NBA Live 13 News Post

NBA Live 13 has been canned, kicked to the curb, canceled, put out to pasture. However you want to put it, NBA Live 13 is no more.

Below is a statement from EA Sports Executive Vice President, Andrew Wilson.

Quote:
After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective.

When we started the process of bringing back NBA LIVE, we knew it was going to be a long journey. We started by moving the game to a new studio. We brought in some of the best new technology that has helped fuel innovation in our other games. We launched an even deeper level of engagement with our community to gather more feedback directly from fans. And we built a whole new development team to bring it all to life. We felt like we were on the right path.

We also made a commitment to deliver a high quality experience — this is what our fans expect and what we demand of ourselves at EA SPORTS. But making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. This decision puts us on the right track for success well into the future in a rapidly changing industry.

I'm disappointed that we have not yet met our high expectations with NBA LIVE, but I remain motivated about where we're going. We're committed to delivering new innovation in online, and our progress in the visual presentation of the game continues to take big strides. We also know that a great game starts with great gameplay, and this remains a huge priority for us.

This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans. I hope you'll agree when you're able to play the game next year.

Andrew Wilson
Executive Vice President, EA SPORTS

This is idiotic on EA's part. They own the Live 10 animations and engine. Rebuild off of that. Stop trying to build off of Elite.

Couldn't agree more. They've been having plenty of time to deliver but they miserably failed AGAIN. No need to sugarcoat the whole thing...

Sorry, but you can call EA anything but being competitive when it's about basketball simulations...

I am glad that the replacement refs are gone, now maybe they can help lead EA Sports. They would do a better job, they are more competent than the suits over there.

Yeah competition would be nice ,but EA put that card to pasture with that stunt they pulled in 05. I only expect that a company whose core developers are forced to focus one game(mostly) would get that one game right, and if I remember correctly a lot of the guys that would have been making NFL 2K6 went to the NBA 2K team. This is a case of EA reaping what they sewed, sort of speak.

You have to be kidding me....EA I officially hate you.....had my hopes up after a 2 year hiatus.....and you pull this..even a November release would have been better than nothing.

I have been making EA vs. 2k videos for the last few weeks, hoping to lead up to a 13 series comparison and now this crap....

Disappointment is a understatement of how I feel right now....sad, sad and sad!

Hate you so much right now it's not even funny...

Another year of just 1 title.......

First Sony disappeared and EA just gives up....

Exactly and 99% of OS and other forums feel the same way!

I thought I was having a déjà-vu moment until I saw it said NBA Live & not NBA Elite. EA Sports should just keep quiet abut any basketball game until it's literally ready to hit the shelves. It's like watching an episode of The Office where you feel embarrassed for the character on screen. I actually find myself feeling embarrassed for EA.
The thing that really grinds with me is all that bull from Mr Wilson. Not wanting to release a game that wasn't ready for the fans! Come on guys, we damn well know this game would be on the shelves next week if it wasn't for a little game called NBA 2K13. This is exactly why we need competition when it comes to the big franchises.

dude if it were that easy to do, they would have done that by now. We dont know if the code engine has legal rights to them. Those filters might have been thrown out the window once live10 was done. Live10 engine might be limited to the point where it might not be able to upgrade. The growth of that engine cant really grow without its original crew members behind it.....it doesent make sense to have a completely different team work on a project they did not create

There's more to it than just a simple "why cant they build of 2k10".....

buisness is buisness at the end of the day

2k has been in competition since 2k7 they've been competing against themselves. So they will have competition, just not against another company(if live is cancelled) Will the products suffer if live dies maybe, but 2k is not EA. 2k as a company has always gone towards the simulation audience, and I don't think that will change.

I'm worried because like Czar says 2k can just decide to hold back on resources and not give their full effort. I'm not saying 2k will be okay without competition because nobody knows until it actually happens.

But we can't assume they'll be like EA when they have the market to themselves. So all the competition talk doesn't make sense because most of the arguments are assumptions. How many of you guys were going to buy live just for competition sakes?

I think this is the best possible decision by ea. why rush the game this year only to receive negative feedback and probably lose money. I know a lot of people are saying that this is the en I ea basketball but I think it could be a blessing in disguise. The extra year in development might be enough to make this a competent game

EA might as well dead the franchise until Next gen so they're not putting together another piss poor effort like what debuted for this current generation.

I'll never forget this commercial/trailer and how EA never put together a game that resembled it.
Remember these two?

Madden http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7r0HmuEkMw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

All i can do is laugh. This is the same thing they said for Elite 11. How much time do you need off? Just take 5 years and remake the whole thing. I don't really play much Live (haven't owned Live since 2005 and played Live 10 a handful of times) but I jus hope the lack of competition doesn't ruin the "other" and far superior game...

How many more years do they need in order to release one competitive game?

They're losing money by not releasing the game. What would be smart is to fire whoever is managing the series. Two years and two cancelled games, it's ridicules.
