1000x better just based on the demo. the only gripe i have is the sound of the ball bouncing off the rim. it sounds like a iron school-yard rim and it's been in the game for at least 3 years. that being said, if that's my only issue, i'll take it! absolutely solid work, 2k!

I ACTUALLY took a charge on a driving cpu This was NEVER possible in 2k11 it would of been a blocking foul.

I love how you could easily punish when a big is switch on to ur guard. It was alittle too unrealistically difficult to do that in 2k11 with the suction cup defense.

I tried multiple times to lead pass through the CPU like i did in 2k11 and the cpu wasnt having it. (LOVE IT)

Did anyone else get lit up by mario chalmers for a couple of games.

Played it a bit this morning... My simple conclusion: they made a GREAT game (2k11) even better. BUT, I'm not blown away.

I honestly LOVE 2k11 - so, I'm not sure if I'll jump right up and purchase 2k12 because it felt like I was playing a bit more refined / touched up version of 2k11.

good stuff, but felt like more of the same with a number of enhancements. this is totally a positive...

if you loved 2k11, you'll like 2k12 even more. but the question is this: is it *really* worth running out the door on release day? in my opinion it's not...

i'm a classic nba guy - i really don't enjoy today's NBA at all. so i have to ask myself if it's worth grabbing 2k12 when i have a TON of GREAT classic rosters for 2k11... this i'm not sure about.

Eventually these games will peak at a certain point. It's crazy that this is a "negative" because you can only portray the sport of basketball so many ways.

No one ever goes on a court then complains that basketball... feels like... basketball...

I liked the shots. one time i was facing the side line behind the three with 1 on the clock, i shot and he jumped spinning while in air to shoot, it looked dam good. the bump was still there but i wasnt out of control just felt like i was beat by the D , thumbs up. Fastbreaks look good, seem fluid.

I really only noticed the ball being extremely live a few of times. i noticed my hand going through the ball and the ballhandlers didnt tend to lose the ball off the slightest contact ie bumping into other players.

The demo felt like a better 2k11. It kinda makes me feel like they spent more time on legends. I think some are judging the game to high based on the demo, but thats to be expected in a nba 2k forum(ex. guys amazed by small ads in the corner, really). i was guilt of this last year so ima take my time before harsh judgement or great praise. i judge bball games on gameplay only. 2k12 feels likeit will be a $60 gameplay tweek and and roster update. but, you know what if they pull it off it may be worth it, to a degree.

Why is ever1 saying this is an early build? Are you saying they wait 2weeks before realease to put out an old build. i wanna play what i would be purchasing. Seems like its a built in excuse for people. i played 2k11 demo while 2k12 downloaded and it felt better than the actual 2k11 current game.
cause the demo is never the final build and ronnie on twitter said it himself that it was not the final build. This is a stripped down version noticed how there wasnt any playcalling or defensive calling.

A few things:

1. Small, but I liked how the music kicked in before the game reached the title screen.

2. In 2K11, when being posted up, I could press the steal button and automatically make the post player spin in response (thus putting himself in a tougher position). This year, I gave the "steal" a whirl in the post and I was hit with a reach-in foul. Very necessary and welcomed improvement.

3. Last year, even if a computer non-point guard dribbled the ball up the floor, he'd try to pass the ball to the PG at all costs in order to initiate the offense. So with that, it was very neat to see LeBron James bringing the ball up the floor in 2K12 and watching Mario Chalmers react not by waiting at the top of the key for the ball, but rather by taking a position in the offense and letting LeBron initiate the play himself.

4. As others have said, the computer has become much less predictable in the early going here. They've had me off my feet in some iso situations.

5. I like the long bomb lead pass (where, if a player is releasing down floor, a teammate will throw it ahead of him a little and the receiver then reels it in off the bounce). LeBron James caught such a pass seamlessly and subsequently dunked it down. However, on my two attempts, there was an animation hiccup between catch and conversion. I think it had to do with my turbo button. I'd guess the catch of that long lob bounce occurs in non-turbo, so if I have turbo held down, I'd see that "glitch into turbo" animation right before taking off.

6. Of 5-6 dunks that have occurred, I'm not sure any of them have been new. I don't expect dunk overhauls each year, but I'm anxious to see new ones.

7. The controls in the post and off the dribble will definitely warrant some re-learning. I wasn't quite sure how to put together a series of dribble moves so at one point I just sort of spazzed out on the left analog stick and it actually created a series of smooth dribbling moves (that gave me no advantage over the defender the time - and rightfully so -, but still).

8. I've watched some Dirk 2K12 post highlight videos. A lot of the post moves look excellent. However, some of them have funny, and possibly illegal looking footwork that appear at least a little disjointed.

9. The presentation is very impressive in terms of introductions and in-game adverts. I'm guessing the "Buy 2K12 in early October" graphic that pops up in the left corner of the screen with Dirk and Bron will eventually be replaced by "upcoming showdowns" via NBA Today or Association. Very cool.

10. I don't know how I feel about crowd reaction audio at this point. It's hard to get a good read without having the commentary included and whatnot. But at this point, it really does sound as if crowd reactions aren't always accurate and on-point (like the ol' Ray Allen three point play bringing forth zero home crowd reaction in the OS gameplay video).

No biggie just trying to chop my steps and force the ball handler to help. I like the chess match believe me.
I got you. Try tapping the left stick on defense that is who I play when I am locked in. Then you can hold both triggers and tap for that extra boost. Works better for me than holding a direction.

Agreed
When you get to NBA 2k level of continued success and constantly putting out good games, it gets to the point where you can put out a similar game and just "tweak" it and add features. 2k is at that point. The game was good at almost every phacet of the game, so there wasnt a urgency to create a Ground-breaking feature. I am getting this game day 1 and I dont have any second doubts about it.
I dont think there will be a huge difference here out in the next few years until the new consoles come out.

Just got finished running a couple games, and here's what I've observed so far.

-Definitely feels like the rock is more "loose" if that makes sense. Out of control play will definitely lead to turnovers and scraps for the loose pill.

-Player movement is considerably smoother than 2k11.

-Very nice touches to the presentation. Interested to see the rest in the full version.

-Playing with Dirk in the post is fun. This may be the first year where I really get into studying and learning post play. It seems like it will be really rewarding once mastered.

-Can't emphasize enough how smooth shooting feels. Jumpshots are quicker and more fluid.

-CPU seems less linear and predictable. I saw Wade and Lebron doing all types of moves to get into the lane, and it's really cool to see the CPU utilizing moves like pump fakes and stepbacks.

Over the years I have morphed from an Association guy to strictly My Player, and I think us My Player fanatics are going to be in for a real treat this year, if the CPU AI is any indication. I don't envision the games being as static as they were last year. Something tells me that team/player tendencies will really shine through this year.

Here's to the longest two weeks of my entire life so far.

Hurry up.

This is what I meant when I said it doesn't smack you in the mouth. The more you play the more you recognize the improvements. It REALLY became apparent to me playing full 12 min per qtr games. The defense alone in 2k12 blows anything you find in 2k11 away. It's not even slightly comparable from the code to the execution.

Again no plays for the user in the demo. The AI in 2k12 is much much better. Not slightly but much better but again it's not a knock you over the head but once you lock horns with this beast for a few 12 min qtr sim games That is when you can really start to appreciate it.

All the work is in the code. It's under the hood. That stuff takes time. But consider post game, offensive rebounding and fastbreak improvements alone along with the offense and cpu defense and there is no way the gameplay of 2k11 holds up well against 2k12.

To some that is not a huge improvement. But a basketball game with improvements in all those areas in gameplay would have to be better than a game that does those exact things poorly... or not nearly as well. Just my opinion of course.

There was no need to destroy and rebuild. 2k11 had a great base. If they would have completely rehauled everything, people would be pulling "why change things that were fine" card.

You cant have it both ways.

I for one dont want a completely changed game evey year. Ill GLADLY take a "perfectly patched" version of 2k11 anyday...not sure how thats a bad thing, but to each their own. I could see if they game had no new features at all.

good lord I love shooting with Dirk.

# 194 lsalas76 @ 09/20/11 11:42 AM
I too like the demo. I was able to score 18 points a few times and held the heat to 8 at least one time. I used Jason Kidd and tried to lock down on Chalmers as much as I could and let the cpu deal with Lebron, Wade, and Bosh. I like that you can post up anywhere you want. I was able to drive to the basket with Jason Kidd and Dirk. Dirk seems to be money. I shot outside, posted up, hit some 3's. I also did some kind of move with Dirk somehow that resembled "the dream shake." I noticed Lebron and Wade do some high elevation dunks on me. I wanted to try out Marion, Terry, and Stojakovic, too bad it didn't let you make substitutions.

Overall it does seem a bit smoother, redefined, and more fluid. Players seem to move a bit quicker. It seemed easier to me than 2k11 for some reason and I am not that good in 2k11 and thought I would have a harder time with 2k12 and I might when plays are factored in.

game looks incredible besides the passing. balls seem to float in the air, weightless, based on what i'm seeing.

# 196 Outcast @ 09/20/11 11:46 AM
Oh my, CPU keeps fooling me with those pump fakes

# 197 NikeBlitz @ 09/20/11 11:55 AM
I love this game already .

Two questions :

Difference between "Hard foul" & "intentional foul" ?

Still no walk up animation ?

I don't know what some of you guys are taking about, I knew this wasn't 2k11 directly following the opening tip, this game is much smoother and more responsive than 2k11, the transition movement in and out of the post is amazing.
