NBA Live 13 News Post

NBA Live 13 has been canned, kicked to the curb, canceled, put out to pasture. However you want to put it, NBA Live 13 is no more.

Below is a statement from EA Sports Executive Vice President, Andrew Wilson.

Quote:
After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective.

When we started the process of bringing back NBA LIVE, we knew it was going to be a long journey. We started by moving the game to a new studio. We brought in some of the best new technology that has helped fuel innovation in our other games. We launched an even deeper level of engagement with our community to gather more feedback directly from fans. And we built a whole new development team to bring it all to life. We felt like we were on the right path.

We also made a commitment to deliver a high quality experience — this is what our fans expect and what we demand of ourselves at EA SPORTS. But making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. This decision puts us on the right track for success well into the future in a rapidly changing industry.

I'm disappointed that we have not yet met our high expectations with NBA LIVE, but I remain motivated about where we're going. We're committed to delivering new innovation in online, and our progress in the visual presentation of the game continues to take big strides. We also know that a great game starts with great gameplay, and this remains a huge priority for us.

This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans. I hope you'll agree when you're able to play the game next year.

Andrew Wilson
Executive Vice President, EA SPORTS

Well maybe next year it will be NBA Jam 2013 powered by ESPN!

I sincerely doubt they EAS would not fight them going to a competitor. ESPN isn't only on live, I'm pretty sure its carried on other lackluster titles that eas has to offer as well. If they were to try to break the clause, I'm pretty sure eas would try to break it off with fifa. And Fifa is too much of a cash cow.

Say no to drugs.

I'm reading that in this thread and wondering that too. Are people forgetting that eas produced this game along with the engine? LOL.

I have never even heard of them using another company's engine to produce a game

I wonder how much money EA had to pay ESPN and the NBA for failing to put a product out? I know that when the NBA makes a deal with EA/2K they have a clause about HAVING to make a certain release date or face a fine. I bet missing the entire year is in there too. I wonder if ESPN has anything similar in their contract with EA.

Just like the Live 13 team had to try to use the Elite engine, they couldve used that time to learn the Live 10 engine and built from there.

It was an indefensible decision by EA to use Elite as the foundation for 13 and the main reason why this game wasnt released.
lol EA has done and made "ridiculous" decisions on alot of their product since 1995 imo...but again this is just my opinion.

They had no choice but to move forward. Either you move forward or get left behind. Unfortunately in this case they werent able to MOVE at "tall"(english accent)....

EA used a successful NHL development team to push the their NBA franchise, would you call that smart or ridiculous?................

Not saying that, just saying super unlikely. Take a little loss such as nba live(expected annual sales anywhere between 1-3mil) compared to the giant fifa..I think they'll take that..not kindly, but its something they'll live with.

Someone needs to be fired though. I don't like people losing their jobs but someone needs to be fiered, and they need to bring in a fresh breathe of sim air lol. Someone who knows what they are doing. I think they bbrought in the nhl guy for elite 11 lol..not smart.

Maybe some young college kid who's been working for them and is ready for the next thing idk. just something

That's one example. Maybe there's even a clause that allows ESPN to void its contract with EA's NBA Live brand in case of unfulfilled conditions...

Save your money EA and put all of that effort into making a good Madden game.

Add in no competition in football and baseball games (hell, 360 users won't even have a baseball game next year) and we are in trouble as sports gamers.
Competition for the sake of competition doesn't benefit anyone...at all...especially when one company has proven they can put out quality games without it, and one to this day still can't...

It's all about quality...people don't laugh at things worth caring about..

I'm thinking they have lost more than 100million. We should write to Kotaku or something to do an investigative piece on how much they lost, how much espn has lost, how much they had to pay for license music to the game, game development cost, etc.

Imagine working crunch time for thsi game and not getting OT then finally realizing its canceled. Man, if I'm an eas employee, I'm livid right now!

Seems like nobody there really got a clue how to become competitive again. That's almost eerie...

"reverse"

Where are people getting that EA "CAN" use or "DOES" have the rights to Live 10 codes?.............lol

We know nothing. All we can do is speculate and assume. We will never know what happened with the nba live10 specs to the game. Maybe there was a under the table agreement to all parties that once were done, were done.

buisness runs deep. Very very deep.....its never a simple answer, because we will never HAVE all the answers...period

If your one of the EA Sports employees who worked on Live you shouldn't be livid. You should be embarrassed with what you produced and worried about getting canned along with the game.

Why? The reason it's cancelled is because THEY didn't get the job done. Do you think they would want to put a product only for it to fail? If anything, they are either breathing a sigh of relief OR worried about keeping their jobs...
