NCAA Football 12 News Post

Christian McLeod has confirmed the NCAA Football 12 roster glitch will be addressed in an upcoming patch. The fix for now? Are you ready for this? Delete your named roster file.

What are the problems you ask? Here are just a few comments from the OS community.

One of the NCAA Football 12 Software Engineer's posted this topic (roster related), in hopes to get some things resolved.

When you edit the name of a scrambling QB it changes them to balanced and editing a balanced QB changes them to scrambling. I noticed when i downloaded a roster with names that Denard Robinson was shown as a balanced QB so i went back to the default roster and he was back to a scrambler. So i played a game with the named roster and he attempted zero scrambles. I then played a game with the default roster and he scrambled five times in the first two drives.

I seen this last week when I downloaded Fairdale Kings rosters for the 360. It just isn't the QBs tendancy that changes, it is also the pass rusher, coverage guys, hard hitters.

Everybody tendancy description changes......

I noticed it also effected the Kick off and punt returns for the CPU. And effected the punt blocking the user. With no names, I was able to return punts back for a TD sometimes with a good enough returner.

With names, the gunners get down the field super fast like they did in NCAA 11.

With out names, the CPU was able to return punts and kick offs back for TDs on me. With names, their blocking is non existent and the cpu have a hard time making it to the 30 yard line on kick offs and on Punt returns they get 3 yards now, my gunners get down the field so fast now I be right on top of them as soon as they catch the ball.

So as it stands, no names seem to give the better game play.

Being that other players tendancies have changed, I noticed some things.

1. LBs get a lot of tips and INTs on named rosters, even when they aren't in position to do so.

2. Safeties who suppose to be heavy hitters, turn into coverage guys and Intercept passes they normally wouldn't.

3. WRs get off the line quicker on named rosters and they hit stick tackle people on Ints. I had intercepted a pass and a WR hit sticked me.

4. Thomas with his new found strength is now more likely to keep the ball on read option plays. More like 90% of the time now. This was the same way in NCAA 11 when you made a QB's strength too high.

5. DEs don't generate a pass rush on named rosters like they do on non named rosters.

Now I am REALLY glad I didn't delete the default roster. I will have that to play until they fixed the name rosters issue.

Way too many players to edit get them back to what they suppose to be tendancy wise. Which is another thing, with the work around even though they back to their correct tendancy, their ratings will be out of whack.

Good players will be made weaker, weaker bad players will be made stronger.

Same issue with no patch.

Also messed around, it changes the tendency for every single player. Im thinking that the rosters will have to be named again if this is patched.

How can they patch it to go in reverse and correct tendencies on already named rosters?

Looks like a more realistic patch is a fix to keep it from changing for future named rosters.

Just received confirmation that this issue is being looked into heavily by the guys at EA. Be patient--there is a sizable amount of testing with different design divisions to identify the issue and look into a possible fix.

It would be helpful if you can please put together a chart showing the following for all positions affected by this issue. I would then like to provide this information to EA. This would also help with making community edits if necessary. Thanks.

Wow, that's crazy. If you so much as change a players' left wristband, his entire way of playing on the field will change. LMAO!!!!

After playing my review copy for roughly 2 weeks before I downloaded the named rosters, I have been noticing something "off" regarding gameplay that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I simply chalked the different feel of the game up to slider tweaks I had made post named rosters. Specific issues I was noticing post named download that I did not see in my review time with the game were as follows:

-Scrambling QB's like Michigan #16 would sit in the pocket under pressure, ignore open lanes, and wait to be sacked
-CPU and Human linebackers were jumping to make ridiculous one handed INT's, and swats
-Special teams blocking for both user and CPU seemed poor
-CPU small "speed" backs were lowering the boom on my lineman and LB's
-User safeties could pick off the deep ball at will utilizing the over the shoulder catch
-It seemed as if every hit the CPU would put on my player would be a hit stick smash--gone was the tackle variety I was seeing pre roster (perhaps due to more player's being classified "hard hitters"?)

Erased named rosters, played roughly 6 games on default All American last night, and like magic the game plays like it did during my review process. It's hard to explain exactly what I was seeing, with the best description being that the CPU simply played a smarter, more realistic game.

-If a CPU QB was listed as a scrambler they would scramble at every opportunity, making split second decisions on whether or not to run from the pocket (See attached DRob video). This made playing against Michigan, Miami, and default roster Ohio State a blast--kept me on my toes.

- Linebackers no longer had 48" vertical leaps
- Special teams play had opened up. The CPU was able to break off some solid returns and I was able to do the same.
-Speed backs no longer lower the boom--the touted momentum tackling contact system looks to be back in place--if a big player hits a speed back they will react accordingly if they can not juke out of the tackle.
-User safeties were no longer able to maneuver behind CPU WR's to make the auto pick. Also this may be placebo but it seemed like DB's with their back turned toward a receiver could also no longer initiate an automatic jumping pick attempt by pressing the "Y" button. Awareness seemed to be tied to the player being able to see the ball--no more eyes in the back of their head.
-The variety of multiple hit tackle animations and broken tackle animations was greatly increased

I HIGHLY recommend deleting the rosters and waiting for the patch if you have been frustrated by any of the above issues. Very happy this issue was brought to my attention. As I said the game has felt off to me the past week, and I never thought to correlate that to the downloading of new rosters.

There has to be some issue with certain tendencies, coupled with certain players ratings, making them play a certain style that is flawed. Whether it be blocking, tackling, scrambling, route running, coverage, and INT's, the overall game simply does not play as smart as it did pre rosters.

See, glad you see the issue now.

Well....I will restart my dynasty tonight with the default rosters. And let them name them with fictional names. No biggie at all.

Although I love having real names......by year 4 most of them that I know are gone anyway and the game is full of fictional recruits.

Far from a game breaker for me.

Then a few months from now I will DL a new named roster.

This game out of the box is too good to shelve over this.

Same here. I don't want to wait a month to dive into and enjoy CC and Dynasty. I can live with the current players being askew if new recruits (players I will spend more time with throughout dynasty anyway) can be fixed with the patch without me having to restart a dynasty.

So basically if we want teams to play like they should we need to use the default EA roster with numbers and just have them autoname?

Yeah I know that's what I was thinking. Was this an issue only associated with this year, or has this been an ongoing problem with NCAA titles and we just hadn't caught it?

Sounds crazy, but I'm sure in the Online Age where we can get things immediately, most of us don't spend a lot of time playing with the unedited, not-named EA rosters, so maybe this was always a problem. Anyway, the past is the past, and hopefully EA learns from this problem that having a microscopic eye during testing is very important. Things like this should not go unnoticed, since edited rosters are used by almost every NCAA player.

I'd rather EA take their time and make a comprehensive patch than just issue a band-aid patch that doesn't effectively fix many of the bugs or creates new ones. Also hopefully that restriction on EA sports World media will be lifted.

So let me get this straight. Auto generated names and manual equipment changes will jack the game up? In dynasty mode as well.

I dont have any downloaded name rosters, only auto generated. I also edit equipment heavily. You all are saying my tendencies are jacked up now correct?

I'm gonna go and say i'm about 85% sure this was an issue in past NCAA games, but with them tuning and playing with the on the field gameplay this year we only now noticed, especially since now QB's take off and scramble.

Auto-generate will NOT affect the tendencies, HOWEVER, editing anything, even somethinh small like a wristband will change the tendency.

Since OD freezes left and right, im going to play offline with auto generated names and noy edit recruits to battle this bug.

I also noticed this is the 1st year the NCAA football game actually saved a default roster file on your HDD as well. It didn't do that with NCAA 11, 10, 9, 8

# 635 Phobia @ 07/22/11 01:50 PM
Bottom line is this is stupid and should of been caught by a testing team. This is NOT a random bug that happens every once in a while. This happens on ALL copies at the exact same point.

# 636 BOSKY! @ 07/22/11 01:50 PM
From what I've experienced with other patches, I should be able to instal this patch and continue my season. Can anyone confirm that this is generally the status quo?

If not I'll just stop my dynasty now and start when the patch comes out.

# 637 RogueHominid @ 07/22/11 01:54 PM
Okay, I'm late to this party. Can someone offer a brief digest of what exactly this roster bug changes about the game? So far I have gathered:

-changing QBs tendencies
-changing DBs tendencies
-enabling extra-fast coverage teams

I can more or less live with these three since they will be irrelevant for many of the game's players after year one, and certainly after year two. What else that's major is affected by this?

# 638 teebee @ 07/22/11 01:54 PM
One thing though, can Left handed batters hit homers?

# 639 Wavebird99 @ 07/22/11 01:56 PM
When is a realistic time to expect a patch? Next month?

Not always the standard quo.
