Madden NFL 11 News Post

I recentely sat down for a talk with FBGRatings.com's Dan Berens to discuss his site's vision and what's going on over there today. The site is currently working on getting accurate ratings for every player using real hard data converted into the Madden ratings universe. Dan claims that when these numbers are plugged into the game, it plays much better and much closer to real life. Check out the interview below and also check out Dan's website to see what he's got going on!

Knowing that certainly makes sense out of the observable fact that super fast corners who weren't necessarily great cover guys could be great cover guys in the game, and so on down the line.
It's not all that shocking really...I figured long ago that something was up when I realized that other factors were affecting attributes. And SPD isn't the only attribute that affects other attributes. ACC can affect POW and so on. It's quite crazy!

I've just about read this whole thread, I'm waiting on this game now to use your ratings. Can't wait to see how the game feels and plays. Is their a specific game speed, or game difficulty to play this on?

I recommend slow speed. As for slider settings, I just use custom based on playing games on my own.

Any chance you would ever do something like this for NCAA it would be a major task but worth it.

I have a colleague that is considering doing it for NCAA.

Sorry if its been asked already but when and how do you expect these rosters to drop for 12? A week after release? A month? Download from site, then upload? Thanks..

The rest of the attributes will be up this week. Then, all positions will be updated according to NFL depth charts by the first week of the preseason. Jersey numbers will also be added at that time as well as getting the new Ht and Wt data for each player. Then, by week one of the regular season, all the ratings will be adjusted to equal their OVR ratings and adjusted to mimic happenings of the preseason.

As of right now, you do not DL the rosters, but rather, are to edit them in game on your own. I am working on some ways to get rosters for people for Madden 13.

Hey, I have been following this thread for awhile now and I love what I'm seeing. Great work! I read a few posts back that you recommend playing on slow speed. My question is do you recommend adjusting the speed threshold as well?

YES! That is a great point! I won't know exactly what to put it at this year until I get Madden 12, but you will want to do that once I figure out how this year's engine will work.

Perhaps this has been addressed, but what happens when system generated rookies come in? It seems to me having players with two completely separate rating systems could make one group stand out over the other.

The only issue will be with raw attibutes because they were determined using the data distribution from the hard data. AGI ratings that are usually through the roof are considerably lower. All other ratings are on par with what Madden uses.

great work for the most part!! except how is nate washington rated a 90? and todd heap is rated the same as antonio gates and tony gonzalez? and underacheiving nate clements rate higher than asante samuel or champ bailey? thanks!!!!

I don't think he has set the Overall ratings yet.

haha im just going off what it says on his site. also i was noticing why does almost every receiver have route running and release in the 90s yet their spectacular catch rating and catch in traffic rating are in the 60s or 70s? is every receiver that great of a route runner but not so great at the other attributes? just asking for some clarification! thanks

Individual ratings do not always lead to performance. Ratings in Madden are based on individual attributes, not team attributes. And as well all know, individuals do not make success in the NFL because it is the ultimate team sport. Therefore, do not rely on numbers or stats, but rather, how the player grades out according to scouts. That is the philosophy used here.

No, these are set as of right now. They will change week to week though and keep in mind that injuries affect the OVR rating.

WRs run the most routes of any player on the field. Therefore, most of them are very good, technical route runners as it is imperative to get open in the NFL. However, not every WR is great at catching under duress. In fact, I would argue that TEs, who are often going over the middle facing LBs and S's are some of the best receivers at making a catch while under duress.

so how does on-field performance factor in these ratings? no way nate washington should be a 90. games aren't played in college scouting reports.

TO higher OVR and SPC than Larry Fitz?

AD rated lower than 3 other RBs?

1. On-field performance plays a very large role. Look at Aaron Rodgers for an example.

2. These are not based on college scouting data. Only pro scouting data is used except for incoming rookies.

3. The attributes that add up to an overall rating are based on factors that are measurable in a game, and some that are not. Hence, you have to rely on factors from on the field directly and some that cannot be qualified or quantified during a game.

4. The OVR rating is a combination of all factors for each attribute, so as for Nate Washington's rating we will simply have to agree to disagree.

Not everyone is going to agree with how I rate players, but to me, the system works. You can choose to use them, or disregard them if you wish...or you can just edit all the players on your own.

Well I want your system to work, but if AD is as good of a RB as Nate Washington the receiver... well...
