baseball on Snes and having a blast with it. As much as I love a sim style game I am thoroughly enjoying these quick season games.

I am excited for RBI 14. I hope we get back to a time that we have multiple sim choices and multiple arcade styles. There is certainly room for both in my house.

Also, I do a bunch of World Series mode with my buddy (we used to play all the time but his last console was a snes) and I have updated the KG rosters to last seasons. Great fun.

Seeing that Take-Two was publishing this game made me chuckle.
It also seems to shed some light on the reason why 2K-Korea was hiring a programmer for a baseball game.
Maybe TT/2K is helping MLB develop this game?

I have a feeling it's going to be a downloadable game. But sometimes those can be insanely fun. Just look at State of Decay. That was a pretty big, ambitious and deep game.
Who's to say RBI couldn't be the same?

Trying to understand how people are interpreting "cartoony" from a logo. Of course, they may be right, but using the logo as a guideline is silly. I see a classic baseball font on that logo, much like the Dodgers logo. Oh, and a baseball diamond. Not really much more cartoony than this one:

Remembered playing RBI Baseball back in the days. Now if we can get High Heat, All Star, and World Series again.......
One of my best YouTube memories of RBI Baseball was Game 6 of the 86 World Series...Remember?

This is disappointing... no doubt in my mind that this is going to be a baseball simulator.. those guys over at MLB advanced media are not video game makers of any sort.. o well here's to the show and ps4.. dam shame xb1 gets shafted in baseball..

Seems a bit presumptive when we haven't even seen a screenshot...

This could be really cool if they do it right. The RBI/Famista series has actually been going strong all the way up to the Nintendo 3DS, it's just that it's only been published in Japan (as Famista).

Thing is it's also turned into a really good and challenging game in that time. The AI plays well, and they even have a quality season mode. Early RBI games cannot make that claim.

So if RBI 14 is just a trip down nostalgia lane and a remake of those early RBI games, then this news is not very exciting. If however they transformed one of the latest iterations into an MLB version, people are in for a real treat.

Everyone that's speculating it's going to be arcade....where are you getting this info from??? No one knows anything about this game so stop pretending you have inside info on it. Another company decided to make a baseball game which we knew would eventually happen. There is no reason to think it won't be a simulation type game...that's what the market needs.

I would buy a refresh of the original with the only thing changed being the teams and rosters. The gameplay was fantastic.

RBI has always been an arcade baseball game. Even the latest versions that I mentioned, with all their improvements, fall into the category of arcade style. I would be very surprised if they put in the effort to turn this into a baseball simulator.

I'm hoping it gets released for the Wii U/3DS, but I'm not too optimistic about it. The Wii U needs games like this on the console, but if not, I'll still have The Show to satisfy my baseball needs! Here's to hoping they give the Nintendo consoles some love.

Yea but when is the last time they realeased a game? If we're speculating based on a game from 15 or 20 years ago then I think we should stop speculating.

I hear you.. i just didn't see any video game developers or publishers connected to this game, just MLB Advanced media... ad to me if that's what your touting is behind this game then i am bit worried it may not be on par with what purists may be expecting... FOr all intents and purposes those guys at advanced media work on stats and the MLB website.. so you can see why I'm a bit baffled at this..

It definitely needs it, the excitement this announcement has caused is proof of that, but the arcade conjecture is reasonable.

Given that this game is to be released in Spring 2014, a sim engine with lifelike players and anims that would even come close to 2Ks efforts, let alone the Show, would still need to have been in development for a couple of years beforehand. Personally, I find that unlikely considering how under the radar this title has been.

Add the phone platforms and that makes you think of something that has relatively simple mechanics. The console titles and the phone versions are probably going to be pretty similar in order for the latter to be cost effective.

I think the best hope is for something like MLB Power Pros 2014, but it's unlikely to have anything to do with Konami. If it was, then they'd have called it exactly that. "Power Pros" still has a great reputation as a title.
