NBA Live 13 News Post

NBA Live 13 has been canned, kicked to the curb, canceled, put out to pasture. However you want to put it, NBA Live 13 is no more.

Below is a statement from EA Sports Executive Vice President, Andrew Wilson.

Quote:
After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective.

When we started the process of bringing back NBA LIVE, we knew it was going to be a long journey. We started by moving the game to a new studio. We brought in some of the best new technology that has helped fuel innovation in our other games. We launched an even deeper level of engagement with our community to gather more feedback directly from fans. And we built a whole new development team to bring it all to life. We felt like we were on the right path.

We also made a commitment to deliver a high quality experience — this is what our fans expect and what we demand of ourselves at EA SPORTS. But making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. This decision puts us on the right track for success well into the future in a rapidly changing industry.

I'm disappointed that we have not yet met our high expectations with NBA LIVE, but I remain motivated about where we're going. We're committed to delivering new innovation in online, and our progress in the visual presentation of the game continues to take big strides. We also know that a great game starts with great gameplay, and this remains a huge priority for us.

This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans. I hope you'll agree when you're able to play the game next year.

Andrew Wilson
Executive Vice President, EA SPORTS

A major screw up all around from the decision making process.
I was thinking about that, too. My guess is that EA wants to leverage the tech that is shared between their sports franchises (i.e. physics) and they probably can't do that with Live 10's code base. That would partially explain why Elite turned out so bad. They had to rebuild the core of the game and they couldn't get it to look right. It gets scrapped and a whole new dev team has to pick up that flawed base, figure out what they have, and fix it. It still is not up to snuff and now we have another cancellation.

It's over for the franchise, just give up. 2k didn't have to buy an exclusive license, just destroy the competition with a better product.

At this rate there might not be another Live game until the launch of the PS4 and and new Xbox.
Out of curiosity, when are the next generations set to launch? EA working toward the next generation exclusively doesn't seem so terrible on the surface.

If that happened, then Madden would probably suffer the same fate as Live.

I see this as karma for monopolizing NFL license. Well done EA.
*Slow clap*

I just ask myself one simple question: Do the guys at EA actually know what they're doing? Seems like they keep heading into the wrong direction without knowing it until somebody wakes them up! It's more than just embarrassing or a bad joke - it's a shame. Can't believe we're talking about the biggest, wealthiest company in video game business...

seriously all the people who rag on 2k13 sucking, just look at this. This isnt like madden where there is a forced situation to produce just one product and you either buy it or miss out on football. 2k13, for whatever realism it lacks, is still the best game on the market, and its not because other companies arent trying...its because they are failing to meet the same level of gameplay that 2k is releasing....

in this statement EA pretty much says that, they had the graphics gonig, they definetly had the edge in online play...but they feel their gameplay is flawed compared to the competetiion...enough so that they dont even want to release their product for the initial discounted $20...

Elite was cancelled for pretty the same reason, it hyped its game, felt it had the graphics going, the online going, felt the gameplay was alright...then 2k11 released its demo near the same time elite did...and wham....elite's gameplay was eclipsed.

To me this is more of an indication to how well 2k13 truly has come out, as opposed to EA sucking. Im fairly sure EA tried, hell they had even tempered everyones expectations before hand. I, as well as many others were still considering to buy live just for the hell of it, so its not like ea wouldnt have made money. But i dont think its a coincidence that they announced their cancellation of live the week the 2k13 demo was released....

Like i said, this isnt like madden where you are forced to pay for a mediocre product because its the only one out there (2k12 i feel was that), 2k13 is exceptional enough that it was able to force live back to its rebuilding stage...and that is a huge compliment to its (2k13) development

just give 2k the nba rights...n naybe they will send them free copies or something...

Hopefully their license with the NFL will expire soon so 2K can make a proper NFL game!

Everyone happy? Why with 1 game on the market 2k can put out trash and almost make sure you guy it oh wait didn't that happen to Madden? We need competition to keep these devs and company in check other than that will get the same watered down game like that's what happen to Madden and to be honest don't think it can't happen to 2k.I want more than 1 game hell let's get NBA Shootout back out there we need this competition we don't want another monopoly.

Exactly.
Fanboy stuff aside, one must be able to see what a state we're in when several development teams are struggling to put out decent games in their area.

We've now been reduced to ONE NBA game and ZERO College Basketball games. Several years ago we had three NBA games and two NCAA games.

Add in no competition in football and baseball games (hell, 360 users won't even have a baseball game next year) and we are in trouble as sports gamers.
