NBA Live 13 News Post

NBA Live 13 has been canned, kicked to the curb, canceled, put out to pasture. However you want to put it, NBA Live 13 is no more.

Below is a statement from EA Sports Executive Vice President, Andrew Wilson.

Quote:
After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective.

When we started the process of bringing back NBA LIVE, we knew it was going to be a long journey. We started by moving the game to a new studio. We brought in some of the best new technology that has helped fuel innovation in our other games. We launched an even deeper level of engagement with our community to gather more feedback directly from fans. And we built a whole new development team to bring it all to life. We felt like we were on the right path.

We also made a commitment to deliver a high quality experience — this is what our fans expect and what we demand of ourselves at EA SPORTS. But making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. This decision puts us on the right track for success well into the future in a rapidly changing industry.

I'm disappointed that we have not yet met our high expectations with NBA LIVE, but I remain motivated about where we're going. We're committed to delivering new innovation in online, and our progress in the visual presentation of the game continues to take big strides. We also know that a great game starts with great gameplay, and this remains a huge priority for us.

This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans. I hope you'll agree when you're able to play the game next year.

Andrew Wilson
Executive Vice President, EA SPORTS

It doesn't sell well. I'd buy College Hoops every year if thats where MyPlayer mode could begin. Play the McDonalds All-American game, then get recruited by colleges. Then play games and after season decide to stay in college or go pro. Words cant describe how awesome it would be.

damn, Really disappointed its Gone. This is three straight years. Really frustrating they can't get it right, I'm sure they are too. Lets hope for next gen. The next live that comes out will be probably ok, but it can't catch up this gen, so lets hope for next gen. Live has been nonexistent this gen and its pretty sad.

People laughing about this? To me, it is a sad day for sports gamers.

We've now been reduced to ONE NBA game and ZERO College Basketball games. Several years ago we had three NBA games and two NCAA games.

Add in no competition in football and baseball games (hell, 360 users won't even have a baseball game next year) and we are in trouble as sports gamers.

"Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October"

This is how interpret that statement.

I hope another developer tries to get in on a nba sim style game for the next gen systems. As for ea they cant keep trying to rehash a game with those goofy looking player models and robotic animations.

Please EA, please...don't try to release another basketball game until the new systems...if even then.

"After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective."

The folks at EA need to give themselves a bit of perspective. Instead of being the developers of a basketball video game, they have (for the past 3 years) done damage control for a series that has lost its soul. Your assumption that we need "perspective" is entirely condescending.

Quit blaming the fans. For every reason you mention you won't be delivering your game, "from/for the fans" is attached to it. Quit patronizing the consumer with your talks of superior development skills but you just can't nail it down "for the fans."

Are we to believe that you guys got together the last few days and said, "Yikes, October is just a couple weeks away...and we're not ready! better pull the plug." This game wasn't ready months ago. If you "demand" anything of yourselves, demand honesty.

Again, quit blaming "the fans." Quit spinning EA's inability to put out a video game as this valiant effort for "our fans." The bottom line is that EA believes development of NBA Live 13 is entirely not ready, and to release it now would do more damage to EA and this franchise than if they were to yet again cancel it and ask "the fans" to look forward to next year where the game will be great.

Man, I was soooooooo looking forward to buying this game too... Oh we'll, guess I can use that 20 bucks to buy Live '10 and play it just as much as I'm gonna play '13.....

# 53 sportjames23 @ 09/27/12 04:41 PM
Wow. Just...wow.

Man, EA, if you can't put out a basketball game in, what, 4 years, it's time to get out of the game.

Just step away. Now. Forever.

Sad but expected. See you on next gen NBA Live (hopefully).

2k needs to get on that football license and start making nfl games.

# 56 Gramps91 @ 09/27/12 04:43 PM
Why didn't they just freakin build off Live 10? I'll never understand it. Oh well, still looking extremely forward to Tuesday.

Still don't understand what they were thinking.

Not surprised......

At this rate there might not be another Live game until the launch of the PS4 and and new Xbox.

# 58 GruffyMcGuiness @ 09/27/12 04:44 PM
Hmm. I was going to get it because it was going to be $20. Not gonna get 2k or Live next year for $60.

All the blame falls on Hard8Times fellas.

With one upload he demolished EA Basketball.

A major screw up all around from the decision making process.
exactly, i agree. I remember after E3 ea was like "well we didnt actually have 2 years of development, it was more like half a year" and in my head im thinking....why? You had all this time, and instead of using it to get a game ready, you decided you could just fire your entire dev. team, move into a new location, get new tech, and churn out a brand new game based on a brand new system and have it up and running (much less competing) with a constant sports game of the year contender? That is terrible management.

I know you dont want to pay tons of money for a product you wont be releasing for a few years, but the very least you could have picked out a head designer two years ago, and had him play around with the concept and past work and get a blueprint set up for the development cycle. Way to suck...
