Defense really isn't that hard. The computer constantly probes me and passes backward and rips shots from wherever. Maybe you are playing on pro mode or rookie and not "forcing" long shots so they aren't attempting them. Also it's 3 min halves obviously you won't see the same things you will in a full version full length game. I don't understand some of the complaints.
@RomilyBroad V5G 4X1, Senior community dude for the EA SPORTS FIFA series tweeted:
"Should be a lot less weird Impact Engine moments in the final game, for sure. Better ref calls, too."
This is encouraging to hear and it's good to know they're tweaking based off the demo.
I am sloowly (read very slowly) getting the hang of this new defending.
What I do is basically apply pressure so another player gets in and attempts to get the ball while I cover him.
And this is not effective. Can someone please give us tips on this new defending system? I am getting owned!
Oh and if you're playing that other awesome soccer game, go play something else then switch to Fifa. Switching directly will only lead to further punishment in the D!
The game looks amazing. It really captures the feeling of a large stadium, an International event.
I love how hard it is to get a shot on frame and how hard it is to work down the wings. I've always felt like running the flanks has been too easy in all soccer games.
I was almost certain the cpu never sent an errant pass without pressure, when I finally saw one. It was very cool.
I still haven't seen a shot from distance from a midfielder. I don't expect to be peppered by midfielders. That doesn't happen in any game. But, I do want to see at least 1 shot from a midfielder, be it from distance or not.
The other thing I noticed was that opposing strikers would look to work very close to the net before shooting. On numerous waves, I've pulled my defender almost back to the keeper in hopes of inducing a shot from any distance but the strikers don't take it. They either dribble closer or pass.
I don't know if its related to the level or not (played about 6 games on World Class then a handful more on Pro) but the darn CPU is impossible to catch, check, or even foul. After a while I just wanted to see if I could even get a slide tackle performed and I could not. I don't like going to the ground often but it is sometimes necessary and effective (watch an EPL game). I whiffed on every single attempt to slide tackle.

The lack of fouling concerns me as well. I chased people all over the field and whiffed on most slides.
Have you guys played with the time extender on the PC. There is still a lack of fouls unfortunately with more time. As for slide tackles it is really up to how good of the Defender you are using and it also helps if he has the tackling icon I think. I played ALOT of matches with Man City on the demo and I was able to pull a nice slide tackle maybe once or twice every other game with Kompany and a few others. I am enjoying this game but I am very 50/50 with it. One second I like and another second I don't. It is mostly due to the AI and the streamlined team play, I swear I am tired of getting scored on the same way sometimes and all teams using the same tactic. However, I have gotten better at defending as I held a clean sheet in 4 straight games. Also I did see some shots from out the box but it is rather rare.
Still can't play the PC demo with a PS3 controller plugged in...ridiculous.
Yeah...unfortunately this one isn't EA's problem. There are no official SixAxis drivers for the Windows OS'es - that's why it doesn't work with any PC games when you just plug it in. It can be done, (google something called MotioninJoy) but it doesn't work for all PC games. Plus it's a bit of a pain to configure, both inside and outside of a game.
Enough so that I went out and got a wired 360 controller to play GTAIV, MLB2K, etc. And yes, having to do that frustrates me just as much, believe me.
Fired this one up for the PC last night. I'm not sure if there is a better looking sports game for the PC. I was blown away.
I enjoyed the PC demo more than the PS3 demo and not just because you can make the halves longer. I found on the PC when you power up your shots they tend not to go sailing over the net as much as on the PS3. The slow speed was noticeably slower than on the PS3 which was better for an old timer like me.

They said fouls were tweaked after the demo released, so hopefully that is the case and we get many, many more.
At this point, it's below the amount of the last few years which is really bad.
100% how I feel after playing many games last night and this morning. The game went from a first-day purchase to a wait and see for me. I only play offline and haven't bought a FIFA game in 2 years specifically because of this issue, along with a couple other offline AI issues that have plagued this series for years and that I'm seeing in this demo.
Did you guys play 2011 version? Does it happen a lot in 2011?
