After not buying madden for years, I must say this demo feels nice. Its not a perfect game, but it's much better than years past. I think if EA focused on the running animations more, the game would really get more props! No game is perfect, not even the Lovely 2K5. And yes, EA should be far more ahead in making a good game or a great game, but it's not easy trying to please every one. But I think this year's madden is a pretty decent game IMO!!!!

I know I'm late to the party but I prefer the camera angle further away. Allows me to see more of the field and watch the play develop.

Sliders are as important to sports games as picking the minute per quarter that you play. They've done nothing but, make the user experience better. Personally, I wouldn't play a football, baseball or basketball game that didn't have them. The only game that I play that doesn't is UFC and I'd love to see THQ add them *crosses fingers

Press O and it'll go away.

Also experienced some dodgy OL blocking when my center ignored the NT in a 3 front so my QB just got sacked. It's not as bad as previous years but it was a reminder of things that annoy me about Madden. The new camera angles are nice though.

The franchise additions have got me tempted BUT I'm going to continue on with the demo for a week or so to see if i'm going to pick it up. Been burnt by Madden to many times in the past.
I've had the NT unblocked on a few plays too, but they were all run plays. Even plays where up to three guys (C, RG and FB) all missed the NT. I mean, come on, he's 6'2" 340 lbs and not the kind of guy you easily overlook. I haven't seen it on any pass plays yet, but I did notice that's he's incredibly fast once he's off his blocker.

Regarding the dodgy blocking, the OL/DL interaction still seem very scripted to me, as it's been in the past. I especially don't like the fact that DL don't have a drive to get to the ball carrier. They run about and interact with the OL, but they're not really trying to get to the ball carrier.

One of the worst examples of this so far was a play, where one of my DTs was assigned to spy the QB (to counter the mad QB runs) and my other DT was doing a stunt. I had to record a video of it, because it looked so wrong. I'm user controlling Peppers and do get to the QB albeit too late (he threw a TD on that pass), but my DT just runs straight past a WIDE open hole in the offensive line without noticing it. Also the LG seems aware of the play, so he moves into position to block before the DT is even half way there.

On a side note, does anyone, who's tried a more recent build, know if they've fixed zone coverage in regards to the running game? I've seen instances where a CB in zone coverage doesn't recognize a scrambling QB until he's over the line of scrimmage - even if he's running straight at the CB and there's no receiver in his zone.

Also, if your LBs are in zone coverage on a run play, they have to wait until the ball is handed off to the RB before they can react. It appears that play recognition doesn't have any effect until the handoff has taken place - even for players like Urlacher. This is very disappointing, but would explain (along with overpowered OLs) why running is so easy in Madden 12.

Interestingly, I can see the referees better in Madden than NCAA. In NCAA, the back judge would, at a glance, be hard for me to distinguish from the safeties and it'd mess me up a bit. In Madden, I don't have that issue at all.

I agree. I like this better too.

On the Xbox the instant replays are way too short. The Xbox demo only shows the last seconds of the play.

On the PS3 the instant replays are just fine. Here you can see the full play.

I hope, they will fix this issue on the Xbox soon.

As far as the default camera angle. You will have the zoomed camera option, the broadcast option or the classic option (demo). I am going to give the zoomed camera a run this year as I have heard it adds so much in the way of sim elements, and the game looks gorgerous as your much closer to the field.

If your a long time Madden fan....IMO this is the Madden we have been waiting for on next gen.

I can see myself diving into gameplanning big time with the improved gameflow system. I have been using it for 70% of my play calls and I can't wait to customize it and challenge myself to execute the plays as if I am the player and the coach is calling them in. It adds a major element of sim and challenge. Plus when you customize your audibles you can change the play if warrented.

I have seen DPP at work. Finely got rocked a few times going across the middle for some catches. He dropped both after getting blown up. He then had DPP take effect in dropping wide open passes (he was now hearing footsteps).

Dude!!!! Are your friggin joking me?

THIS GAME IS GOING TO ROCK!!!!
I agree this years Madden has great potential....I can see myself playing it all year which hasn't been the case for about 5-6 years now

I was sold on the game after playing the demo about 4 times....i haven't played it much since but that's only because i'm not real big demo guy or fan of the Packers or Bears

With a few tweaks this year I think Madden 12 will hands down be the best football game by EA this year no disrespect to NCAA 12 but it simply doesn't hang with Madden this year IMO

I prefer it further away for passing plays, but not running plays.

Got a couple games in with the Demo last night. Really liked what i saw. I am by no means one that will dissect the footwork of a 70 rated RG and then call for the heads of any and all members of the team that created this game, but I am what I would call a sim player. Meaning, for my enjoyment I want what i play and see to mimick as close as to what I see on Sunday as i can.

That being said. Like the gameplay. Smooth is the word that comes to mind. Played on All Pro with some slider tweeks. Loved how the opposing D played. There are some tweeks to be made to sliders, but I will await for the retail to address these, no way would I put it upon a demo to nail gameplay just yet.

As far as the cosmetics..the players have never looked better. It kind of reminds me of the first time I saw the new madden on the original playstation back in the day. You know, sort of cartoony, yet utterly lifelike? I can't really explain it. I prefer this, and i think it makes the game look great.

FINALLY STAT OVERLAYS seems to be great. Saw a good bit of them...and in various scenarios. This just makes the game more alive...like you are really watching a game. I think past iterations of madden completely blew this, to the point of not even being in the game for some. This brings football to life. I wish there where even more...but at least we are seeing some and the skins of the overlays look great as well. Kudos there EA.

What I do wish they did though is can all that pregame stuff. Really...of all of us, who is gonna sit thru each one. Does it even really add to the game? A true halftime / postgame show would have gone to even greater lengths of giving us a true what you see on Sunday feel. The pregame stuff is bogus. Need the halftime stuff. Why not even flash stats at halftime. Again, just something that would draw you into the game more, which is so simple.

Lastly...with gameplay this smooth...I simply can not wait to play this game in the Broadcast cam. The walkups and ratio of player size to field in the cam is simply what we have been waiting for, for all players like me who use this camera to give us that game day feel. Yes, I know...how or why people play like this is beyond you. Please, let us spare this repetitive cliche of a statement and revel in what will be the best madden we have ever seen. Its football kids, its almost here. I am as giddy as a little gurrrrlllll.

fully agree with everyting you said.
I can say that I am excited for Madden(couldnt say that say 05).
Only player Demo twice and I am sold. I am not a Demo guy or even Play Now Guy. I really just need a few games to get use to the game and find a good slider set.
Really like NCAA, but it doesnt hang with Madden. Presentation, Graphics, Franchise & SS looks great, DPP & Traits. Sure Madden doesnt have things NCAA has(Unique Formations and Offenses, Ability to take Pictures, College Atmosphere, Teambuilder, Coaching Carousel). But I can say I am more excited for Madden

Broadcast camera is really nice. Does Madden have Coach Mode? I may have to use that mode for one of my franchises this year, because I really like the look of the camera.

Anyone notice the defense only comes out in 1 or 2 formations when you run?

# 794 RumbleStud @ 08/11/11 04:13 PM
Does anyone know if you can adjust player tendencies in the full game?

Wait can you play the demo in broadcast mode?

Also...the FG camera is the best thing to happen to this game presentation wise. Love the application to kick now, and it looks amazing. Big props EA for making a FG feel quality and not just an after thought.

I actually really liked this.

Im not a big Madden guy, always been more of an NCAA dude, but this demo wasnt bad at all.

I played default everything, so on pro and on normal game speed:

What I liked:
- graphics! Players look really good, plain and simple. Cutler and Rodgers look exactly like they do in real life. Good to see.
- stat overlays are really nice
- While the pre-game intros will probably be eventually skipped, they are a nice touch. I like them.
- Game just felt smooth to me. I cant describe this, but it just worked.

- Passing and defense were alot of fun/felt great. I loved completing a big pass to Greg Jennings or Donald Driver
- AI managed clock effectively. No dumb timeouts when they have plenty of time to run a couple of plays under 2 minutes etc.
- The new kicking camera, especially on field goals, is really nice.

What irked me a bit:
- The game does feel a bit too fast on default game speed. May have to try lowering it to slow.
- running was a bit too easy for me, but again, i was playing on pro.
- The QBs are wayyy too quick/agile. Both Cutler and Rodgers scrambling looked like Vick. Need to tone that down maybe.
- nitpicky, but the halftime show and stuff is lame.

Overall though I liked what I saw. If this gets decent reviews and most people on here seem to like it, ill probably buy it. I havent owned a Madden since 09.

I don't know how the retail build will be but for at least the demo Very Slow plays like Slow on NCAA 12.

So if nothing changes in that regard on the retail build, I will be playing on very slow this year.

# 800 gopadres @ 08/11/11 05:11 PM
Been playing Madden off and on for about 13 years. Played Madden 10 a bunch, skipped 11. I really like the presentation and gameplay of this year's game. Like others have said, as for graphics (PS3): cutscenes look fantastic, but during gameplay is another thing. I wish they could find a good balance of how much detail they put into cutscenes and closeups versus regular gameplay. Even replays with camera pulled back look blurry. Despite that though I will be buying this when it comes out.
