NCAA FOOTBALL 14 KICKS OFF FIRST GAME DETAILS

Play True to Your Team with Physics-Based Gameplay, Enhanced Dynasty and the Introduction of Ultimate Team

Today Electronic Arts Inc., revealed the first details of the upcoming NCAA football game, set to launch on Tuesday, July 9. EA SPORTS™ NCAA® Football 14, will unlock the unpredictability and innovation of college football with the introduction of real-time physics tuned with the collegiate game in mind plus new Dynasty experiences and the inclusion of Ultimate Team.

“This year marks the greatest leap forward in a generation for the NCAA Football franchise,” said Randy Chase, Marketing Director for EA SPORTS. “The inclusion of the Infinity Engine and several new gameplay features make this year’s game feel incredibly fresh and authentic, and the introduction of Ultimate Team will give fans the chance to take the field with some of the most well-known players of all time.”

Today EA SPORTS released the first producer video for NCAA Football 14.

New to NCAA Football 14 is the introduction of Infinity Engine 2, which unlocks the unpredictability and innovation of college football with the introduction of real-time physics and the new force impact system. The new engine creates a fresh experience, and opens up opportunities for user-controlled stumble recoveries and hard cuts. Furthermore, the force impact system enhances the power of truck moves and the Hit Stick, and creates more realistic and dynamic reactions when a runner attempts to stiff-arm a defender.

A renewed focus on the college-style option game allows you to play true to your team with over 30 new option types, all optimized for a true college football experience. Utilize the Spread Option, Zone Read and more to stymie defenses and put big points on the board. NCAA Football 14 highlights key defenders before the snap so fans can read their movements to know when to handoff, pitch or keep the ball. Play Action Option plays have also been evolved to make it easier than ever to fake the run, set up the throw and burn overly-aggressive defenders.

Additional information on NCAA Football 14 Playbooks will be released on the following dates:

Presentation (to be released 4/18) – NCAA Football 14 gets you closer to the action than ever before and tells the story of every game. Feel the drama of college football from a whole-new perspective.

NCAA Football Ultimate Team (to be released 5/15) – The much-beloved mode comes to the college game, allowing you to build up an unstoppable team.

Dynasty (to be released 5/28) – There’s no single path to success in college football, so build up your program into a powerhouse to fit your strengths and style of play by utilizing the brand-new Coach Skills.

Play a Season (to be released 6/17) – Focus purely on the on-field action and take your favorite team to a bowl game.

Experience a whole new game in NCAA Football 14 with the introduction of real-time physics and the Force Impact system. Gameplay has also been tuned with the college game in mind, with special attention paid to collegiate staples like the Spread Option offense.
  • Physics - The new and improved Infinity Engine 2 comes to NCAA Football, bringing with it renewed authenticity and enhanced realism.

  • Stumble Recovery - Fight gravity as you scramble for extra yards. Utilize the right control stick to try and regain your feet or lunge forward for that extra yard.

  • Force Impact Trucking and Hitting - Feel the power of physics as runners bowl over defenders or tacklers make a big hit on the ball carrier, all driven by the new Force Impact system. Also, utilize improved stiff-arms that take size and strength into consideration.

  • Running Game Improvements - The introduction of physics offers a suite of improvements to the running game, including hard run cutting for direction changes, improved run blocking and a new acceleration burst that lets you get around the corner or through the hole and into the open field.

  • Option Offense - Play true to your team with over 20 new option types, all optimized for a true college football experience. Utilize the Spread Option, Zone Read and more to stymie defenses and put big points on the board. Highlight key defenders before the snap and read their movement after to know when to pitch the ball and when to keep it.

Anyone else see the patty-cake animations from the linemen during the vid? That alone switched off what little interest I had.

And it's poorly done. Which is why people (in this very thread) complain about power running, or the lack there of in this game.

Why focus on something that happens 1% of the time when you can address your poor representation of something that happens 100% of the time.

Just like defenders aren't going to fall down like a cannonball smacked them in the chest 100% of the time.
New stuff like a turbo button. Oh wait. New stuff like combo juking. Oh wait. New stuff like hit stick. Oh wait.

Okay, new arcady forearm shiver animations. lol.

Seriously though I understand what you are saying. They wanna show off the features that are going to be on the back of the box. Noted. But EA has a track record of overdoing their new features, things they are showing off early and often. Subtlety hasn't been a strong suit. It would have been nice if they would have shown a wide variety of this "new feature".

It's a long running complaint about the company , so I think the skepticism of seeing defenders mindlessly run into backs without wrapping who destroy them with the same hand that holds the ball is justified. History says that's going to be a problem.

We'll see what the next batch of hype videos bring re: gameplay.

Can't wait for the 18th and 28th of next month. Likely will be a preorder, it will be absolutely beautiful if the physics and momentum works as it did in the trailer in actual gameplay and not just due to it being 'promotionally tuned' so to speak. If that works along with an adaptive coaching AI, I will be happy come July 9th.

As of right now I'm just not buying into the hype this year. Until I see more videos that is. EA really need to convince me this year. 2 years later and I'm still playing Madden11. Please EA just for once give a reason to keep NCAA and Madden this year. Not to buy the games and 3 weeks later sale them because the gameplay is not all that.

I just had to drop in and say this. This thread proves how many valuable members this forum has. Very good constructive criticism.

At this point all this vid proved to me was that once again EA is putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound. Yes there are improvements, but if those improvements equate to a guy raising his grade from a 55 to a 59 then what's the point? An F is an F. I'm not sugesting this game or series has rated an F year after year, just trying to point out the lack of innovation in the gameplay dept we have experienced for so long in this game. I thought Phobia's post explained that brilliantly.

The lack of fluidity of player movement and canned animations hurt realism, which in turn makes it difficult for players like myself to experiance true immersion. I'm very interested to see what kind of attention the horrible CPU AI will be receiving this year. That has to be addressed more than anything IMO.

I hope so, but the proof will be in the product that hits store shelves in July.

Keep in mind that last year the dev team talked about bringing over the guys who do the audio on FIFA to enhance the sound of the crowd. They also went to specific games to record team-specific chants. What was the result? Well, there were noticeable improvements with crowd swells but the volume on the crowd was so low that it did more harm than good when it came to game presentation. And what about those team-specific chants....they were there, but again you had to pay close attention to hear them. I know that crowd noise is not the only thing to this game but for a game that supposedly prides itself on a realistic tv presentation I spent my time with '13 wondering if these folks actually took the time to watch college football on tv.

I really want to enjoy this series again, so don't get me wrong. I've just been let down by the hype too many times over the past few years to get as excited as I'd like to be over what they've put together this year.

I received that info from Haumiller in one of the articles or interviews.

Only way we can tell for ouselves will be from the demos.

0:40 (+) Nice cut animation. (-) This is where proper defensive animations come into play to add to the overall look. Defender should be extending that left arm in a grab attempt.

0:43 (+) Another nice cut animation. (-) Once again, need that reach animation implemented gents.

0:46 (+) Exactly what I'm talking about. Nice cut with the defender then going off balance and reaching for the RB. Perfect look. A reach similar to this should be implemented in all the interactions with defenders and RBs.

0:53 (+) No real gameplay significance but I like that lighting and that angle. Just the overall look of the players here catch my attention.

1:02 (-) Still has a somewhat robotic look to the running animations. At this point I dont think this will be remedied within the current console generation.

1:10 (-) Still traces of the zig zag running. You can clearly see it as the RB maneuvers between defenders. Not a good look gents.

1:16 (+) Nice animation here with the RB planting and extending his arm. The ESPN article actually states that RBs now will push off the backs of their O line. This looks like that might be it. This means the limbs are moving independently now which goes back to my previous statement about the defenders reaching in ALL situations. Try to make that happen please.

1:34 (-) That should've been some type of struggle there. Very over the top truck animation in my opinion. Took me out of the moment. Not good.

1:35 (-) I'm prepared for odd things to happen even with the improved infinity engine. That hit did absolutely NOTHING to suspend my disbelief. Totally off. Not a good look.

1:36 (-) Another odd infinity/wrong animation wrong time moment. Not possible. At least not at that angle.

1:39 (+) Nice truck. Good interaction between RB and defender.

1:44 (-) Strange. Defender just flew back. Should've been some type of struggle there.

1:45 (+) PERFECT! Looked very good. Where did that truck come from!!! (Old heads remember the Madden commentary from back in the day)

1:50 (-) Negativo!! Lifted off of his feet and flew back. Nah. Come on now.

1:52 (+) Perfect stiff arm fight animation. I can dig it.

Evened out. 9 plus and 9 minus!! Overall its looking pretty decent though. I'm on the train. Wish they could somehow fix the robotic/stiff aura the game gives off. Animations dont mesh well much of the time so it kind of jars you out of the experience.
Yes! Finally a good break down. If you're gonna talk about what you saw wrong at least let everybody know where you saw it. My coaches when they watched film and you did something wrong they didn't go like "that's bullcrap" and didn't show you the footage where you did something wrong. That was a good example of *constructive* criticism. Hey and at 1:50...yea...no deal lol.

Remember that this is still a WIP guys. With the infinity engine now in, does Weight actually matter for OL? Will height come into play for WR/CB interaction?

# 112 Scrapps @ 04/04/13 09:44 AM
You know how you can tell when a game has a really poor physics engine? When after watching gameplay vids, you don't see any evidence of physics. Is just more of the same nonsense from EA.

# 113 demon19000 @ 04/04/13 10:15 AM
Awesome! Some people didn't like the Infinity Engine, but I loved it. I played Madden 13 so much more than NCAA 13 cause of it last year. This year it looks like I'll be putting in a lot more NCAA time.

# 114 Nexgenrulz @ 04/04/13 11:34 AM
Still looks like the same ol same ol. A fresh coat of paint on the same game they've been turning out year after year. **Yawn**

i wont draw too many conclusions off of 1 video.

however, being as i was finally able to break away from my addiction w/ ncaa13; i didnt see anything in this video that made me think i should be excited to buy ncaa14.

in fact after reading the 1st few pages of this thread b4 actually watching the video; i think its safe for me to say that i came away from the video feeling slightly disappointed.

i guess there's more than just the EA hype machine at work here. theres the fan hype machine as well it seems. fans 1. me - 0

to end on a positive note; its a long ways still til 7/9/13

We don't know yet. I hope they have. There is this bit from the EJ interview:

"That doesn't mean the game is overpowering to the offense though. Manuel said he felt the game was much smarter when it came to how defenders react to the ball and what you are doing, citing the DBs ability to jump routes as just one example of this improvement on the defensive end."

# 118 Eman5805 @ 04/04/13 03:42 PM
It's better than it's ever been. But it's still not there. That several frame pause while animations interrupt and transition into new ones. It's just not doing it for me. I like the strides they're making. But...

Really hoping they built the next gen engine from the ground up to move and look even closer to the real deal. And there's very little body type differences going on. Too much samey looking players at certain positions.

# 119 TalenT @ 04/04/13 03:56 PM
I don't see the sliding some are talkin' about. It looks pretty good to me. I will agree about the running animations though. They run a little awkward and stiff. They fix that and we're good.

# 120 jfsolo @ 04/04/13 04:12 PM
If they can avoid something major, like the DB glitch, I'll get 400 plus hours from this game, great value for me. I already knew that I was buying it (Pre-ordered when I got Bioshock Infinite) and what we've learned so far hasn't made me regret doing so the slightest bit. Throw in the recruiting changes we heard a little about a while back, and the coaching skills stuff that's been hinted at, and I'll be good to go.

I know that I should avoid the forums when the game releases, but I won't. The meltdowns on this board are a form a grand entertainment in their own right.
