Madden NFL 11 News Post

I recentely sat down for a talk with FBGRatings.com's Dan Berens to discuss his site's vision and what's going on over there today. The site is currently working on getting accurate ratings for every player using real hard data converted into the Madden ratings universe. Dan claims that when these numbers are plugged into the game, it plays much better and much closer to real life. Check out the interview below and also check out Dan's website to see what he's got going on!

so if they aren't based off of stats or performance then why will player ratings change once in season? do scouting reports change during the season?

Let's have a lesson in logic, shall we?

1. No FBG ratings are based on statistics.
2. Ratings change during the season.
3. Ratings are based upon scouting data.

4. ???

Is the answer to the logic above:
A. Stupid questions deserve stupid answers
B. People don't read the forums and thus CONTINUE to ask stupid questions
C. Scouting data changes throughout a season
D. Everybody is jealous of the GB Packers 13 NFL titles

Thoughts?

You get so many "stupid questions" because this thread should be in the roster sub forum where only people genuinely interested in this work would see the updates for the most part.

Personally I'd start a new thread in the roster forum so that you've got control of the OP and can maintain a FAQ.

Continue to update this news thread with your progress here in the main Madden forum and you can expect plenty more "stupid questions" to come

I had no control where the moderator placed the thread. They can move it if they wish though.

Glancing at the OP, this is a thread about an interview, not about the running progress of the project, like I said you could always start a new thread or continue to update this one (if they won't move it). Either way that's why you are getting Some of the questions you are getting, and it will only get worse as release approaches, traffic spikes, and the thread continues to get longer.

Technically though, this is not a roster thread. I don't produce rosters. It is about the website in general. The thread was regarding the interview about the site and to peak interest and answer questions. What causes an inconvenience is when many, many questions have already been answered and keep coming up. I feel like I have been good enough to answer them when they come up, but it gets old to keep hearing the same old thing.

so in your honest opinion, nate washington is a better receiver than reggie wayne, hakeem nicks, miles austin, vincent jackson, brandon marshall, sidney rice, dwayne bowe, etc.?

# 389 micahmcd10 @ 08/07/11 11:38 PM
or i guess i should say according to your scouting information?

According to the data I have that can correlate to a Madden rating, then yes, his INDIVIDUAL attributes would verify that statement. Keep in mind that injuries also affect the OVR rating for some of those players you listed.

# 391 micahmcd10 @ 08/08/11 02:26 AM
so how do you factor injuries into the overall rating? just lower their individual attributes if they have been injured a lot? if so why not leave their individual attributes alone and lower the injury attribute. just because a player has an injury history doesn't diminish their talent. if this has already been addressed my apologies.

I share your sentiment for the "injuries don't diminish talent" statement. However, I keep the raw individual attributes the same, but lower the OVR by means of other attributes. Injury history and proneness to injury is also included in all of this data.

I hate to say it but you're going to continue to get "stupid questions" until you make a FAQ page somewhere - whether it be on your website, on the first page of this thread (by editing your first post in the thread), or by making a totally new thread. It is very unreasonable, based on the size of this thread, to expect every person to read it in its entirety.

I have no desire whatsoever to create a FAQ page. I don't know about anyone else here, but when I see a topic that I find interesting in these forums, I read the forum in it's entirety first to get some idea on the discourse of the topic. Does that make me unreasonable?

Anyway, let's get back on topic please.

Hey Dan,

I know this may sound crazy, but I am new to the Madden gaming world.. I haven't played Madden since 2004.. I am a huge basketball guy both gaming and real life... I also watch football, but never got in to Madden. That is until this year!

Anyway, I wanted to ask you a few questions and I hope I'm not bothering you...

1. I Love the way you put together your data for the ratings.. Will there be a roster download for the Xbox 360 or are we inputting them on our own in Madden 12?

2. On Your website I see that the players are updated ratings wise.. Are the current as of this off season or are they based on last years numbers? how are the rookies rated data wise?

3. Will the Depth Charts on your website be updated before the season?

Thanks Dan, Like I said Great Job on the ratings...

Why is Osi Umenyiora's overall so low? Even lower than Jason Pierre-Paul's.

overalls dont matter to this point, dan will update those as the season draws closer. position specific skills are what matter and they are all backed up by his detailed scouting data.

1. For this year you will have to put them in on your own. I am still sorting some things out, so it will be another year.

2. First of all, I don't use statistics. I use scouting data only, which is updated weekly. The OVR rating includes injuries like you see in the game. So, all ratings are updated as of late June, 2011.

3. I am hoping to get to depth charts prior to week one of the regular season.

His OVR is low because of his hip surgery during the offseason. Should be back up if he reports to camp. And yes, holding out does also affect the OVR because a player is not getting his work in.

Right now injuries are what is affecting the OVR rating the most. Like you say, look at the position-specific skills to get the best idea on how your players will be rated at this point.
