NBA Live 13 News Post

NBA Live 13 has been canned, kicked to the curb, canceled, put out to pasture. However you want to put it, NBA Live 13 is no more.

Below is a statement from EA Sports Executive Vice President, Andrew Wilson.

Quote:
After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective.

When we started the process of bringing back NBA LIVE, we knew it was going to be a long journey. We started by moving the game to a new studio. We brought in some of the best new technology that has helped fuel innovation in our other games. We launched an even deeper level of engagement with our community to gather more feedback directly from fans. And we built a whole new development team to bring it all to life. We felt like we were on the right path.

We also made a commitment to deliver a high quality experience — this is what our fans expect and what we demand of ourselves at EA SPORTS. But making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. This decision puts us on the right track for success well into the future in a rapidly changing industry.

I'm disappointed that we have not yet met our high expectations with NBA LIVE, but I remain motivated about where we're going. We're committed to delivering new innovation in online, and our progress in the visual presentation of the game continues to take big strides. We also know that a great game starts with great gameplay, and this remains a huge priority for us.

This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans. I hope you'll agree when you're able to play the game next year.

Andrew Wilson
Executive Vice President, EA SPORTS

Surely this is the end? There is absolutely no creditably left with the franchise
EA can repeat this exact process for the next three years and people will still buy it. Not because it's great, but because its different.

EA better venture to the College Basketball fan base. Then they would not have to go head to head vs 2k in NBA. I think that's their only hope for a game with a basketball and a hoop.

I don't see how they lose money by spending an extra year to develop a game unless they decide to start from scratch again. To be honest I think this is what the sports genre needs, a game that is developed for multiple years instead of releasing a product every year just to have something to sell.
Programming and animating costs money, and they still need to pay salaries.

But still, back to the main topic...

Wow, didn't expect that to happen. *cough*sarcasm*cough*

Apparently we wont.

Ea Should Just Make A WNBA Game

My fear is that old saying" if you can't beat them buy them". EA has deep pockets and that would be one way to eliminate the competition.

EA Sports love to spend money. It is not cheap getting a license from NBA and from the players.
Anyway, I hate EA. They are responsible for destroying gaming nowadays. Burn in hell, bunch of mercenaries.

Thats the thing that is sooo odd about this whole fiasco. Really these other games have no real competition (PES Aside for Fifa yet they are very very good games. Madden is a different story but thats been an issue for a while. Why is it that Live has gotten the short end of the stick? Is it the dev teams? Is it the financing? Something doesnt add up here

Its sad that we went from around 10 basketball games to 1 in under like 5 years. How did that happen?

Man I loved NBA Live 10.
Thank you EA for messing this one up worse than anyone ever thought possible. These guys are just horrible. Cancel an NBA game TWICE in 3 years right at release time.

NBA Live has reached the point where it doesn't deserve a Forum on OS. This should be moved to Other Basketball Games.

Disgraceful and I won't purchase any games for the rest of my lifetime that has EA on the cover.

I hope I don't get banned for saying this but EA I feel like this is for taking the NFL license. Only good will come to you when you stop being greedy and let 2K be able to make a football game.

You can't really miss something that you never had

Theres no way in hell anyone could justify to me why they would pay more than 5 bucks for an NBA Live game after what 2k has put out for the last 3 years. All wishful thinking about hypothetical stuff and overlooking the other terrible aspects of a game, while 2k just sits on the throne. You know, sorta how it used to be back in the day with Live.

This is too bad for EA Sports...

They must be just shaking their heads in frustration...I would cut them some slack but this is the 2nd time in a couple years they have cancelled a release...business-wise, NOT a smart decision IMO, because they seem to be wasting $$ on something they knew was flawed/broken.

First, they were going to release it mid-way through the season.
Secondly, they were going to make it a "digital download" for well-under the competition price.
Now, they cancel another NBA title.

EA knows how far & above 2K has grown since 2K10 and they're only getting better...competition is what drives games to be better every year. If there's no competition, we're going to have another Madden-case....and we all know how that's going. Heck, we still have people playing NFL2K, because of no competition.

They should have at least given it a shot...

The ol' "start working for next year" statement is bogus...very, very disappointing EA.

Amen. Totally on board with them making a college game again, especially if it has the production value that 10 had...

NBA is to EA what MLB is to 2K.

Why? Because 2K had great success in NHL and MLB?

2K is great at making basketball games and was good at football games like 5 years ago.

Do you really care where I sent this from?
