NBA Live 13 News Post

NBA Live 13 has been canned, kicked to the curb, canceled, put out to pasture. However you want to put it, NBA Live 13 is no more.

Below is a statement from EA Sports Executive Vice President, Andrew Wilson.

Quote:
After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective.

When we started the process of bringing back NBA LIVE, we knew it was going to be a long journey. We started by moving the game to a new studio. We brought in some of the best new technology that has helped fuel innovation in our other games. We launched an even deeper level of engagement with our community to gather more feedback directly from fans. And we built a whole new development team to bring it all to life. We felt like we were on the right path.

We also made a commitment to deliver a high quality experience — this is what our fans expect and what we demand of ourselves at EA SPORTS. But making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. This decision puts us on the right track for success well into the future in a rapidly changing industry.

I'm disappointed that we have not yet met our high expectations with NBA LIVE, but I remain motivated about where we're going. We're committed to delivering new innovation in online, and our progress in the visual presentation of the game continues to take big strides. We also know that a great game starts with great gameplay, and this remains a huge priority for us.

This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans. I hope you'll agree when you're able to play the game next year.

Andrew Wilson
Executive Vice President, EA SPORTS

When you have more than 70 plus members working on an annual project, it isn't going to be a great project. They chose to hire more hands instead of an intimate small team. Not the employee's fault, just the employer and maybe the person who oversees the whole entire project, which I think should be fired.

Lol. Every single thing they have done and shown over the past few months pointed towards this happening, and any time any of us brought up the obvious, we were called 2K fanboys or Live haters.

No, our nostrils simply work and we could smell this disaster for what it is; a pile of crap.

It's a sad day for basketball fans, and another blow to this generation of option-less sports genres. That said, the sugar-coating and self-convincing that was going on wasn't any better. This was a clear catastrophe from the beginning.

??

I would take them YEARS to make a game of this magnitude with a small team. 70 team members isn't all that big either. You're reaching a little bit.

What's funny is EA is paying for a license that they don't even use now.

everywhere says 4, no source says 5.

But yeah, I get your point.

But with the competition, I think they lose 2-3 million.

When live was around, 2-3 million for an nba title was a success for either them or 2k

This statement is, sadly, SO true. Whenever anyone mentioned the probability of this happening, some folks went into immediate defense mode and denial. You either hated EA or was just trolling. At some point, people have to stop thinking with their hearts and use history as a teaching tool. This thing played out SO much like Elite, it truly is not funny.

This IS sad news. It's sad for the folks that hoped to see another quality title being available.

That's what I've been saying, 2k has been competing against themselves for years now, that's their only competition, to prove that they can make the next product better. People are assuming 2k will turn into EA, if Live is cancelled. We don't know what 2k basketball will be like when or if Live is cancelled, so all of this competition talk is just a excuse to buy a terrible game in my opinion. Competition has it's place but I don't think we should assume, I mean EA has tried to buy the NBA rights from 2k and they tried to buy Take-two. Competition is terrible either way because a giant like EA will just buy the competition out, and we are stuck with their product.

No, I don't think so. 70 is alot for a team that has just been assembled together with most of them not knowing the game engine or where the direction of the game is going. EAC sent probably one or two guys to tiburon..which is not really not doing much. How many of those people would you say are experience in game design? sports design? we don't know the specifics. EA said it themselves that they are bringing in more people to revamp the series to hit the ground running. They threw that number out there. Had they continued with the regular staff, I think it would have been a much better product. A small team, 2-3 years would have gave them live 13..vs hiring 70 people and starting in 2012 to create live 13..

What? I'm confused so they own the game, but they can't re-use it, even though they own it?

Right. Because they got plenty of money in order to get over this. But this leaves the question why a company, that rich and wealthy, remains unable to produce one single game in two years. Other smaller or poorer companies have good reason to fail here and there. But in the case of EA it's just inexplicable and also inexcusable...

Thank goodness for the "other guys."

Do you really think that without competition, EA still would have cancelled their NBA game the last two years?

Well, I agree with some of your finer points and questions. But a 70 member team can get it done. You just have to know how to manage it. That's all I'm saying.

Your point about no direction and experience is 100% valid.
