My guess is that the engine is set to generate X number of whatever stat and the ratings are there just to distribute whatever in by ratings.

So if the number of whatevers is increased, it is increased for everyone - which is why increasing backups made for more YPC, for everyone.

The sacks, they probably ended up taking the MLB and DT sacks away, but the engine has to make X amount of sacks, so that leaves more sacks to divide up with the DE and OLBs.

That's probably why he mentioned that if rushing TDs go up, passing TDs can go down a lot - the number of whatevers, in this case, offensive TDs, is divided between QBs and RBs (I'm guessing that WR are assigned TDs after one is "created" for the QB). So if RBs get more TDs, that leaves less for QBs.

Yeah you don't even need to worry about safeties in this game unless they are really fast and have great closing speed, because the AI positions them too far back to come up and make a play on the ball.

You just have to pick your poison on defense in this game.

Manually controlling a pass rusher gives you a better pass rush at the expense of leaving your secondary extremely vulnerable.

Controlling a secondary player helps your pass coverage but leaves you with an abysmal pass rush that won't get off blocks or sprint after the QB.

This was an impressions thread. It turned into a 2K vs EA thread. Closed.

Second chance. If this turns into a EA vs 2K debate it will be locked.

Glad I sold my copy a month ago. Done with Madden

I don't think this sim stats thing is that big of a deal. I will just make every team's coaching sliders of Run vs. Pass at 60. I don't think many of you care that much about attempts. QBs will still have stats like pre-patch but I never found them too bad. The HBs will now have a good YPC, yards, and TDs. Somebody confirmed this had worked.

And for the person that said 32 team franchises is impossible due to CAP is wrong. What he did wrong was he did not set all the other CPU teams to CPU in their franchise settings. If he did so, the Saints would've easily been fine with their CAP. Everything else you can easily fix by just letting the CPU sign players for the other teams or clearing CAP penalties. I've done 10 years of 32 team franchises and never had it ruined by a team getting into too much CAP problem.

I have the 360, so would anyone be nice enough to do this, and simulate a season and give me stats of the top QBs and top HBs and some back-up HBs. Would be very nice.

I later will be checking out stuff to fix the sacks.

I have a question for the guys that aren't happy with the gameplay. Did you guys reset your sliders because if the game was tuned, sliders could really be out of whack now.

For instance, someone mentioned LBs not covering well, but if you have your CPU reaction time on defense too low based on how it played before, that could really have changed.

For those of you that aren't happy with the patch, you can do lb rb xx lb rb to clear the cache, or now you can choose the hdd press Y and choose clear cache or drive maintenance or whatever they call it now. (lb means left bumper, etc. on the controller)
But remember you will be back to the release day version of Madden with no patches then. You also won't be able to get new rosters via Live, only through xchange or xport.

I have posted the patch before this one (#1) in Xport format in my blog if you have that and you can reload it using that if you need to. I am going to save it (patch 1) before I download this one in case I want to go back to patch 1 state.

I don't know how different the retail release is versus the last patch #1(not this new one) since I never played the retail release only (and I never knew what patch #1 "fixed", I just accepted it). Anyone think retail is better than patch #1 (or #2 for that matter)

For Madden 11, it seems to me that the Madden team needs to address the stat engine since Franchise is so important to many Madden players. It can be done and it is not rocket science (this coming from a computer science/mathematics major )

Also, they need to work on the OL/DL interaction and pass coverage issues. The game is very close imo. If they focus on GAMEPLAY next year and not some gimmick (like the Sony team did with MLB 09 The Show (they focused on gameplay, of course they had some issues too with their game, but the gameplay was solid imo), they could have a great NFL game. To be fair, keep in mind how far this game has come since the first one on PS3/360 (I know, I know, about the game that won't be mentioned by me).

Overall, I like the game this year much better than the other 360/PS3 ones, and if the flats are fixed and the CPU can be sacked, I will probably like the new patch. I personally can live with the stat problems, although it is not ideal, but I understand why others would feel otherwise.

Yes, this is a big problem that needs to be addressed and could go a long way in making Madden solid on defense. If I remember, you can't even bring them up manually and switch players without the CPU moving them back. Plus, the CPU snaps the ball so fast, you don't have time to make any adjustments.

Have they addressed how fast the CPU snaps the ball when they are on offense? It wouldn't have been hard to have the CPU not snap the ball until there is less than 10 seconds on the clock if you are playing accelerated clock.

wow, I'm really enjoying this game now. I hadnt played it for a month and I saw on here that the patch was out, so I dl'd it. First game out, Titans (me) @ Colts, we go to OT, and I win on TD by Chris Johnson. Exciting game all the way through.

All I have to say is, this game plays so much smoother now, the tackles are more fluid and realistic. It's just better overall. This game now feels complete to me.

Are the boxes, where the numbers should be, on the back of the helmets fixed?

I have only tried the Patriots so far, but they had the numbers back on the helmets. No more boxes!

Quick observation for the RB stat guys....in three simmed seasons i have between 14-18 guys with 90+ yard runs and between 56-62 guys with runs of longer than 60 yards,,,,dont believe it was so many pre-patch and that has obviously gotta explain the high avg per carry numbers........probably nothing we can do to fix it is there.........does speed threshold affect simmed games,,,,,,,maybe closing the gap will produce less big plays and lower the avg's and total yrds.....just throwin it out there as a thought.ill do some testing until this nyquil takes affect and knocks me out for the night

I have only played one game which was cowboys vs.packers, I won 20-14 against the packers. It seemed more fluid and the game feels tighter. With the Cowboys I got 7 sacks about 4 user controlled and 3 by the cpu.

For some reason man coverage seems to be better, cpu qb's miss targets when they are hit while throwing,(may have to raise QB acc.) and to me the blocking is better. Screen passes seem a little to effective though. Im gonna try to play around with sliders to see if I can correct this.

I simmed one season and passing stats were realistic, but there were a lot of players with 10+ sacks. Im gonna play around with coaching philosophies a bit and see if there is a difference.

They have been trying to put out a decent Football game for years now and it still doesn't come close to a game that is 5 years old in 2K5. What does that really tell you?? I mean come on Patches? That alone tells you they can't get the job done.. Did 2K or any football game before ever have patches after their releases? EA needs to step up and start putting more quality in their games especially Football..
Patches are for every game. Not just football. Not just sports games. Every game. Period. Get used to it, because it will be that way for a very, very, long time. Games for the old Xbox even got patches sometimes (Rainbow Six 3 and Black Arrow to name two I know of for sure), but not very often. Games still had just as many flaws, and we just had to deal with them. Overabundant offense in Madden 04 (people forget about that one), and awful cpu roster management in ESPN 2k5 (I know I couldn't stand seeing Julius Peppers get traded for Brett Favre in year one every time). I remember having a gamekilling glitch on KoTOR. And I mean actually game killing. My guy was still cloaked in a dialogue scene which caused the game to get stuck, and I had to start over. I literally could not continue the game. We had to deal with those flaws. Now we don't have to.

Have games become too dependent on patches? Yes. And not just Madden. Pretty much any game with an established IP is guilty of this. Call of Duty: WaW had three patches I believe. A first patch is already being worked on for MW2. But I'd rather take companies being overly dependent on patches over no patches at all any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

What if we popped into every game and suspersimmed it with 5 min qtrs. Maybe that would help the inflated rushing yards??
