NBA Live 13 News Post

NBA Live 13 has been canned, kicked to the curb, canceled, put out to pasture. However you want to put it, NBA Live 13 is no more.

Below is a statement from EA Sports Executive Vice President, Andrew Wilson.

Quote:
After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective.

When we started the process of bringing back NBA LIVE, we knew it was going to be a long journey. We started by moving the game to a new studio. We brought in some of the best new technology that has helped fuel innovation in our other games. We launched an even deeper level of engagement with our community to gather more feedback directly from fans. And we built a whole new development team to bring it all to life. We felt like we were on the right path.

We also made a commitment to deliver a high quality experience — this is what our fans expect and what we demand of ourselves at EA SPORTS. But making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. This decision puts us on the right track for success well into the future in a rapidly changing industry.

I'm disappointed that we have not yet met our high expectations with NBA LIVE, but I remain motivated about where we're going. We're committed to delivering new innovation in online, and our progress in the visual presentation of the game continues to take big strides. We also know that a great game starts with great gameplay, and this remains a huge priority for us.

This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans. I hope you'll agree when you're able to play the game next year.

Andrew Wilson
Executive Vice President, EA SPORTS

Your point about no direction and experience is 100% valid.
Not on one year development they can't. Multiple year development, yeah.

Imo, they should release live 13 but retitle it and put it up for freedownload so they can get user input. Yeah, they'll have to put up with flame and troll comments, but its worth it to hear what needs work. Then again, they know what needs work, its pretty much evident in the videos.

EA's a rich company. But maybe the developers have to cope with a relatively small budget anyway? I have no idea why they failed again. This game just looks absolutely awkward and would play even worse - that's why I mentioned the budget aspect. How come they couldn't present anything better than this? I just don't get it...

Ugh. What a shame. Looks like I won't be purchasing a basketball game this year.

I wish EA all the best. Hopefully they come back strong next year and actually release a game.

Nah, you can quietly just play NBA Baller Beats..

in this statement EA pretty much says that, they had the graphics gonig, they definetly had the edge in online play...but they feel their gameplay is flawed compared to the competetiion...enough so that they dont even want to release their product for the initial discounted $20...

Elite was cancelled for pretty the same reason, it hyped its game, felt it had the graphics going, the online going, felt the gameplay was alright...then 2k11 released its demo near the same time elite did...and wham....elite's gameplay was eclipsed.

To me this is more of an indication to how well 2k13 truly has come out, as opposed to EA sucking. Im fairly sure EA tried, hell they had even tempered everyones expectations before hand. I, as well as many others were still considering to buy live just for the hell of it, so its not like ea wouldnt have made money. But i dont think its a coincidence that they announced their cancellation of live the week the 2k13 demo was released....

Like i said, this isnt like madden where you are forced to pay for a mediocre product because its the only one out there (2k12 i feel was that), 2k13 is exceptional enough that it was able to force live back to its rebuilding stage...and that is a huge compliment to its (2k13) development

No, our nostrils simply work and we could smell this disaster for what it is; a pile of crap.

It's a sad day for basketball fans, and another blow to this generation of option-less sports genres. That said, the sugar-coating and self-convincing that was going on wasn't any better. This was a clear catastrophe from the beginning.

you both relay my thoughts and feelings toward the subject

Someone is definitely putting his head above the parapet. I will quote him again next year...

When do you know for sure that a game is bad? When the score bug is the nicest thing you spot on the screen...

They should just forget about NBA, honestly whats the likelihood they could beat 2k?

Make a college game and get atleast a little bit of revenue from the people who have been waiting for another one of those.

Pathetic....EA won't even let you type Canceled or Update on the official NBA live 13 forum. EA if your listening...give us another roster for NBA live 10, it's the least you could do!

EA's tenacity reminds me of Al Bundy's credo: "A Bundy never wins, but a Bundy never quits"...

Doesn't surprise me one bit.
