NCAA FOOTBALL 14 KICKS OFF FIRST GAME DETAILS

Play True to Your Team with Physics-Based Gameplay, Enhanced Dynasty and the Introduction of Ultimate Team

Today Electronic Arts Inc., revealed the first details of the upcoming NCAA football game, set to launch on Tuesday, July 9. EA SPORTS™ NCAA® Football 14, will unlock the unpredictability and innovation of college football with the introduction of real-time physics tuned with the collegiate game in mind plus new Dynasty experiences and the inclusion of Ultimate Team.

“This year marks the greatest leap forward in a generation for the NCAA Football franchise,” said Randy Chase, Marketing Director for EA SPORTS. “The inclusion of the Infinity Engine and several new gameplay features make this year’s game feel incredibly fresh and authentic, and the introduction of Ultimate Team will give fans the chance to take the field with some of the most well-known players of all time.”

Today EA SPORTS released the first producer video for NCAA Football 14.

New to NCAA Football 14 is the introduction of Infinity Engine 2, which unlocks the unpredictability and innovation of college football with the introduction of real-time physics and the new force impact system. The new engine creates a fresh experience, and opens up opportunities for user-controlled stumble recoveries and hard cuts. Furthermore, the force impact system enhances the power of truck moves and the Hit Stick, and creates more realistic and dynamic reactions when a runner attempts to stiff-arm a defender.

A renewed focus on the college-style option game allows you to play true to your team with over 30 new option types, all optimized for a true college football experience. Utilize the Spread Option, Zone Read and more to stymie defenses and put big points on the board. NCAA Football 14 highlights key defenders before the snap so fans can read their movements to know when to handoff, pitch or keep the ball. Play Action Option plays have also been evolved to make it easier than ever to fake the run, set up the throw and burn overly-aggressive defenders.

Additional information on NCAA Football 14 Playbooks will be released on the following dates:

Presentation (to be released 4/18) – NCAA Football 14 gets you closer to the action than ever before and tells the story of every game. Feel the drama of college football from a whole-new perspective.

NCAA Football Ultimate Team (to be released 5/15) – The much-beloved mode comes to the college game, allowing you to build up an unstoppable team.

Dynasty (to be released 5/28) – There’s no single path to success in college football, so build up your program into a powerhouse to fit your strengths and style of play by utilizing the brand-new Coach Skills.

Play a Season (to be released 6/17) – Focus purely on the on-field action and take your favorite team to a bowl game.

Experience a whole new game in NCAA Football 14 with the introduction of real-time physics and the Force Impact system. Gameplay has also been tuned with the college game in mind, with special attention paid to collegiate staples like the Spread Option offense.
  • Physics - The new and improved Infinity Engine 2 comes to NCAA Football, bringing with it renewed authenticity and enhanced realism.

  • Stumble Recovery - Fight gravity as you scramble for extra yards. Utilize the right control stick to try and regain your feet or lunge forward for that extra yard.

  • Force Impact Trucking and Hitting - Feel the power of physics as runners bowl over defenders or tacklers make a big hit on the ball carrier, all driven by the new Force Impact system. Also, utilize improved stiff-arms that take size and strength into consideration.

  • Running Game Improvements - The introduction of physics offers a suite of improvements to the running game, including hard run cutting for direction changes, improved run blocking and a new acceleration burst that lets you get around the corner or through the hole and into the open field.

  • Option Offense - Play true to your team with over 20 new option types, all optimized for a true college football experience. Utilize the Spread Option, Zone Read and more to stymie defenses and put big points on the board. Highlight key defenders before the snap and read their movement after to know when to pitch the ball and when to keep it.

I feel like they are going in the right direction. (just slowly) but for me its all going to depend on the OL/DL play. That has always been on the top of my wish list. You can't have a run or pass game with out that good line play. I need my line to be able to move and actually try to stay on their block. I need my D-line to have more stunts and better move to break free from a block. (not just pull away) So I will hold out until they talk more about line play. on another note its really lame that that you can't have team colored cleats.

The worst thing from last year: the player would run and say he steps down with his left foot going North, the user would hit up and to the left (NW) on their joystick, and the runners next step would be NW with their right leg, with their body still straight up. This is literally impossible to do in real life and it happened every single play last year.

The next would be how the runners kept their shoulders squared when you tried to turn, so it would just be their lower body turning and their upper body staying still. I still want to know who's grand idea that was.

If these things are fixed, the game will look better x 1000000

I like some of the improvements and see some issues but not really concerned since next gen is almost upon us for both this and Madden. THAT'S where I expect bigger improvements such as player movement and animations and all that. Just going to enjoy what the last hoorah of this gen brings although I won't be buying this, just gunna play the demo. Waiting for Madden 25.

I agree Trey, I think it is very telling that for the last game of an 8 year console generation, one of the top gameplay features is realistic footplanting.

I am dissapointed in this news because I can tell this is very small scale. They didnt overhaul the locomotion or running animations, its more a re-write of how the ball carrier moves.

Here is the elephant in the room question EA... Does this new footplanting just include the person carrying the football? For this to be legit, it needs to extend to every player on the field.

Personally, I am ready for next-gen. I am hoping the madden team is pouring a TON of rescources into its development, to avoid this disaster of a football gaming era we have had to endure.

The foot planting and animations aren't perfect but they're getting better. A lot of folks here sound extremely critical and somewhat entitled when the problem of foot planting while maintaining control hasn't quite been solved in any game in any genre.

It's a difficult computer science problem and it's not going to be fixed in next gen consoles right away either. I think the engine used by back breaker might have been the closest and they seemed to be the only guys working on the problem on that high a level.

That said, there are probably ways they can smooth out some of the transitions (at the cost of a little control).

My FG watched the video on YouTube with me and just "went hope you don't spend $60 on that. Looks no different than what you play now."

Will try out the demo and wait for a price drop. I appreciate the work put in, but this is a case of a little too late with the new consoles coming out.

I like a lot of the animations, they look clean, I want to see it in an actual game. they put the new nike vapor one ball in, which we are testing out now(UConn) and it would be cool to have the adidas teams use their wilson balls etc in the game.just more realism. As an equipment manager, I would love to get my hands on the game behind the scenes and just add so much of the little things we do throughout the day to make this game realistic so much more.

Do we really need another speed burst?

So now you can speed thru the hole, then probably speed burst again afterwards?

sounds like more "wiiiiiidddee open gameplay"

I wouldn't bank on it...I think their resources are being spent on securing a new deal with the NFL.

1. They need to slow down the change of direction speed. That would eliminate all the skating we are seeing and give the illusion that these players have actual weight to them.

2. Tackling needs to be over hauled. Instead of trying to wrap them up, I'm still seeing defenders basically either:

A) Running into the ball carrier and players fall down

B) Running into the ball carrier and simply trying to push them down with both arms full extended aka superman tackle. You would break your arms in real life if you had both arms fully extended trying to stop somebody running directly at you full speed.

3. Gang tackling and consecutive hit tackles need to be over hauled. When the second defender comes in, he isn't even aiming for the ball carrier, instead he is just running up right, stops and simply trips over the other defender and fall to the ground. Defenders need to DRIVE THROUGH with their tackles.

4. Seen a couple of times in the video where the running back truck 2 defenders at the same time. That shouldn't happen, unless he is the incredible hulk.

5. They talk about accelerating through the hole. Hopefully this means line interaction has been FIXED and that defensive tackles don't magically automatically disengage from their block, do a 180 and warp into your back as soon as you cross the line of scrimmage like they normally did the past 7 years. It was like you hit turbo, everybody instantly shed their block at the same time.

6. Back jukes back in the game ? Finally, EA should have never took it out in the 1st place.

7. Stumble recovery ? Finally......been asking for that for years now.

8. 20 Option types ? EA love their high numbers. I wonder how many I will ACTUALLY see. Had 430 new catch animations last year, I only seen 12 of them out of 7 months worth of playing NCAA 13.

Anyway......on the right track so far. Got to tighten up that sliding and get rid of that superman tackle animation. Wrap tackles EA, not 2 handed pushes and not some have the defender just run into the ball carrier and call it a tackle. Wrap tackles. Get low and drive through.

Slow down the change of direction speed. Inject some sort of deceleration and inertia in this game.

Player models......sorry they are way too rigid, too stiff looking. They need more individual limb flex and bends to them. Currently the whole body is just way too straight when they are moving around.

going off my last post.. looking through the facebook pictures they have of the game and the Maryland snapshot has the RB with an UnderArmour ball..no school actually uses them but it's neat to see the different sponsors have different balls. I also think how the RB carries the ball is off, i know many players are taught differently, but its always high and tight, the game makes it look like a loaf of bread.

Typical EA Sports Sizzle trailer.

How can you hype Footplanting when the ball carrier was the only one actually Footplanting?

# 74 pote14 @ 04/03/13 05:13 PM
How is anyone excited about the "speed burst"? They've had this since PS2, then took the turbo button away and now are just bringing it back again, woo hoo. Also, the players still run like they have a board strapped to their back and the shoulder pads looks way to oversized. Obviously the graphics do look good but lets face it that was never the problem, I'm not on the hype train yet about the game play.

# 75 WackyD321 @ 04/03/13 05:23 PM
Why still no chain gang on the sidelines EA? Madden had it for a few years now so why is it not in NCAA? It's the little things

# 76 CT Pitbull @ 04/03/13 05:28 PM
am i the only one that is just totally not impressed with this at all?.. looks just like they kept ncaa graphics and slapped in madden 13 infinity and NOW all of a sudden its footplanting?..it looked like a lot of ice skating still and from what i saw the ball carrier still has the "weightlessness" factor. the way the ball carrier changes directions is STILL on a dime so "zig zag" running is still gonna be a huge factor ...i dont know man i wanted to be excited but i didnt see much new here besides madden 13 infinity...kinda disappointed but thats just my opinion

# 77 CP3_4MVP @ 04/03/13 05:43 PM
I'm excited for this, but am going to wait until I actually see some gameplay to see if, with the new engine, comes new bugs. I hope not, and if there aren't any, EA will have my 60 dollars.

# 78 LucianoJJ @ 04/03/13 05:56 PM

Glad to see the option will finally be overhauled. The option is the true authentic offense of the college game. Now that the zone read option has made it into more NFL play books, Tiburon had to fix the option in their games.

# 79 BLACKjersey53 @ 04/03/13 05:56 PM
Anybody notice the absence of the "I have tendinitis in my elbow and am simultaneously holding in a massive bowel movement" running animation? It kind of resembled Napoleon Dynamite's run, but with more urgency.

# 80 BA2929 @ 04/03/13 05:59 PM
I watched the video once and I'm not going to watch it over and over again to nitpick it frame by frame, second by second. I don't do that to hype videos.

Anyway, I'm not blown away and I'm not disappointed. I'm in the middle. Maybe it's because I've been underwhelmed by the NCAA product the past few years. Maybe it's because it's April and I don't want to think about NCAA football just yet. Either way, the video didn't get me drooling for July.

Honestly, if you had told me this was NCAA 13, I probably would have believed you. The only things I noticed that was different were the guys flipping over when they jump and were hit and a few new fast juke moves. Foot planting doesn't get me all warm and fuzzy inside.
