I honestly LOVE 2k11 - so, I'm not sure if I'll jump right up and purchase 2k12 because it felt like I was playing a bit more refined / touched up version of 2k11.

good stuff, but felt like more of the same with a number of enhancements. this is totally a positive...

if you loved 2k11, you'll like 2k12 even more. but the question is this: is it *really* worth running out the door on release day? in my opinion it's not...

i'm a classic nba guy - i really don't enjoy today's NBA at all. so i have to ask myself if it's worth grabbing 2k12 when i have a TON of GREAT classic rosters for 2k11... this i'm not sure about.
You sound like an older guy... With a job... So just go drop the 60 bucks and get it. The classic rosters on 12 are better anyway if that's what you want

It was not, I noticed this as well. Good eye.

They have also varied up the FT routines for the shooter after a make/miss.

Hopefully it's just the demo, but it seems like they didn't eliminate the ability to travel with the post spins and such.

I have to leave another comment about how smooth this game is because it's amazing. Everything, runners, the post game, momentum shots, blocks, passing animations, iso moves, fast breaks, 2k really did step their game up again.

so guys; here's my 2 cents:

First things first: i'm a hardcore sim guy: the me the proof lies on the court...i dont care about legends, myplaya, association or any bells and whistles.

Another thought infront of anything else: why do they leave out playcalling in a basketball game?? WTF? it like showing off a car and removing the wheel...are they really that afraid that we will play 3 minutes heat vs. mavs games 'till eternity? c'mon 2 k...

now my pro and cos:

pro: - great presentation (player intros, opening cinema, animations, hugely improved Faces and Tattoos & skin textures...) great but not perfect...
- most of the time great spacing and ball movement
- great ball physics (finally)
- nice collisions (also under cons)
- great flow and reasonable AI

con: - presentation botches: some missed audio cues (the "ahhhahhaha" scary voice on turnovers and miss FTs, nealry no crowd reaction, some quirky animation transitions (when running fastbreaks))
- slight morphing (aka not soo great ball phyiscs)
- ad collisions: absolutly NO collision detection for hands (in regards to fouls and underneath the rim) and feet;
- in my 2 h session i had the cpu dribble out of bounds without any pressure 3 times and some bad shots were taken (i.E.: bosh completely open underneath the basket and he dribbles away from the basket for a mid range J)
- in contrast to screenshots (and most other players): Dirk is STILL a Zombie...it looks atrocious in motion...i dont know why the keep on trying to do a "hairy" Dirk...the should try the near bald on...but its not only the hair...his head shape is off...the eyes look AWFUL!

conclusions: NBAk12 is a definitive buy...even without any playcalling its obvious that this game is great. But i sure hope the get a "dirky" Artist for 2k13 and consider a "impact engine" like physics engine atleast for the next generation (which will be here for nba2k14 at least). i know its nitpicking but the rest of the game is that gorgeous...imho anything really revolutionary that could happen to nba 2k is a great physics engine...the made some steps in the right direction...but when a game looks that great fouls on chance and Chandler reaching through wades chest really sticks out...

do you guy agree?

I hope all the signature stuff is this smooth across all teams....NO awkward jumpshots so far.

What about the free throw shooting? Can you still shot a high precentage with a Shaq?

You sure? I remember seeing PG's stand there and wait for the ball PLENTY of times in 2K11 with their hands out. It wasn't as strong as in 2K12, but they pretty much asked.

NBA 2k11 just feels terrible after playing NBA 2k12 for some reason to me.Because the game is so smooth and it has a lot of characteristics. That 2k11 kind of feels like a old dog that can't do tricks.

Just played my first game from the demo..

WOW!

Initial Impressions...

-I love the phase of the game
-Rebounding animations are much much more realistic
-Fastbreak is damn real

More to come...

I recall them asking once you passed the ball but this was just a normal receiving ani. This year they do an animation before you do anything and come to the ball.

If it was in 2k11 (again, don't think so) what he is referring is def. new.

A bit related: In videos (not in the demo) I still don't see the ball handler signaling for a timeout.

There are so many minor additions that the sum of them makes 2K11 nearly unplayable. Also, the movement is a blend of 2K8 and 2K11. It's got all of 2K11's features and then some, but isn't quite as momentum heavy.

Nope its new this year...you can see Lebron or Chalmers ask for the ball after a rebound. There's variants on it to as I've seen Kidd raise one hand up across the court asking for the ball.

2k cam = cheese cam

haven't played the demo yet (i'm on ps3)...but i'm reading all these impressions and i'm BLOWN AWAY by how virtually every impression is all positives...i've been coming on here and reading impressions threads every year for a while now, and this is the most unanimous positive reaction i've ever seen to a demo.

every year people say "this is the year 2k finally did it...they can't out-do themselves"...then every year they make the old game feel old...

but seriously...after all of the control additions and depth of movement in 2k12, they must have reached some kind of peek here...i mean 2k11 was a great game, but i could think of a lot of areas where it still needed some polish...but 2k12 seems to have addressed and polished ALL of those lacking areas from 2k11...2k12 may be the first time that I won't have anything to complain about.

What's really shocking is that the demo was extracted from an old build. I can only wonder how amazing the retail version is going to be like.

# 239 Pared @ 09/20/11 12:50 PM
I can see why people are coming away underwhelmed. You really, really do need to have the ability to call plays to fully get a grasp of what this game can do.

It's amazing - when I was younger, I was ok with just running around and working the ball around. Ever since Inside Drive I don't think I've gone back.

I know I'm not alone - I feel like I can't really control what is going on if the inner coach inside of me can't be used in a game. It's nice taking Dirk or whomever and learning the controls... but it feels so shallow, even for just a few minutes.
