That was exactly the feeling I got. Aside from that, I actually think the gameflow/gameplan feature is fine. Gameplanning to me is a good idea and it's realistic. Besides, you can turn it off if you want.
Yeah, I actually like Gameplan. I was shocked to see that it was not situational though. Either way, it doesn't matter. I still think it adds realism.
My initial response after 1 game:
- The decision to map everything to the D-pad is catastrophic. I just don't understand the decision made here.
- Gameflow seems useless. I like picking my plays quite frankly - and I would fire my OC based on some of the calls he was making [using Gameflow].
- The game seems smooth, attractive, functional .... and extremely BORING. I can't really articulate it as to why - but I have been feeling this way about Madden for the last 3 years. I really think they need a new approach.
- To steal a thought from a previous poster - I just don't understand what the team spent all their time doing in the last year. Gameflow and improved locomotion" just doesn't seem like enough.
- I will always believe that fictional play by play announcers[with real voice actors] will always be better than real announcers. I love Gus - but he does nothing for me here.
- NCAA takes the crown this year.
I liked the NCAA 11 Demo better, but the Madden demo is still pretty good. I had an issue with the crowd being silent before every snap, and I really hate that everything pre-snap is mapped to the D-Pad now. Hopefully this can be changed. The gameflow thing is pretty cool, but I can honestly say I see myself never, ever using that. Will be good though for people like my wife who like to play but don't really know which plays to pick. The game will be pretty good.

Well I sure am happy people don't overstate the hell out of things in here.
Of course, one thing to be clear on is that everything is optional. If you want to play without GameFlow you can. You can choose to play with the conventional play call screen (old style play call screen that's been around since the advent of football gaming). You can choose to turn off coordinator audio, subtitles, and strategy pad. Pretty much everything is an option.
This is probably the best part of that blog, nicely reminded. Much prefer the traditional method, been using that long it's just so instinctive now.
Yeah, I think people are crapping prematurely on Madden. The strategy pad warrants the criticism, but the demo has only been out a couple hours lol. How can you declare that NCAA blows this out of the water so fast?
i'm wondering how you can compare a demo version to a retail version. the ncaa demo had all sorts of animation and frame rate issues. yet i don't see any complaints about this in the forums, so they obviously fixed them. i always try not to judge a demo too harshly because i know it's an old build.
can't wait for the guys at sony to wake up and upload this thing so i can try it out.
I know better than to think the retail is loads different than the demo, demo should be giving us a pretty good idea what the retail version is minus a few kinks fixed.
I hope the blog is correct, many times not though. Anyone confirm you can turn off pad in the retail version?

The EA Blog says it's totally optional and can be turned off. I'd say yes it's in the retail. Stranger things have happened though so I guess we'll see what someone with the game says.
In any case :Strategy Pad (That looks to be optional) being called Gamekiller, catastrophic ..etc..
whats with the dead silent crowd before every snap??will it be fixed in the retail version?
I've only got 2 complaints so far with it myself.
#1 the dead silent crowd before the snap is a bit annoying. I guess they're trying to let you hear the QB calling audibles and what not, but I'm pretty sure it's not like that in real life. I definitely like the crowd better in NCAA, at least in the final version. NFL stadiums can be rocking, but Madden has never really given you that "home field advantage" feel. I wish it would.
#2 is the defensive strategy. I HATE using the d-pad, so far at least. It takes much longer than the old way and a lot of times, you can't even change the DB's and the dline by the time the ball is snapped. I'm hoping either they give you the option to go back to the old way of doing it, or at least give you some more time to do it.
That said, I think that the final game will be much better. I can't wait! only 2 weeks away!

Well the crowd before snap silence is just in the demo. The final version the crowd will be going and going like the energizer bunny. LOL You have nothing to worry about in the final version.
Gameflow DOES make the game faster but I dont like how i dont really have a choice in what play is picked. From earlier screenshots i was under the impression that I would get a choice of 3 plays but with the coordinator colling the shots its more like "player mode" vs the coach/player mode we grown up on.
Game speed is nice but could be slowed down just a bit.
When the ball carrier is running horizontally he never really faces the sideline.
Presentation is excellent. Gus Johnson make the game dramtic in those clutch situations. I noticed that much of the chain gang and TD confimation is taken out except for when it is actually close. I love how they put replays in there hope it is availible in online games as well. I hate to see a big play and not being able to see it until after the game is over (unless you forget or mercy/concede).
I havent seen many broken tackles but it seems like there are right on target with execution. Want to see how they are with a better RB. Colts/Jets dont have that great of a RB. They most definitely put skill back in skill players. Its great to see a WR beat someone deep. M10 you only seen that with a handful of WR or man coverage.
Overall I am satisfied with the demo except gameflow. If the Disc has the 3 play option I would use it more but I think ill stick with classic playcalling unless they can upgrade gameflow with a patch.
Well, Gus is an absolute improvement.... however, man is really excited - Overly IMO. Sounds unnatural and forced rather than a typical broadcast ebb and flow, back and forth you would hear on TV. Even in play by play broadcasts on TV, announcers are not that over the top for all plays..... Gameflow is also not all it is cracked up to be either. Looks like I made the right choice in buying NCAA11 this year

Come on guys...
The formation and personel on offense dictates how you adjust on D, you don't know much prenap to work with so you have to adjust at the line. Generic defense doesn't work in Madden in a good user vs user game. You gotta be able to adjust otherwise offense is way to easy. IMO offense has always been way too easy. The pad is a buzzkill for me.
Phyched if its optional in retail though.
