As for all this clutter discussion, I'm not a huge fan, but I'm ok with it looking like a video game. Most games I grew up with have had some form of this.

As long as its not pitch cursors flying across the screen in opposite directions four meters bouncing for "power ups" I'm ok with it. Don't love it, but I've always found the empty screen approach "dull".

You know...after skimming through this thread and the others with topics on mlb game play, stances, stadium upgrades, batting helmets and etc., I honestly don't know why Ramone constantly comes back here to give out information. It seems like no matter what he does, he gets attacked from various individuals that don't like a certain thing. Like earlier this year when people were complaining about something insignificant as to why there is a dog at Turner Field instead of the cow or whatever the issue was and Ramone snapped that he wouldn't provide anything Braves related again. No other company is as freely with information about an upcoming game as Ramone is for Sony but some of these people here seem to think they deserve more. I don't know. If nothing else, Ramone definitely is a patient individual.

Anyway, I'm wondering why types of things has been added to RttS since it got a major overhaul in last years game..

Give us something new to get excited about Russell?!

Give us a better broadcast presentation, a deeper franchise and additonal fielding and batter animations on the field, and I'm going to be one happy guy!

I don't think he means "big change" in terms of the game....he means in respect to last year's default camera.

Dalger, I cant find it, but i think RTTS added starting as a higher ranked prospect or something of that nature.
someone who knows will chime in I am sure.

As far as the brave thing. One of the funny moments was Braves fans seeing a Cyber photo of Jason Heyward in one of the screenshots and worried there would be no real photo for him, then later Russ dropped a phot with smile like he swallowed a piano pointing at a screengrab of the J-hey kid with his stock photo, with a caption like 'gotcha' or something to that effect.
Ahh even after 1,049 hours working on the Show, he can still let loose and have fun with us.

he's been cool in my book ever since that one.

If I'm not mistaken, in the same thread, he mentioned that they haven't agreed upon a method to incorporate rainouts that made SENSE for the series. If done, it would have to be functional and enjoyable for the player (thus, a lot of brainstorming on a way to execute it, coding it in to the game itself and schedule, and so on). Considering where it falls on their priority list, I can't find any fault in the way he explained it in the post mentioned.

Guys, SCEA would give us the world if they could. But time and resources force them to have to set things aside or further down their list (especially one's such as this that would require a lot of work). Though we want rain delays, it wouldn't necessarily be "fun" for a lot of the casual gamers out there to have to restart a game after 4 innings. OS only represents a small portion of this series' consumer base.

I'll go out on a limb here and say we'll see it eventually. But it has to be done practically, and if done, it HAS to be done right. Ramone alluded to that while giving HIS opinion on it.

Re-read his post(s) on the subject and I'll think you'll see what I'm getting at.
You might want to read one of his more recent posts as you will see that is what he is saying.

Russ knows what this board is. He knows what we "do" although we do it more than we used to. It's not ideal but we're here (mods) to make sure it doesn't get personal.

That's why I hope people use the report feature. I've already said in numerous threads I'm buying the game , but I don't have to like everything that is in it, and neither does anyone else.

I find a lot of the stuff that gets brought up sort of crazy, but I have my own "well-publicized" nitpicking as well. Look at the thread I just locked. I realized I had said that before and it would probably turn into piling on anyway.

I do wish every thread wouldn't turn into "I'm not buying unless _____"

From the ESPN Preview:

"
"MLB 12": By the Numbers
There's just so much added to "MLB 12: The Show," the only way I could do it justice is a breakdown some of the stats:
500+ new presentation animations
300+ new fielding, throwing and baserunning animations
150+ new batting stances
75+ new pitching animations
14 new umpires complete with their own personalities
2 new training techniques in Road to the Show (baserunning, fielding), as you're now a Double-A starter who is the most touted prospect on the team.
Add to that the addition of Season and Franchise mode in co-op, new pitcher confidence logic, and franchise improvements that include new contract logic, improved trade logic and an all-new free-agent signing process, and you have the baseball game "Show" fans have been waiting for."

There ya go.

Yeah....
He's saying pretty much what heroes is saying here.....
Here is Russ' latest post on it.....

Now rain outs and double headers, I've said this in another thread. We aren't that crazy about them in a video game. Cost vs. benefit analysis of development time and resources just doesn't add up. So we aren't going to do it. Unless one of our designers comes up with a compelling and innovative way to do it. Until then rain outs and double headers aren't happening.

You know I have mad respect for him (Russell) for stepping up and saying it like it is. I would rather have honesty so that I don't get my hopes up wishing for this and that..........only to never see it.

Tunnel vision. So sad.

Let's just completely overlook all the other things changed because what I want isn't in.

OS didn't used to be this way - and we were better off because of it.
The tunnel vision works both ways, with defenders of The Show or even other games conveniently overlooking obvious flaws, and then jumping all over anyone who happens to bring up said flaws.

And please, let's stop with the praise of the community managers that post on this site. They get free feedback from very dedicated gamers. If they can't take a little criticism along the way from some anonymous shmoe on teh intranet then they need to go find a new job. I mean, they should know what they are getting into by now, and be able to navigate the trolls without much trouble.

Community manager on this title is also a dev. He is not paid to sit on these forums

There might be a bit of truth to what you are saying (with regard to what a community manager's job is), but a lot of what gets communicated between the devs and the community here in this specific forum, to me, don't necessarily directly lead to SCEA's profit.

The inclusion of the manage mode is probably a good example... they probably lost money by working on it. If their goal is just to make $$$, I bet it is actually better for the devs to ignore a majority of what we suggest here in OS, because a lot of them are simply very neurotic and just really, really (and perhaps needlessly) hardcore from casual gamers' perspectives.

I'm kinda surprised how some parts of this game is so damn polished, when the majority of target gamers wouldn't even care/realize how carefully engineered the core gameplay engine is... I'm not saying the game's perfect of course, but it's definitely not something that works "good enough" just to fake arcade gamers... and that "good enough" work would've been sufficient if their goal is to just have a profitable franchise.

OS might help the devs to push the Show to its limit, but I don't think that translates into a wide profit margin... so I appreciate that the devs themselves are committed to still improve the game, and also are listening to us along the way.

Well, I might be wrong about our suggestions not making them profitable, of course, but...

... and it's just so sad to reduce everything to monetary (i.e., job) issues... Would you not thank a firefighter if s/he saved a kid from a burning house in a fire? Do you just dismiss it by saying it's his job and he's getting paid to do it? Being respectful is never a bad thing.

# 214 thaSLAB @ 12/31/11 11:57 PM
nomo17k, you have really made some great post in this thread. Especially your point about respect...

The devs could easily leave us in the dark, as many do, and tell us "this is our game we made, take it or leave it" - SCEA should really be commended for even submitting themselves to this type of situation. Unless maybe they enjoy the torture.

I don't think my question got answered lol. Is ball 4 in the dirt bug where it charges an error to the catcher gone?? And is crowd placement throughout stadiums any different from last year?

# 216 toolapc1978 @ 01/01/12 12:54 AM
Does anyone know if stats in the game have been deepend. Ive asked before and I just want to know if you have what a hitter is hitting against certain pitchers or what a hitter is hitting in certain ballparks. i like the braves and would love to see like in the middle of the season what lets say chipper is batting against the phillies for the year or what he is hitting against cliff lee. those kind of stats would be awesome. what his average is in certain counts. this game is already awesome and i think this would make it better cause we all know baseball is a stats king. everything is accounted for. so can anyone please answer this and great job RUSSELL dealing with all the bull you get on here and the product you are putting out. thank you.

Guys this is not a "q and a thread"

# 218 BlingBlaine @ 01/01/12 03:48 AM
Im a hardcore player who sets the pitch speed at max, that being said "focus groups saying the game is too hard" really worries me. Making money seems to be the focus there, trying to appeal to every tom dic.k and harry. We all know what happens when devs try to appeal to the vast populous...lame dumbed down games.

I would vote to make a rookie mode for all new comers to the game, this would be appealing to all your "focus people" and wouldnt jeopardise the realism and difficulty of the game.

Also adding some icons onscreen is ok, but please dont add any more, as I am speaking for the hardcore audience.

After reading all the posts, the score bug is located in the only place it could be. The clutter should have an option to toggle, (it isnt in this year, hopefully next year) or a rookie mode as someone else suggested. Otherwise it looks well polished. Keep it going.

You can make a game more popular to everyone by adjusting different things across different difficulty levels. One thing they can do is have a different default pitch speed for each difficulty level. Rookie's default pitch speed should be very slow and it should jump with each difficulty level. Stuff like that makes it easier to make everyone happy. And having a bigger slider scale would also let everyone customize the game to their liking. Having only one default pitch speed and a weak 10 point slider scale in the past has hurt this area. Here's hoping that gets a big tweak for MLB 12.
