Overall, I'm really happy with this game. I'm seeing quite a bit of hit variety and many gap shots for extra bases.
And with the wider timing window and slower pitch speeds, I can actually tell if it's a breaking ball or not. That's helped a lot (I'm on pitch speed of 2 - yes, I'm pathetic, but this is right up my alley).

The one thing I love about The Show is how I can hit HR's without the power button. In fact, I've hit a half-dozen home-runs and none have come from using it.
I may have to turn power down a smidge as even Infante is hitting them out (he has 2 in 3 games within the ALDS - very small sample though).
But I'd rather have a bit too much than not enough.

I still can't get over how good the game looks visually. Very crisp and eerily realistic.

I'm glad I picked this up. I've only played 3 games thus far, but I had a lot of fun in those 3 tilts.
I had no stuttering for the first 2, but in the 3rd it was pretty bad. In some at-bats, I'd see the stutter 3 or 4 times. Very distracting, but hopefully it gets patched soon.
Tomorrow I try offline co-op with my oldest son. Looking forward to it.

1) More responsive controls everywhere. Not just swinging, but even the pre-pitch nuances when tapping X are more responsive. My baserunners are changing stride more quickly when I advance or retreat them. I can also now dive at balls hit down the line (in fair territory, mind you ). Even skipping through things is better and load times are much improved. But definitely with swinging... I'm upping the pitch speed to 9 or 10 this year. It is so refreshing!

2) Turning off the on-screen displays (except for the score bug) feels so great. It feels so great, I'm doing classic pitching this year. No meters or visuals whatsoever. I wish there was a way to almost "permanently" keep the score bug up on the screen even with a ball in play. Otherwise, it feels so authentic!

Thanks, boys! The Vita version is unfortunately being separated more from the PS3 version this year, but I'll have to deal with it if I want to take my franchise on the road.
Oh, and I mentioned responsive controls? How about the bunting this year!

Not only can you see the ball come in all the way with the transparent bat, but you can actually pull it back this year. It's incredibly responsive.

Good moves all around, SCEA!

Yes...I meant in previous versions...
They definitely worked on it this year.
I didn't get to really check it out much yet.

So I started a new player in RTTS. Alright, this exciting, can't wait to see the new features.

I get into a game, I'm about to bat. The camera is over head the field. It begins to switch to my player when suddenly

SSSSSWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSHHHHHH

SHHHHHVVVVVOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHSSSSSSSHHHHHHSVV VVSHHHHH

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHVVV VVVVRRRRRMMMMMMMMSSSSSSHHHHHHHHH

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.

I can't handle it.
I can't handle it.

I can't handle this noise.

Please god tell me there is an alternate way to get rid of this noise besides turning down the special effects volume. I can achieve that, but then I lose the crack of the bat. The crack of the bat, man. The most precious noise in baseball, gone.

I have to be honest, this noise, how did it make it into the final game? I couldn't last one game without being annoyed by it. How did a team of developers and testers not want to jump off a bridge after hearing WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHH for the 1000th time?

I thought the purpose of these new camera angles was immersion?
How is the sound of a jet breaking the sound barrier immersive?

I'm sorry, but a battle of alien races for control of the universe happening over my head breaks immersion. Playing baseball in a wind tunnel breaks immersion. The sound of a 17 foot tall giant blowing on soup to cool it so that it does not burn his giant tongue breaks immersion.

I'm not one to complain about things. I can put up with a lot, I can suspend disbelief when necessary, I have tolerance for many things.

I love the new features of this game, but this flying helicopter that races around the field and lands on my player is painful. Bad call SD Studio, really bad call.

On default setting on veteran mode, I'm averaging about 8 runs on 16 hits(played 4 games so far).

CPU averaging about 3 runs on 9 hits(so that seems about right).

Should I lower my contact on veteran, or just increase batting difficulty to all star?

That's a big disparity. I would increase difficulty first...use sliders for minor tweaks

I don't want to take the time to research it myself so I'd like to ask White Sox fans if your defense SUCKS because we have 3 errors in only 5 innings so far.

I used your team to get a look at the throw backs and took them to Kansas City so I could see their throw backs

Created an account just for this reason. I love MLB The Show and I have bought it many years, primarily for RTTS.

I was very excited to start my new RTTS player today but this noise is an absolute dealbreaker for me.

It blows my mind that anyone at SCEA thought it was a good idea; it's like chinese water torture.

Please please please please tell me that there is some way to turn this off without turning off the sounds of the baseball game or to fix it with a patch in the future.

Right now it's making what used to be my favorite video game completely unplayable and I am crushed.

Had a weird experience happen a few times today where i would manually be controlling my fielder and then all the sudden he would stop in place, or start to run the other direction away from fly ball or grounder?!? Very disruptive. Happened 3 times in 2 games...cost me runs. Didnt happen yesterday, not sure whats up? Didn't do anything out of ordinary (press L2, etc). Anyone else ever experience this?

Still discouraged with not drawing walks. It has always frustrated me in the past with The Show series. If you mess with pitcher accuracy then it seems they just nibble corners, etc. wish i was a better hitter but i know i wont improve to get more than 2-3 a game, if im lucky. Hopefully i can find a solution, ill keep trying.

My latest game:

DBacks: 8 runs,15 hits
Reds: 4 runs,9 hits(this 9 hits thing seems to be real consistent.3 of my first 5 games the CPU got exactly 9 hits)

Reds struck out 5 times
DBacks struck out 4 times

Reds with 2HR
DBacks with 1HR

84% of DBacks pitches were strikes
76% of Reds pitches were strikes(I have CPU strike frequency at 2 and it doesn't help much)

Guess I'll be trying all star batting in my next game and see how things end up. Worst scenario is that I just increase my hitting sliders on all star.

Does increasing pitching difficulty(from veteran to all star) improve amount that CPU hits? Cause only change in my throwing I want is amount of strikes I throw. I wanna throw less strikes, but amount of runs/hits CPU gets is already fine. I'm using analog pitching. Maybe switching to pulse pitching would be better?

Just finished my first game as the Royals vs the Rays. Pretty exciting game, but it wasn't pretty defensively on either side.

Shields vs Price
Coming out of the gate both Shields and Price were dominating on the mound.

5th inning came along and poor defense came around from both sides. A Longoria error began the scoring for me and I went up 3-0 by the end of the 5th. Should've been a 5-4-3 DP to end the inning but instead he overthrew the 2b by a good 4 feet.

Top of the 6th Desmond Jennings hit an opposite field HR to make it 3-1.

Next inning, I believe the top of the 7th, was when the Rays really got to me.
Shields pitch count was getting up there, but my defense didn't do him any favors. A standard 6-4-3 DP would've gotten me out of a 1st and 3rd jam, but Hosmer couldn't scoop the throw from Giavotella out of the dirt. Runner scores to make it 3-2. Later in the inning line drive hit to left was misplayed by Gordon (my fault) and the ball was able to get to the wall and give the Rays a 4-3 lead.

In the 8th I was able to get runners on vs the pen and I got one in to tie it 4-4. The winning run was a Moustakas RBI ground into dp.

I could definitely see a noticeable difference between Price and the arms in the pen.
No HR's for me.

This game breathes new air compared to 12 when played, though not so much when watched (for example, I was watching gameplay videos before I got it, and I didn't really see the difference, but I definitely feel it).
I can confirm that it is indeed a strikeout if you swing lol.

And yeah, that's why we were constantly saying you have to play it to understand how differently it plays. Videos don't do the gameplay justice, at all.

I have been playing the show since '10, and have just begun playing '13.

I don't know if its me, but I am having an unusually difficult time picking up the ball during day games. Not batting, but from the defensive aspect.

Once the ball is hit, its during the transition from pitching (pitching default camera - analog) to the defense - infielders mostly. I don't if it is my imagination or not, but there seems to be a split second flash when transitioning from pitching that confuses me and I end up totally misjudging the play...one time, this is embarassing to say, I thought it was a fly ball to the LF when it was actually a ground ball to 3rd.

I don't think its the game at all.....I think I am just having problems with the brightness during day games this year. I was in exhibition mode Cardinals vs Nationals - day (obviously).

I don't have these problems with '12. Well, except picking the ball up (as a batter) in Cleveland during the day until the shadows covers the mound.....

Is there a way to adjust the brightness? If so, which setting would I change? To me, I would not know the difference between gamma, anti-alising???...xrays....I probably adjust the wrong setting and end up making more stupid plays..

Thanks.

Exact thing happened to me in my very first game the other day. Two ground balls in the same inning. One I was charging in with Plouffe and all of a sudden he just stopped. It felt like he was running into a force field and couldn't move. Another was a ground ball to first and Morneau vered off in a different direction resulting in the ball rolling past him. Extremely weird, but I haven't seen it since.

Hitting in general is much easier and more varied which is a pleasant surprise for me. Last year I couldn't hit anything and eventually gave up on the game altogether. I'm only a couple games in but I've averaged 7 or 8 hits a game.

# 237 Cavicchi @ 03/07/13 08:17 AM
The thing I've noticed in Beginner mode is how often CPU batters will chase. I love striking out batters and this year my dream has come true

I've played 3 Play Now games with default sliders in Beginner mode and almost had a no-hitter. I had a no-hitter into the 9th inning against the Tigers. Every time I had to face Miguel Cabrera, my hand started to shake ;-)

I usually buy both baseball games every year, and this is the first year I am buying just one, The Show 13!

In addition, the availability of this game being a download makes it all that much sweeter.

So I am messing around with season mode as I wait to go on vacation, a patch (fix the K #'s) and the OS rosters before I start my franchise.

I played the first game of the season, Rangers at Astros. I figured I would flip a coin every game to decide who to be and I ended up with the Astros. 3-0 Rangers after the top of the first after a couple bloops and a Berkman blast against his former team.

Darvish is just lighting me up for three innings, but then comes the 4th, single, RBI double, bloop single, opposite field 3 run homer on his next 5 or 6 picthes and I'm up 4-3.

I don't get another hit off of Darvish until the 7th inning, he finishes the inning and I am down 9-4.

I ended up losing 10-4 and I have to say, the Astros are just freakin' terrible!!! Yet I loved that the game played out about like it should. It was hard, but it seemed had I gotten a few more breaks (close 3-2 counts where I didn't get the K, instead walked the guy, a couple iffy defensive plays etc.) I may have been able to win.

If I could just figure out how to be more patient and draw some walks this game would be the best ever. A damn shame that they changed their stated philosiphy from the past that they never take anything out of the game options-wise (guess pitch). Still, I am loving this game and will figure something out to generate walks.

Add me to the list on this one. The daylight games are brilliantly lit, and look awesome, especially with that mid-day glare and overall look to the game.... However, picking up the ball on a grounder, especially down the first or third base line, is impossible. I just wait for the umpire's call, and send the outfielder after it...

That being said, I still love the new look and the polish on the game. Once again, I feel like they made the player/field size ratio a bit closer to real life, and with the broadcast cam, it feels like the players take up the correct amount of space with regards to the outfield.

Anyone notice that the fly balls in the outfield are a lot higher than they used to be? Whereas '12 seemed like any fly ball had the same trajectory, I saw Pujols just miss one, and the ball really hung up there like a high pop fly would. Well done.

I also noticed that on a pop up to my pitcher, my third baseman ran right through the pitcher, like he was not even there. Also, as mentioned before, I saw David Ortiz slide right through Robbie Cano breaking up a double play.

I cannot understand, and maybe someone can shed some light on this for me, again... Why we have to make sure the new statues at Oriole Park are in the exact spot, why the color of the outfield fence in Philly has to be the correct shade, and why the shadows at Candlestick have to follow the azimuth of the sun's path on the West Coast, but we still accept players magically morphing through one another?

When the design team is in the big meeting deciding who is going to work on what for the upcoming game, and the lead designer says, "Okay, who wants to tackle collision detection this year, with a realistic and fresh approach?", I just picture guys looking around the room and whistling....

So please, someone come up with a plausible and acceptable answer for me, and tell me why after six years, and with the game being "So real, it' unreal", we still have a very unrealistic representation of spatial awareness and magical teleportation with no regards to physical matter.

Bueller? Anyone?.... Anyone??

That was funny. A great morning read.

I have never been someone to care much about clipping and lack of collision detection but at this point in the series I'm starting to care.

The folks that work on this game seem very passionate about it and must be awfully proud of it. My wild guess would be that it can't be fixed or they would have done it?

Either way, I'd love to know what the challenges are and why it can't be implemented.
