Madden NFL 11 News Post

I recentely sat down for a talk with FBGRatings.com's Dan Berens to discuss his site's vision and what's going on over there today. The site is currently working on getting accurate ratings for every player using real hard data converted into the Madden ratings universe. Dan claims that when these numbers are plugged into the game, it plays much better and much closer to real life. Check out the interview below and also check out Dan's website to see what he's got going on!

It would be nice if someone else could implement the ratings and then upload a roster here on OS. I would, but I don't know how.

He said the positions are what the players were coming out of college. He will change it when the team depth charts become available/before week 1.

The main thing holding it back from full-on rosters is some legal stuff I am dealing with regarding copyrights for the site and ratings...just to make you all aware of that.

All players are currently listed at their draft positions. These will be changed this week.

Anxiously awaiting seeing the position changes, as I follow your ratings and if it is OK with you, I would like to start a thread when Madden 12 is released, so we here at OS, may team together and get your ratings in to a roster update for the XBOX 360? I figure it would save you the time, in having to do it, and with 3-4 dedicated members maybe we can have this knocked out in a 1-2 weeks...

Just let me know if I can help at all and if this would be OK,

The only issue I foresee is the copyright battle I am going through right now. I will have to check if I can allow a mass file to be downloaded without the copyright protection I am seeking. If fact, until I get that stuff signed off on, I may even have to lock the site again. I'll keep you all posted on what happens with that.

I wouldn't have an issue if not for the mass distribution being done OUTSIDE of my site. THAT, I know, will cause some issues for me.

# 407 pjt8405 @ 08/10/11 10:48 PM
Well hopefully the copyright issue is resolved as I would hate for the site to be locked as just looking over it the past few days and seeing the Madden 12 initial ratings, there is a huge advantage to using your ratings as I know it will enhance game play.

Please keep us posted on what's going on with the site, and I will continue to offer any help you need in continuing the rating info if you need it.

I will call my atty this week and let you know for sure. I don't see why it would be an issue, especially if you all offer it for free. I just have to cover my bases here. I will give you an answer when I find out.

Ok Thanks... Keep up the great work on your end as well, everything I have seen so far is so cool and will definitely help revive madden gamers once/if we are able to implement the ratings.

OK guys another update here.

The recent news of the change to the calculation formula for the OVR rating is going to set me back a bit. Because the game is released so close to the start of the season, I will have no time to get the OVR ratings calculated in time for week 1. I guess EA just can't keep things status quo over there, so it ends up hurting the progress and the process. It will be even worse if I come to find that the range for attributes has increased from 12-99 to 0-99 or 0-100 as many calculations will have to be re-figured.

# 411 pjt8405 @ 08/11/11 08:52 PM
Well that is a bummer, but hopefully they didn't change it too much as far as calculating the overall rating, and they kept the scale the same.. It's not the end of the world as it will be well worth the wait in the end.

If you need any help at all, just let me know....

Even if they change one thing, it still screws the pooch. Let's just hope the scale is the same. Otherwise, this thing won't be up until Madden 13.

Im guessing you know the old formula right?

So wouldn't it be easy to test if the formulas have changed by using the rosters ESPN has posted up so far? And seeing if the calculated ovrs using the old formula match the ones for this year...

# 414 xblake16x @ 08/12/11 12:19 AM
I feel like you should totally disregard the OVR rating and just set the specific ratings to what they are... whatever OVR comes to fruition is that player's overall.

Part of the reason I'm intrigued by your roster creation is the hard facts that you use... creating a player to fit a certain OVR is what EA does

Dcebb, what if they change the scale and ratings every year?? I would just keep the attributes there and discard the overall.

I'm almost certain I read a post from adembroski saying that they tweak the OVR formula every year.

Even if that's the case though it and it sets you back, as long as the legal issues are taken care of, people could still put your *base* ratings into a roster file for download, correct? The OVRs might not be perfect, but at least the individual players would be rated as they really are, right?

I know all of the formulas from last year, yes. After looking at some of the ratings from this year via ESPN, they have definitely changed the formulas.

I cannot do that as the OVR is imperative to successful ratings in this system. Unlike EAs ratings, the OVR actually matters.

If they change the scale, then I will have to re-scale every player. If they do it every year, then every year I have to recalculate. It's just part of the burden of doing accurate ratings for the game. I cannot discard the OVR rating.

Incorrect. The OVR actually plays a huge part in determining some of the other data. I'm not going to get into why and how, but it is very important that they add up. So I must have the OVR ratings match up. This will delay things significantly.
