When you have no competition, what you see is what you get. They have the name and the NFL license.. The majority will buy it no matter what including myself. I'm a sucker and need a yearly football game. I'm sure a lot of us are in the same boat. But lets be honest here, what incentive to they have to fine tune the game? I mean the first 2 words in the tagline for this season are "Simpler. Quicker." .. They weren't lying.
I thought Madden 10 was a step in the right direction but it seems like they just rushed this one out to begin work on Madden 12. The MLB The Show series has spoiled me on what I think next generation presentation should look like. The look, the feel of that game, the fact that someone could walk in and stare at the TV for 5 minutes without realizing it's a video game... That's what I expect. Graphic wise, this game doesn't look any different than Madden 09 and from the demo, it doesn't play anywhere near as solid as NCAA 11.
After playing the demo adusting the speed to normal, using gameflow and using the strategy pad; I have to say the videos don't do Madden 11 any justice. This game is much better than I expected and I am officially "uber" excited for my retail copy.
Locomotion (it feels just right, not over or under done on normal speed).
Gameflow (very cool, and perfect for those who just want to move from play to play).
Coordinator (not annoying as expected, pretty immersive actually).
Transititions from play to play much better (the game just flows better from down to down).
Commentators (again better when actually playing, Gus surprised me a few times with his exhuberance).
*Another plus for me was how nicely commentary went from play to a replay; and so far each replay was nicely done.
*I didn't have many penalties, but there was a nice replay as the referee was calling the penalty, replay was showing it while you chose to accept or decline.
These are just a few of my impressions and I cannot wait to play more.
Wow, I mentioned ian cumming in a tweet and bashed the strategy pad and I realized about 15 minutes later I wasn't following him. I go to follow him and it says he blocked me from following him. Really?
Okay people are very confused about this so I want people to realize what GameFlow and GamePlan mean.
GamePlan - Group of plays you will compile that CAN be used as a part of GameFlow. This group of plays is displayed as "My GamePlan" instead of Ask Madden on the playcall screen. They have completely removed "Ask Madden" from Madden NFL 2011. [Weird that a game named after Madden has such little images of him and very little of his philosophies.. I doubt he likes how blocking works in this game.. probably would be his highest priority.] The exact plays that will show up in the "My GamePlan" group will be taken from your plays setup on the GamePlan screen for the CURRENT SITUATION. If it's 3rd and 3.. You'll have all your 3rd and 3 plays shown.. You'll be able to select from them..
GameFlow - GameFlow uses the group of plays set by default or by your personal GamePlan to call your plays. It will call plays for you, therefore skipping the playcall screen.. removing time wasted at the play call screen.. meaning shorter games. The GameFlow feature will pick your plays based on how high you have certain plays rated for the current situation. You have no guarantee on what play will be called. Only that it is in the list of 15 you have set for that situation.

"Of course, one thing to be clear on is that everything is optional. If you want to play without GameFlow you can. You can choose to play with the conventional play call screen (old style play call screen that's been around since the advent of football gaming). You can choose to turn off coordinator audio, subtitles, and strategy pad. Pretty much everything is an option."
Looks like everyone can relax just like SB said in the final version. The awful strategy pad can be turned off.
You can't turn it off. The graphic is only able to be turned off.
"Why panic over a preplay button change, esp calling it 'clunky'? Y+UP is now UP+UP Does that seem clunkier? Give it a try." -Ian Cummings via Twitter
"Why did we change to strategy pad? For usability. Too many inconsistent buttons before...people would get 'stuck' and they couldn't snap it." -Ian Cummings via Twitter
"Strategy Pad has a steep learning curve. And in the demo, yes, the CPU snaps quickly, so it will be tough to adjust. Have patience." -Ian Cummings via Twitter
I like it so far. The strategy pad isn't an issue with me, but I am not a fan of the Gameflow very much. By that I mean the audio from the coordinator. I turned it off. And on offense, I use the old style of playcalling anyways. So I use Gameflow about half the time. The only thing that bothers me is the kicking. I would rather use the stick to kick instead of the A button
Nope, all I said was "no one likes the strategy pad, stop lying to yourselves you guys #failed."
I'd have blocked you too. With hundreds upon hundreds of people tweeting him today with positive and negative opinions on every aspect of the game, you insulted him. What did you expect?
I just hope they issue a patch for the strategy pad to allow you to go back to the old way.
I doubt that can be patched unless they address how soon the CPU snaps the ball. That's really the issue to me. I thought it might be because of the accelerated clock but I turned it off and the CPU still snaps very quickly. I can deal with the control scheme. It's more on the side of no time between getting to the line and then the snap.
Every last one of you will buy the game stop downing Madden ive been playing madden since 1992 n havent missed one to date... U guys its a demo remember that!!!! The real game will be much better. Everyone wanted a more realistic football game well in my eyes this is as real as it gets!!! Ugot gameplan gameflow etc etc what u think head coaches n coaching staffs do every week gameplan!! Hello i think it's great for people who do Franchises just my opinion Go Fins 2010!!!!!
Based on the demo this is better than last year's Madden .. which was pretty good.
You definitely notice the difference with Locomotion and Gameflow is a perfect addition.
The Jets were bringing the heat on a regular basis like they do in real life.
Madden 11 > Madden 10 > all the Madden's before it. Don't believe me? Play Madden 2005 again.
I downloaded it this morning and I'm not at all pleased, frankly. I especially disliked the return to the old three-button press kick meter and hyping it like it's an improvement. I don't like the gameflow feature at all because it takes the game out of the player's hand and basically becomes CPU vs CPU. I guess that's fine if you're a button-smasher but I like to choose my own plays and execute them, so I won't be using it.

I forgot to mention one thing
Strategy Pad, I have to say to have so streamlined has made it so easy to use, it took a few seconds to adjust to and I was making all adjustments in seconds.
Well, hope you guys are enjoying the demo and football games again. For the next couple of months I stay off the Madden/NCAA boards, because it gets a little crazy. I will see you on the other boards.
Best Madden game I have ever played. << It's as simple as that
I completely agree. Gus brings so much excitement to the game and I can't wait for August 10th. The strategy pad took me 3 games and now I'm used to it and really don't have anything to gripe about. I'm loving Madden 11 so far.
