NCAA Football 12 News Post

Christian McLeod has confirmed the NCAA Football 12 roster glitch will be addressed in an upcoming patch. The fix for now? Are you ready for this? Delete your named roster file.

What are the problems you ask? Here are just a few comments from the OS community.

One of the NCAA Football 12 Software Engineer's posted this topic (roster related), in hopes to get some things resolved.

When you edit the name of a scrambling QB it changes them to balanced and editing a balanced QB changes them to scrambling. I noticed when i downloaded a roster with names that Denard Robinson was shown as a balanced QB so i went back to the default roster and he was back to a scrambler. So i played a game with the named roster and he attempted zero scrambles. I then played a game with the default roster and he scrambled five times in the first two drives.

I seen this last week when I downloaded Fairdale Kings rosters for the 360. It just isn't the QBs tendancy that changes, it is also the pass rusher, coverage guys, hard hitters.

Everybody tendancy description changes......

I noticed it also effected the Kick off and punt returns for the CPU. And effected the punt blocking the user. With no names, I was able to return punts back for a TD sometimes with a good enough returner.

With names, the gunners get down the field super fast like they did in NCAA 11.

With out names, the CPU was able to return punts and kick offs back for TDs on me. With names, their blocking is non existent and the cpu have a hard time making it to the 30 yard line on kick offs and on Punt returns they get 3 yards now, my gunners get down the field so fast now I be right on top of them as soon as they catch the ball.

So as it stands, no names seem to give the better game play.

Being that other players tendancies have changed, I noticed some things.

1. LBs get a lot of tips and INTs on named rosters, even when they aren't in position to do so.

2. Safeties who suppose to be heavy hitters, turn into coverage guys and Intercept passes they normally wouldn't.

3. WRs get off the line quicker on named rosters and they hit stick tackle people on Ints. I had intercepted a pass and a WR hit sticked me.

4. Thomas with his new found strength is now more likely to keep the ball on read option plays. More like 90% of the time now. This was the same way in NCAA 11 when you made a QB's strength too high.

5. DEs don't generate a pass rush on named rosters like they do on non named rosters.

Now I am REALLY glad I didn't delete the default roster. I will have that to play until they fixed the name rosters issue.

Way too many players to edit get them back to what they suppose to be tendancy wise. Which is another thing, with the work around even though they back to their correct tendancy, their ratings will be out of whack.

Good players will be made weaker, weaker bad players will be made stronger.

Same issue with no patch.

Also messed around, it changes the tendency for every single player. Im thinking that the rosters will have to be named again if this is patched.

How can they patch it to go in reverse and correct tendencies on already named rosters?

Looks like a more realistic patch is a fix to keep it from changing for future named rosters.

Just received confirmation that this issue is being looked into heavily by the guys at EA. Be patient--there is a sizable amount of testing with different design divisions to identify the issue and look into a possible fix.

It would be helpful if you can please put together a chart showing the following for all positions affected by this issue. I would then like to provide this information to EA. This would also help with making community edits if necessary. Thanks.

I'm hoping this is an easy and fast fix....

Do we know if the game is affected after 3 or 4 seasons with the new computer generated classes coming in? Or does the name rosters mess up the whole game even if we simmed/played 4+ seasons already?

well hell, what to do, what to do.

had pretty well cleared my friday night to kick in game 3 of my dynasty, and now i don't know what to do......

so let me get this straight:

-the issue was confirmed, today or yesterday that this was a bug
-we have no time frame on a fix
-no clue if the current roster file we are using will be affected by the patch
-roster makes may in fact have to take a newly created roster file and start from scratch
-a patch could take weeks + to create
-xbox takes what 3 weeks to validate a patch

what's everyones plan going forward?

There is some small hope IMO that the rosters may be salvaged due to the following: When you open up Denards player editing menus, he is listed as a scrambler there. So maybe they can patch or tune the game to where the ratings menu and roster menu show whats in the player editing menu...which is still correct when looking at players during edits.

Can we get word from EA on the upcoming patch and needing fresh post-patch roster files or if it will fix current ones????

Heres the thing with EA. All games have issues upon release. Good thing is that they can usually be patched. No issue. The NCAA series always has had some major issues.

Problem with the NCAA series is that a lot of the same things are broken year after year. The same issue shouldnt have to be patched more than once.

Where are the posts/links where EA has acknowledged this issue??

The online gaming gen is to blame. Why do a lot of testing when you can patch issues later after the customer has bascially tested it for you and paying to do it. Someone in this thread hit the nail on the head when they said that the consumer is basically signing up to work for EA when they purchase the game.

This issue I can understand not being caught during testing. But there are some issues that wouldnt make it past 20 minutes of testing and leave you shaking your head.

Looks like I'll start a dynasty with my beloved seminoles using computer generated names. Whenever EA gets this sorted I'll download the roster and probably start another dynasty with a different school. The difference in gameplay thoug with the default rosters is almost unbelievable. Arizona actually executed well timed half back screens and even popped one for a touchdown.

I'm wondering the exact same thing. I might be willing to start one of my dynasties if I knew the recruits would be ok going forward.

After playing my review copy for roughly 2 weeks before I downloaded the named rosters, I have been noticing something "off" regarding gameplay that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I simply chalked the different feel of the game up to slider tweaks I had made post named rosters. Specific issues I was noticing post named download that I did not see in my review time with the game were as follows:

-Scrambling QB's like Michigan #16 would sit in the pocket under pressure, ignore open lanes, and wait to be sacked
-CPU and Human linebackers were jumping to make ridiculous one handed INT's, and swats
-Special teams blocking for both user and CPU seemed poor
-CPU small "speed" backs were lowering the boom on my lineman and LB's
-User safeties could pick off the deep ball at will utilizing the over the shoulder catch
-It seemed as if every hit the CPU would put on my player would be a hit stick smash--gone was the tackle variety I was seeing pre roster (perhaps due to more player's being classified "hard hitters"?)

Erased named rosters, played roughly 6 games on default All American last night, and like magic the game plays like it did during my review process. It's hard to explain exactly what I was seeing, with the best description being that the CPU simply played a smarter, more realistic game.

-If a CPU QB was listed as a scrambler they would scramble at every opportunity, making split second decisions on whether or not to run from the pocket (See attached DRob video). This made playing against Michigan, Miami, and default roster Ohio State a blast--kept me on my toes.

- Linebackers no longer had 48" vertical leaps
- Special teams play had opened up. The CPU was able to break off some solid returns and I was able to do the same.
-Speed backs no longer lower the boom--the touted momentum tackling contact system looks to be back in place--if a big player hits a speed back they will react accordingly if they can not juke out of the tackle.
-User safeties were no longer able to maneuver behind CPU WR's to make the auto pick. Also this may be placebo but it seemed like DB's with their back turned toward a receiver could also no longer initiate an automatic jumping pick attempt by pressing the "Y" button. Awareness seemed to be tied to the player being able to see the ball--no more eyes in the back of their head.
-The variety of multiple hit tackle animations and broken tackle animations was greatly increased

I HIGHLY recommend deleting the rosters and waiting for the patch if you have been frustrated by any of the above issues. Very happy this issue was brought to my attention. As I said the game has felt off to me the past week, and I never thought to correlate that to the downloading of new rosters.

There has to be some issue with certain tendencies, coupled with certain players ratings, making them play a certain style that is flawed. Whether it be blocking, tackling, scrambling, route running, coverage, and INT's, the overall game simply does not play as smart as it did pre rosters.

thank you

Been saying this for the past week now and people thought I was crazy & didn't know what I was talking about.

Great Question.

If it is fine after 4 seasons, then I will press onward with my Dynasty.

SIDE NOTE: Haven't read through all 60 pages of this, but does this glitch occur only when you change a players name or does it also happen when you alter anything else about said layer (IE: change his appearance, jersey #, equipment)

props to you Gotmadskillzson, been watching out for us since release in almost every aspect of this game.

Well this is flat out GARBAGE!!! Fight Night Champion releases with freezes and other freezing issues due to online gyms. Now NCAA 12 is released and it is the same thing, ANOTHER poorly tested EA product.

I don't think any of us can correctly convey the level of disappoint I have with EA on the testing of their products. QUIT RUSHING TITLES TO MAKE DEADLINES!!! PERIOD!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

So what is everyone's gameplan on how to handle the next month or more?

We are all kinda of in limbo with no word if we must delete our dynasties, delete our rosters, and just sit and twiddle our thumbs.

So we all paid 60 bucks for a game to play dynasty and progress our teams through coaching, recruiting, etc. But we are all stuck waiting!!!

Then to make matters worse, EA removed EA Sports World spots to upload and want us to now pay for the added spots which we once had. I am SICK of the nickle and dime while we have to deal with these kinda of issues. EA should take care of their customers and offer some kinda of THANK YOU for supporting us while we continue to screw up.

Man I am ranting now, but it is like a broken record with EA. So tired of paying money upfront to beta test a product for these companies because they are to cheap and in to much of a hurry to do correct testing on their own time and money.

So the other night, my wife asks me why I am not playing the new football game I just bought. I told her that for some reason, the game lost the right feel. I just felt something was off (after downloading pastas named rosters). Something felt odd...the game seemed like it was all over the map.

I spent the last few days laughing at you guys and all of your 'bugs' and glitches you would seem to find.

So, imagine my surprise when i found this thread and deleted the named rosters and am using the defaults (was harder than i thought. Had to delete everything related to my NCAA 12).

The game 100% plays different without this bug. The players and game play like they are supposed to. Thanks to all that found this (and every other massive EA bug every year). Now we need to get EA on the path to fixing this ASAP. They have another VERY large relase looming!

# 615 DrPhibes @ 07/22/11 01:01 PM
So what if one deletes the named roster file and then has the CPU automatically name the rosters, does this glitch still take effect?

Is MANUALLY editing the names the problem that sets off the glitch, or can we still get by with having the CPU just create the names seeing as we would never have to go in and manually edit them?

no... but if you try to edit player equipment etc the glitch will effect that player

Editing is the achillies heel this year. From custom play books, to rosters, to equipment, to names.

Does this happen once editing inside a dynasty as well?

# 620 Mbalmer @ 07/22/11 01:12 PM
Why doesn't EA just patch in a way for us to change players from "Scrambler" to "Balanced" and so forth. That would be the easiest way. Then all we would have to do is take our current named rosters and make the appropriate changes.

This sounds like a lot of work, but it would be alot less then renaming all the players.

I noticed this a couple of days ago when I was going to play Stanford and they had A. Luck listed as a scrambling qb. I tried to change it but there was no way, at least that I could find, to do so.
