From the ESPN Preview:

"
"MLB 12": By the Numbers
There's just so much added to "MLB 12: The Show," the only way I could do it justice is a breakdown some of the stats:
500+ new presentation animations
300+ new fielding, throwing and baserunning animations
150+ new batting stances
75+ new pitching animations
14 new umpires complete with their own personalities
2 new training techniques in Road to the Show (baserunning, fielding), as you're now a Double-A starter who is the most touted prospect on the team.
Add to that the addition of Season and Franchise mode in co-op, new pitcher confidence logic, and franchise improvements that include new contract logic, improved trade logic and an all-new free-agent signing process, and you have the baseball game "Show" fans have been waiting for."

There ya go.

Here is Russ' latest post on it.....

Now rain outs and double headers, I've said this in another thread. We aren't that crazy about them in a video game. Cost vs. benefit analysis of development time and resources just doesn't add up. So we aren't going to do it. Unless one of our designers comes up with a compelling and innovative way to do it. Until then rain outs and double headers aren't happening.

You know I have mad respect for him (Russell) for stepping up and saying it like it is. I would rather have honesty so that I don't get my hopes up wishing for this and that..........only to never see it.

Tunnel vision. So sad.

Let's just completely overlook all the other things changed because what I want isn't in.

OS didn't used to be this way - and we were better off because of it.
The tunnel vision works both ways, with defenders of The Show or even other games conveniently overlooking obvious flaws, and then jumping all over anyone who happens to bring up said flaws.

And please, let's stop with the praise of the community managers that post on this site. They get free feedback from very dedicated gamers. If they can't take a little criticism along the way from some anonymous shmoe on teh intranet then they need to go find a new job. I mean, they should know what they are getting into by now, and be able to navigate the trolls without much trouble.

There might be a bit of truth to what you are saying (with regard to what a community manager's job is), but a lot of what gets communicated between the devs and the community here in this specific forum, to me, don't necessarily directly lead to SCEA's profit.

The inclusion of the manage mode is probably a good example... they probably lost money by working on it. If their goal is just to make $$$, I bet it is actually better for the devs to ignore a majority of what we suggest here in OS, because a lot of them are simply very neurotic and just really, really (and perhaps needlessly) hardcore from casual gamers' perspectives.

I'm kinda surprised how some parts of this game is so damn polished, when the majority of target gamers wouldn't even care/realize how carefully engineered the core gameplay engine is... I'm not saying the game's perfect of course, but it's definitely not something that works "good enough" just to fake arcade gamers... and that "good enough" work would've been sufficient if their goal is to just have a profitable franchise.

OS might help the devs to push the Show to its limit, but I don't think that translates into a wide profit margin... so I appreciate that the devs themselves are committed to still improve the game, and also are listening to us along the way.

Well, I might be wrong about our suggestions not making them profitable, of course, but...

... and it's just so sad to reduce everything to monetary (i.e., job) issues... Would you not thank a firefighter if s/he saved a kid from a burning house in a fire? Do you just dismiss it by saying it's his job and he's getting paid to do it? Being respectful is never a bad thing.

nomo17k, you have really made some great post in this thread. Especially your point about respect...

The devs could easily leave us in the dark, as many do, and tell us "this is our game we made, take it or leave it" - SCEA should really be commended for even submitting themselves to this type of situation. Unless maybe they enjoy the torture.
