The EA Blog says it's totally optional and can be turned off. I'd say yes it's in the retail. Stranger things have happened though so I guess we'll see what someone with the game says.
In any case :Strategy Pad (That looks to be optional) being called Gamekiller, catastrophic ..etc..
Come on guys...
Skyboxer, you are just being counterproductive here man. This thread is for impressions and quite frankly if people want to describe the strategy pad as a gamekiller (for the demo mind you) then let them. Gameflow IS the big feature this year as well and from the looks of it, it's not really needed at all. If the Jordan feature is useless in NBA2K or Real Time Presentation was 'not worth it' in The Show, we'd hear the same thing.
Is there an official time for the Demo to be availible on The Playstation Network? Why doesn't Sony just release it at or around the same time Microsoft does?
Ok so far the commentary sounds robotic to me and not natural. And are you allowed to hear the gameflow play calling in the headset in the demo ???? I haven't heard a thing called and this is a brand new headset.
I can already tell you that the strategy pad for Defense going to be a problem. Unless you are very quick thinker and have quick hands. You will not be able to adjust hardly any postion like shifting LBers are DBs before the AI snaps the ball. You just don't have time do that. But with the offense it is not so bad. The D is the main problem with Strategy. But other then that the game is good is so far. I hope EA will patch the Strategy problem and make easier to do alignment setup on D.
Of course, one thing to be clear on is that everything is optional. If you want to play without GameFlow you can. You can choose to play with the conventional play call screen (old style play call screen that's been around since the advent of football gaming). You can choose to turn off coordinator audio, subtitles, and strategy pad. Pretty much everything is an option.
I just found this at the end of a blog on ea's madden 11 site. It was posted april 28th by john taylor about gameflow and gameplanning. I would hope that if there gona post that its an option in there blog than that they would stay true to that. For me that is the only thing i was worried about was the strategy pad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is brutal!!!!!! Even my 9yr old son doesnt like it n i thought that was the crowd they were going for. Anyway lets just hope that the " PAD" is n OPTION. Cant wait to play online!!!! Of course if u can turn the "PAD" OFF

Looks like everyone can relax just like SB said in the final version. The awful strategy pad can be turned off.
I wouldn't hold my breath long. Things could have changed since that blog. Unless if someone with the full game can confirm that for us. For now I still say that there is no option to turn it off. I could be wrong tho. But we will see.
Anyone else having an issue with the kicking? It never seems to register my third button press for accuracy, and thus the little slider goes right past it and all my kicks go in random directions. I think Adam Vinatieri took out three fans and a popcorn vender during my first game, lol.

I've found out that the coach in the headset will not saying nothing if you are in a party with friends. I guess that's the way it works. So if you are in aparty then you will not here nothing until you leave. Then you should hear something loud and clear. I did and it hurt my ear the first time I herd it.

i just got tha full game a couple days ago. There's good news and bad news about that option...YES you can turn the strategy pad off, BUT all that does is take tha icon off tha screen when you play, but it doesn't change tha controls back to tha old way.
I'm with others, I have no idea why after all these years they decided to change tha way you call pre-snap adjustments. I've played about a dozen games since getting tha game and like others have said you do start to get used to it, but it just doesn't "flow" as easy as tha old way does.(if that makes sense)
Gameflow DOES make the game faster but I dont like how i dont really have a choice in what play is picked. From earlier screenshots i was under the impression that I would get a choice of 3 plays but with the coordinator colling the shots its more like "player mode" vs the coach/player mode we grown up on.
I just found this in the blog about gameflow:
Another key note about gameplans is that you can use them with or without GameFlow. Let's say you want to play with the old style play-calling screen. If you do, the "Ask Madden" option is actually totally replaced with "My Gameplan", which then gives you all your pre-planned plays right there for you in each game situation.
This sounds like it would give you the choices of the plays.
Probably my favorite thing was after i scored a TD with the Colts and kicked off i tackled the kick returner and after one of my players wass falling two oothers who all were going there fell as well.

This could be huge if there's any kind of lag online.

You can turn off the icon that blocks the screen (this is a must because can't see the action especially on the defensive side of the ball) but you still have to use the D-pad to make the adjustments.
The Strategy pad and kick meter are let downs for me so far. I'm still giving gameflow a chance. I'm going to set it like the old style in letting me chose my playbook, and the gameflow in place of "ask madden" If that is the case then my situational plays will show up there and that would be awesome. Time to do some research if this is in fact possible.
I'm not in a party and I still can't hear crap through the headset. And yes the whole new kicking thing is ODD. Completely messes up my FG's and Punts. And I don't like the way the camera zooms so far out when you passing, makes the players look like ants.
