"BACKBREAKER™ is a new, revolutionary football experience that takes you straight onto the field. Breakthrough euphoria tackles, non-canned animation, and stunning on-field graphics make BACKBREAKER™ the first truly live football game."
That could be, but don't you think the OL needs to be beefed up a little? I have had games mostly against indy where they do really well - it's also the limited time it's only 4min of gameplay. But personally I feel like better OL performance would tremendously improve the gameplay.
The playbook's aren't that bad in the demo though either as far as numbers.
In the NFL most teams have 60-70 plays right (for a single game)...so it's kind of around that (yet I do feel limited compared to say all-pro). What I didn't like about some of the BB plays is for example that one run-team with has some decent run plays, but none that was full power fb leading and towards the te side that I noticed. In other words many of the plays are bad to me because fail to give the runner the best chance possible as far as blockers taking on most possible pursuers. I feel like to run the ball I'd like more lead blocking because of the fierce penetration in the backfield.
Since the ratings really do seem to make a diff though, in the end I'll probably go around the league editing guys to either weaken some of the Defence or Power up some of the offence or a mix. Penetration in the backfield is coming too quickly though I think, so first it will be pumping up the oline, maybe diminsihing dline too.
I definently think this would improve the game. At the moment sacks seem like they are occurring left and right.
I thought I posted this but I don't see it, anyways;
This game has a lot of frustrating parts mostly in the running game and defense. It is very difficult to control the runner and make defenders miss. My natural reaction is to plunge forward into defenders using aggression, and I broke 1 tackle in like 4 games. In fact well over half the time I didn't even fall forward. This pisses me off, a lot, that I can plunge head-on into a safety and still manage to fall backwards. Also the jukes don't work nearly as much as they do in tackle alley, and the spins are tough to pull off.
Passing is realistic but very difficult to adjust from Madden. It's hard to see where the pressure comes from, it's really difficult to see your receiver.
Playing defense feels ********. It's difficult to tell what is going on and it is WAY WAY too easy to get pancaked. I usually got pancaked about every running play that I didn't make the tackle when I played on the front 7. It's like the aggression mode in the running game, it really doesn't seem to do anything when bull rushing blockers. I get pancaked often when bull rushing, which just feels unrealistic.
I just saw a WR drag his feet to catch a ball on the sidelines. I'm not sure if it was just an animation b/c he had to dive for it or if he consciously dragged his toes. Regardless, it happened.
Yeah I had the most fun on defense, makes me wish there was a superstar mode so I could do just that.
Offense feels kinda like a sloppy mess in front of the QB and it can be hard to tell what's going on down the field from this perspective. We don't have the training and practice of a QB to make that very much fun for me... apart from WRs breaking free and clear it's hard to tell who's actually open especially if it's beyond your initial read. I appreciate that there is a lot of cool physic based pass blocking and stuff going on, but that kind of stuff is really only appreciated in slow motion.
LOL I just made a tackle on defense by tripping the WR! I flicked the R stick forward, my guy dove way behind the WR and our legs tangled... for the tackle!
I know, but other games have a ton [of ratings], and only a couple seem to matter. Just my opinion.
Teddy Noankles!
As a PS3 guy, I'm really eager to get a look at this on Tuesday. If the only major issue for me is CPU AI (esp. on offense), I'm hopeful that either the retail version will not have the same problems or that the problem can be patched. What I'm seeing in the videos that have been posted has me thinking that I'm going to enjoy this. The idea that this doesn't have the NFL license and players is a plus for me, but I'm probably the only one who thinks that.
The game plays a lot better on hard when you pick a bad team and play a good team. Still, there's some work to be done here.
I actually like how passing is done in this game. I'm struggling to use the lob, but otherwise I'm reading coverages and snapping it to WR with no issue. Running is coming around too.
I've made some nice plays on D. I DID see a swat animation so I'm not completely angry anymore about that . Still, I see too many INT's overall IMO.
After playing another game, it was pretty fun now that I got the hang of it. I managed to get a interception myself (sort of randomly switched the the DB and just jumped up, I'll say I got lucky ). Got a one handed catch on offense though from the reply looks like the DB got a hand on it so the ball should of went down, but it was sweet. User catching is a must to learn if you haven't learned how from other football games since it's pretty easy to start throwing once you can user catch. Also, for me, I always have to know who I'm going to pass it to and lock onto them right away for me to get a good pass off =/ Running game is pretty fun once you get used to it, just have to find your holes and start juking people! I think I may buy this now, still considering it but I'm starting to have some fun. Defense is still pissing me off a little bit thought. I blame it one the camera angle more than anything because I can't really see what's going on too well and when I switch to a different player I usually get switched to someone who isn't in the position to make a play.
So I just witnessed another solid drive by the CPU...2 games today and both of them featured long drives by the CPU, this time by the Cougars and against me, the Spartans.
I also saw for the first time, the CPU scrambled with the QB and picked up 7 yards.
Am I playing the same demo I did yesterday??? lol.
Weird.
I have been able to successfully run the ball today. Yesterday, I couldn't do anything even against the worst team.
from what I understand this game seems like NFL Blitz, or NFL street just without the license agreement. I'll take a look at it on PS3 since you need Gold to download it. but unless they get to use real NFL players, I don't see this thing taking off
Well I can't imagine you got that "understanding" from this thread.

The passing game is much easier to play with alternate controls. There was a weird glitch on a punt return were there was a pile up on the ground and all the players kept jumping in and out of the pile. I had to quit the game because it just kept going.
Passing is a lot of fun. If you get used to the controls it can be a pretty big rush. I think the deep ball doesn't look that great at times, I haven't really been able to lead my WR in stride. I just end up getting 25 yard jump balls all the time. I like how we need to crow hop if it's a deep throw... takin' a page from APF
I love how messy it is running the ball, no doubt. Still, this game needs to play well online to warrant serious gaming time IMO.
These tackles don't get old. It's refreshing to go into every play with the mindset that you could really light someone up and see a truly amazing play.
QB play gets better on hard against good QB's. They actually make decisions lol.
It may be best to save all of the 'how does BB compare to Madden when it's played like an arcade game against other players trying to win at all costs' for after release.
-Passing
Hated it at first, then kind of got my **** together. I know I'm not the only person that accidentally changed targets attempting to lob a pass.
Not a fan of the scrambling. More or less I'll have to get used to that though. I really wish sliding would only be activated after you cross the LOS.
There was a neat bit where my QB avoided a sack and got the pass off while falling down.
-Rushing
Eh, I like general running. Not too hot about the rushing. Camera's weird and I can't really see that well. Running in general though is smooth and feels like football. I haven't had a shoulder charge work yet, but I did fly through the air Jahvid Best style at least once.
-Defense
This is sort of eh.
-Special teams
I am adoring the new kicking/punting system.
Presentation is ok, hearing BOOM HERE COMS DA BOOOOOOOM on every kickoff is kind of annoying, but I can play custom soundtracks over that.
I don't know if this has been mentioned but using focus on defense (holding LT) makes a huge difference. When in focus mode your defender always watches the ball, so it's a lot easier to flow to the ball and make plays.
Before that defense was a little frustrating because it was difficult to keep the important action on screen while flowing to the ball.
I wonder if players with lower focus will get confused on playaction, pump fakes, etc. It would be cool if bad players have you keying on the wrong action on certain plays while good players rarely steer you wrong.
Unless there's a fix for computer int's I'm starting to get negative about the game.Yes I'm playing pro mode on hard.I picked off Indy's qb 3 times in 9 attempts and am averaging a pick per 4-5 attempts on average.I don't want to get the game and end up with 10 picks playing 6 minute qtrs.
Yeah, I am curious about what the focus rating means. Methinks it is basically awareness of the playing going on around you, but it would be cool if it actually ties into the focus button also.
