Madden NFL 13 News Post

Because I have been asked about this via Twitter and email so often, I wanted to make sure people were aware.

Justin Dewiel, Community Manager for EA Sports, just confirmed via Twitter (just follow the timeline), if you coach a team, you can no longer play other games on the schedule, only the game(s) on your own schedule.

For example. Rgiles asked if he could coach the Cowboys in CCM, but play the Patriots vs. Browns game.

Justin stated that it is not possible, because CCM is based around you and your character (coach or player).

Have you seen the videos? It really is a step up to what was used before. They do not have us lined or whatever, there are some of us who are happy to get the changes we got and see that complaining OVER AND OVER is pointless as they are not gonna change anything. Say what you will, I still bet you buy the game.

Wow... so much fail in here.

I just knew that Megatron would break the Madden Curse...

Only he sort of deflected it back into the actual game. D@mnit!

? but isn't that how this "monumental change" happened in the first place?

I remember a few years ago when MLB: The Show announced that they would let you control all 32 teams and all aspects of the game. They would even let you control who got injured and how long they were injured for. Here was the top baseball game in Video Games knowing what the people want. Some could argue MLB the Show is THE video game when it comes to sports.

NBA 2K realized what the people wanted. They gave you the power to control your NBA World however you wanted. They realized fans wanted the power to create their own NBA drafts and it was given. Here was the top basketball game in Video games knowing what the people want. Some could argue NBA 2K is THE video game when it comes to sports.

Now some of you can post and say these modes aren’t important or that you just don’t understand. You can say that you’re angry but in the end you’ll just live with it. The above mentioned franchises knew what was important and knew what the future of their games needed to have and I don’t think that can be stressed enough.

So here you have Madden who possibly beat both those games to the punch when it comes to franchise mode. You could finally edit players during the season; you could for the longest time already control all 32 teams. They didn’t let you edit your own NFL drafts but they at least had the NCAA Import feature which was not great but good enough for most. They had the chance, the opportunity to become the top sports game again, a sports game the NBA and MLB the Show probably tried to be like in some aspects, or at least once upon a time. Madden ’13 was going to be THE game once again, but it was going to be a lot of hard work. I feel like Madden put a lot of work into this game but at what cost? The cost obviously is a deleted franchise mode. Features that fans have known for years are gone and new features that were in Madden 12 are now lost as well. Also how much work did they really put in? Is a “Connected Careers” mode really a lot of hard work because it’s a new feature? Or was in the easy way out because Madden gave up the hard work that was needed to fix two features that were already there?

This isn’t a rant or a post full of anger, it’s a realization. Madden ’13 is the year of “Connected Careers” and I honestly hope everything works out perfect and that this mode is a huge success with no major flaws because if there is, there will only be a patch to fix it (if even possible), not the users of Operation Sports.
Good post. In my opinion, makers of NBA 2K and MLB The Show have tried to make consumers happy. EA is trying to improve its bottom line by trying to control the way we play.

Put all of the modes together in order to get people online, where we can charge more for additional features. Oh, but if we move them all online, we have to limit their abilities to "cheat." Therefore, importing draft classes, editing rosters, custom playbooks, playing games other than your team's - all the things that are available to offline players, now must be eliminated to level the playing field.

I know I sound like Chicken Little, screaming about the sky falling, but I just have a sneaking suspicion that this is what we're heading for.

Lord they better not....I witnessed first hand how the XP Pack Buying destroyed what was left of Fight Night Champion.....People called them "Steroid Packs" because they let people enhance their fighters and dominate Online...while the other guys who didn't want to purchase these Steroid Packs had to go through a much harder process to get their fighters to be competitive...

^^And to make matters worse their Multiplayer MatchMaking Logic was so terrible that you'd constantly have fighters who were just starting out going up against these steroid freaks

"No DLC, you have to grind it out" - quote from one of the videos.

Really a reach to complain about either way since you obviously wouldn't buy it and you could probably prevent people from using it in your own leagues just as you were able to limit helper DLC in NCAA.

The fact is the Madden team WOULD have kept most of these things in if there was competition out there. The only way they try something so drastic is because they know they are the only game in town.

It's almost like they have no idea what people want with their game.

I am a fully 32 Team offline Franchise player and this is the worst news that I could have possibly gotten. I play my more favorite team in each game. I have know idea how I will play this game this season.

CC Mode was good on paper, but the removal of true franchise mode is killing this right now

Not that I wanted most of the things removed. I personally like realism and focusing on one team without having to tamper with other teams for a realistic feel. If Madden 13 can offer me that I'm not overly disappointed with the things we are losing. Still can't understand why they thought it was a good idea to make such drastic changes so sudden.

Man I think this is the first year I will go without a football game :'(

Because that is EA they try to make a big media splash in May/June and hype game. They don't care if they take out feature that's fans like.

And in my opinion that is what makes games like MLB The Show such a treasure. You ask you receive and get to keep all the other features you have grown to love. Those developers love to communicate and make gamers happy and exited to play their games for more than a month or season.

It seems the past few years with Madden they just build a game to get them to the next year.

I also see Russell on here asking how to make game better and what fans want improved upon.

I think its a HUGE mistake and I am now going on record that MADDEN 13 is a NO BUY for me this year.

I know many of you wont care and that is fine, but at the same time I think EA needs to hear it at least from one single loyal customer. Its a shame too because the week earlier had me on a real high with the news of this new physics based engine to finally perhaps make gameplay feel more dynamic and less repetitious game in and game out.

But the fact that I can no longer enjoy playing a Franchise Mode in the Commissioner/Gode Mode that I like to play by creating a team and a few players and inserting them into the league to set up some really exciting What If scenarios along with the inability to play out each different Monday Night Matchup and all the Post Season games simply removes all the appeal of game for me.

Am I angry?...At first, extremely, but now that anger has simply changed to extreme disappointment. I think this will actually be the first year in over 12 seasons that I skip this game and that is going to be tough.

I really cant understand how EA simply couldnt have left Franchise Mode completely alone for those of us players that dont care at all about connecting our careers and multiplayer and created this Connected Career Mode as a completely seperate Menu Feature....(because God only knows how they actually love over saturating their Main Menus with tons of different modes anyways)

This would have actually been the one time when it would have made sense to break them out into 2 different Modes and they would have been able to appeal to BOTH audiences rather than completely alienating one group.

Bad Design Decision EA
If you have bought the past 12 years of Madden, including the total Farce that was Madden 06, I'm pretty sure you will still being buying this version Lis.

Taken away the ability to control other teams also hurts the gamers that like to play offline franchise with friends and family. Thats cool that some like to control one team and this doesn't affect them but taken away Muti-Player does hurt the gamers who enjoy playing there franchise with family and friends.

Too much attention to details and control options to not make the experience worth...

It's easy to say that. I've purchased each Madden since Madden '94, and only regretted buying two -- which I traded in within a few weeks. I also am planning to boycott Madden this year, but I won't dismiss the premise of your comment because I'll probably be swayed if the game gets great ratings. However, do you think that will happen?

I'm saying this: I will not buy Madden unless I find out they patched in the ability to control each team or play their games.
