NBA Live 13 News Post

NBA Live 13 has been canned, kicked to the curb, canceled, put out to pasture. However you want to put it, NBA Live 13 is no more.

Below is a statement from EA Sports Executive Vice President, Andrew Wilson.

Quote:
After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective.

When we started the process of bringing back NBA LIVE, we knew it was going to be a long journey. We started by moving the game to a new studio. We brought in some of the best new technology that has helped fuel innovation in our other games. We launched an even deeper level of engagement with our community to gather more feedback directly from fans. And we built a whole new development team to bring it all to life. We felt like we were on the right path.

We also made a commitment to deliver a high quality experience — this is what our fans expect and what we demand of ourselves at EA SPORTS. But making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. This decision puts us on the right track for success well into the future in a rapidly changing industry.

I'm disappointed that we have not yet met our high expectations with NBA LIVE, but I remain motivated about where we're going. We're committed to delivering new innovation in online, and our progress in the visual presentation of the game continues to take big strides. We also know that a great game starts with great gameplay, and this remains a huge priority for us.

This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans. I hope you'll agree when you're able to play the game next year.

Andrew Wilson
Executive Vice President, EA SPORTS

Absolutely. There is just no reason left to make excuses. It is indeed ridiculous and not understandable anymore...

So many fanboys in this thread. How is this a good thing like alot of you are making it out to be ? Your laughing like this is ok. This is bad for the consumer we now have less options. And please stop with this EA monopolized the NFL license thing, the NFL has gone exclusive in pretty much everything they do now. That was their doing. And how you forget 2K went exclusive on the 360 for baseball games and that game was utter trash and is now finished. I love 2K just as much as the next person but im really disappointed to hear this news.

The biggest shame in this is that they hold rights to ESPN, which I would love to be in 2ks possession. Maybe someday. Till then ESPN NBA authenticity is still lost in incompetence.

I don't believe Live will come out on this gen. They might as well scrap the engine since they can't even work with it.

If there is any hope it would be a new engine on the new consoles. But we saw how that worked out the last time.

Yet another sad day for sports gaming.

They are not only loosing money on the nba license, but music licensing, shoe brand licensing, espn licensing etc. I'm curious to know how much exactly the nba live franchise has cost them this gen.

The growth of that engine cant really grow without its original crew members behind it.....it doesent make sense to have a completely different team work on a project they did not create

There's more to it than just a simple "why cant they build of 2k10".....

buisness is buisness at the end of the day

Has nothing to do with easy and everything to do with stubbornness. When EA lost to 2k10 with Live 10, they felt they had to change the game and make an entire new game with Elite. They thought selling a new physics engine and controls would be enough to overtake 2k but it wasnt. They still have that belief and thats why they wont take a step back and build off of 10. EA has been quoted as saying they took a year to look at Elite and see what was usable...completely ignoring Live 10. Also completely ignoring that many people preferred Live 10 to 2k10.

We do know that EA owns the code to 10 so thats not a question.

Disappointment is a understatement of how I feel right now....sad, sad and sad!

I am not disappointed at all. If EA was going to be on the right track to become competitive again and announcing a cancelation of this game now, I would have been disappointed. But they are actually lightyears away from becoming dangerous to 2K and their series. There just hasn't been any competition between the two companies because EA keeps failing miserably. Therefore there is no reason to mourn after this cancelation...

Shots Fired!!!! Live 13 DOA
I would have checked that game out for $20 too...
If it's not too soon, 2k should try to talk to some of live's face scan artists

Not as much if they released a game though. The only thing they've lost right now is the fee they paid for the NBA license this year and the man hours for people who worked on the game.

Probably instead of rebuilding, take the Live 10 Engine and Improve on that. Rebuilding is possibly worse then using the Elite engine.... USE THE Live 10 Engine!! Closest thing to NBA 2K13 from EA... (Since it was Mike Wang-produced.)

All the articled need to say was " 2K13 demo Dropped and we realized that we had no chance so we cancelled this years game " that's what really happened.

The real crime here is that they hold ESPN's rights and they haven't managed to put out a game in years.

Not surprised one bit. Atleast now there wont be anymore false hope spreading around.

I'm laughing because its "chickens coming home to roost" with EA. Since Live 06, they got away with selling a subpar game (with the exception of 10) and sold a ton of games until consumers had enough and bought the other game. EA's failure doesnt stop another company from potentially creating a game to compete with 2k and it doesnt stop EA from trying to create a game that will compete with 2k.

I find it funny watching a billion dollar corporation **** the bed the past 3 yrs.

This is sad.

However, I was worried about this game several months ago when the developers talked about how they had spent all that time going through Elite's coding and were still operating under a 1-year development cycle.

As a sports gamer I want multiple choices for every sport I play but going forward, it really doesn't look like that is going to happen. It's either play Game A or nothing.

I was going to say something along those lines.

He(wang) is not 2k, but in a way, dude sorta is...2k9 and 2k10 weren't horrible but they weren't 2k games...ya know? They didn't feel authentic as 11-13 do.

ESPN should void the contract with EA as soon as possible (of course talking about the basketball series). I'm sure they will do this sooner or later...

Pretty sure ESPN does not care as long they keep paying them. This is ESPN. Quality doesn't mean anything to them. The bottomline does.

Why would they do that? ESPN is affiliated with the two highest selling sports games, Madden and Fifa. That would be dumb on ESPN's part.
