I didn't play FIFA 11. I was hoping they would eventually fix this, so I skipped a year. It's becoming annoying watching CPU teams run the ball down the side, send a perfect cross to a teammate in the box, and bang -- header into my goal. I dropped down in difficulty to see if it was a settings issue, but the exact same thing happens on the lower difficulty levels as well. It's like some kind of pre-determined auto-goal programming.
I found a temporary fix for this issue in 12. Basically, knowing the CPU will attack the wings, I defend the wings right from the get go (boxing them out, forcing them to play in the middle). When I do this, I notice different results in offense for the CPU. But most of the time they force the issue and attack the wings even if it was heavily defended. This makes it very predictable IMO.
I appreciate the tips, that makes sense. What's annoying me is that the CPU sends perfect crosses onto the heads of its teammates every freaking time, even on amateur difficulty. In PES 2011, CPU players, depending on their ability, will often cross the ball and it misses everyone by yards and ends up rolling OB on the other side of the pitch. It just seems so automatic and deadly in the FIFA demo. But maybe that's because they're all top teams or something?
I think it was made like that lol! Thank god for passing sliders this year. If the sliders are implemented correctly, we can definitely minimize those accurate passes by CPU.
Oh, okay. I didn't realize those were in the game, thanks for the info. I heard something about sliders a while back but it never registered. I assume those sliders aren't in the demo, because I haven't seen any.
I really like the feel of the game this year, I hope it works out that it's fixable with sliders and such.

What crossing assistance do you use? I've long thought that the user's assistance settings somehow affect the CPU as well. I typically use manual crossing, through balls & lobs (and sometimes full manual). I know it sounds like a crackpot internet theory, but I swear it loosens up the CPU's crossing so every one isn't directly to a head.

Or maybe I'm crazy.
Does that settings affects the CPU at all Qb? If so, I'll try i today.
Tweaking the passing error slider is gonna be a must, IMO. However, I dont think we've gotten confirmation that we'll be able to tweak the CPU sliders. Just like madden 09 when EA decided we didn't need cpu sliders
EA are introducing sliders this year to allow you to customise your own experience. Each slider can be changed for both the user and CPU teams seperately and can be done, on the fly, mid match
I was pretty pessimistic based on some of the comments here but seeing the slider list makes me feel a little better. I just wish there was one for fouls as well.
This is still going to be a wait and see for me. I barely played last year because of the career mode and tackling issues.
Downloaded a mod that had Messi in the Arena. Actually got some good footage of him. Gonna have to chop up another video! Man, these player models are just incredible. Can't wait until the full game. I want to see how many players they got right. They appear to gotten a lot of player heads scanned this year. All the guys I've seen in the demo look spot on.
Guys, I want to apologize to the relevant folks for what may have come off as arrogance in some of my posts here. I dont know what set me off but I was indeed a little condescending and that doesnt make the thread a better place.
Qb got pissed at me (with good reason) and then I got pissed at him. He showed class first by pm'ing me and explained what bothered him.
He did not ask for an apology but I wanted to make one here anyway. Heck, every married man should know how to apologize.
Anyway, that's enough of that.
I can't wait to get my hands on the full game for my 3 days. I want to love it because it looks so nice. And, one guy mentioned the "movement". It is really fantastic. I just want the CPU strategy to be solid.
The game is also too fast for me. It doesn't feel quite right that i cant catch a cpu player. Even on PES, I turn speed to -2. Will there be an option to slow the game down like Madden? I play that on very slow.
I took a few minutes to check out Arsenal in replay mode... most guys look good with real scans. Szczensy (GK) is one of the few who doesn't appear to have a true scan. Plus the first-teamers seem to have real boots and not generic ones. I didn't bother to check all the reserve/youth guys. I know there are some licensing hurdles in assigning authentic boots.

same here. Slow on FIFA is a bit too fast still. Usually I'll switch over to PES after fifa and the difference in speed is huge. Takes me a minute or two to adjust.

There's a game speed option in the game settings right before you start a match. I think slow is very well-executed this year.

Szcz and Gervinho looke horrible from the demo. Both players have generic face models, which just seems kind of ridiculous. I'm also pretty steamed at the rating they gave Szcz, I really think he is one of the better young keepers in the world based on some of the saves he has made for Poland and Arsenal both.

I think his rating is pretty fair but I would have expected them to get Gervinho's face spot on.
