I think its just a case of not being able to stop a pre-determined animation. I wish there was a way to cancel out of it when you need to hurry a throw. It happens sometimes to me when outfielders brace themselves against the wall, it seems to take them forever to get the throw back in.
Pre-loading your throw and taking good routes to the ball are honestly the best way to avoid this (though you'll never be able to avoid it completely. It's an animation driven system). Especially the former.
So even though I've known about it for at least the past two years, I just got burned on using up my bench and having guys out of position, because we STILL cannot swap defense positions once you use up the last bench player.
I got stuck with Pedroia catching & Saltalamachia in LF for 3 extra innings.
Has SCEA ever acknowledged this?
Such a seemingly 'simple' flaw to fix in a great game that deals nicely with a lot of other rules to follow.

So this means it is now fixed going forward? You mean for The Show '14 I guess?
I get severely irked by the lack of urgency on some of the fielding plays. Can be frustrating at times.
I actually feel the opposite, pertaining to the animations in Manage Only Mode.
I've actually been saving a bunch of replays of routine plays where the fielders just field the ball way too quickly; it looks really unnatural.
I think a lot of animations were sped up because of the thread a year or two ago that a lot of people were claiming that the fielders were double-pumping the ball and taking too many steps, etc.
But I see a lot of plays this year where the fielders throw on the run, or off-balanced, or just absolutely rushed for no reason. Anyone else agree?

Yeah, this goes to Fielder AI. I would hope that if it's possible going forward, that the speed of the fielders making plays would better match the urgency of the play. IRL, MLB players/fielders always sense or "know" how much time they have to make a play and very often somehow seem to get the runner just by a step. Sometimes they need to rush to make that happen, other times they can take their time to do that.
To go along with this, I also think if it's possible, that errors should happen more frequently when fielders are forced to speed up their plays. Fielders DO obviously make errors on routine plays, but I think MORE errors happen when they are forced to speed up their routine, when they're moving their feet, throwing across their body, etc. I don't know if this is already coded into the AI, but IMO it could certainly be improved.

This might definitely be the best version of the show ever the batting is tighter the pitching is still spot presentation is damn near perfect I actually made a RTTS with a 3B instead of a pitcher and its actually fun Sony has done a great job this year
I've noticed that the game loves to show replays of outs being recorded but not of base hits. It's like I will smash the ball for a double, an amazing hit, and the game doesn't show a replay. But most hits that are thrown out always have a replay. It kind of bugs me.

Yeah something drastically changed between MLB 11 and 12 in how the game selects what to replay.

Yeah, it seems that the triggers may be off a little. I've seen them (offensive replays), but definitely not as frequently as before. Saw a really nice one yesterday, on a hanger that I line back over 2B for a hit.
So just downloaded the newest online roster update and was wondering if they will eventually update the player's photos with the real photos once they have changed teams. Also, there are still players like Carter Capps and Stephen Pryor who played with the team last year and don't have their real photos. Also, why haven't they added Nate Freiman to the A's roster yet? This is the second update he should have been added and yet he is still missing. If he is missing there are probably others.
