Hey Redshirt, do you think you could tell us the new controls for 10?
I noticed in the demo the push puck speed burst thing is on the L trigger now and someone else in another thread said the 1 handed dekes are on L trigger now as well.

Push puck is moved to LT (as you mention).
Boardplay is hold Y.
Leg kick is R3.
The height of a flip dump is based on the duration RB is held.
One-handed deke needs to have LT held down (making it harder to do by accident)
That's all I can remember off the top of my head for players. I think somebody already posted the goalie controls.
I remember seeing a video with all the gameplay enhancements and they showed drop passes or is it just a new animation and not something like the leg kick where you click the right stick?
The defensive AI is great. Too good, even. One thing that makes it look probably better than it actually is is the outdated offensive AI. Littman mentioned it was improved this year but I don't see much of an improvement. They still stand around doing absolutely nothing in the offensive zone and rarely will try to make themselves available for a pass. The end result is that it's extremely difficult to get scoring chances aside from passing it to the point and getting a shot on goal which gets repetitive. The offensive AI is also awful when it comes to getting open for passes during breakouts, often taking bizzare paths or skating right behind their own teammate for some unknown reason.
The offensive AI is pretty good when it comes to BAP, but suffers badly in regular versus. It needs a major overhaul in NHL11.
Oh yeah this game will kick ***. I will get it too. I just like more presentation. I think next they will buff that up! I like the way the game plays
You'll get your presentation in 2k10.. I just hope the game play is there too.
One thing you will get from EA's game is game play improvements.. I can tell many differences in the demo vs 09. I wish the presentation was beefed up too.. but it's easy to see what their goal was this year.

I agree. I'm not buying the game this year because even on Pro difficulty, the opposing defense is just too good, and the offensive AI doesn't make up for it.
Developers nowadays forget that Pro is a step up from beginner. I used to be able to go undefeated on the highest difficulty on PC NHL series up until 06 or 07 when I switched to PS3. Pro should not be this difficult.
Pretty much. I think both games are going to rock. And like always I will have both games for both system. Yes 4 games. I can never figure out which system I like better, so I buy all 4 and then give them away when I figure it out.
Jesus! Both games on both systems?! Why don't you just get both on the system that'll have more of your friends online on or get 1 for xbox and 1 for PS3?

I couldn't disagree with the two of you any more...
The lack of teammate offensive AI is the very reason why I got rid of NHL 09 last year and worried like hell that they wouldn't address it. The NHL 10 demo has shown me that not only have they addressed it, but it is actually pretty damn good.
PRO is too hard??? Maybe thats where the real problem is. You need to maybe learn how to initiate a cycle. Take your time and experiment with the puck in the offensive zone...your team mates will work with you...

or I'd be right there bitchin with ya.
I'm playing on all-star, I have no problems with pro. Anyways, it's not that the offensive AI never cycles, but the first problem is that they never cycle when you aren't moving, so if the defense cuts off your passing lanes and they're pressuring you the offensive AI won't try to get open. The other problem is that when they do cycle, there's not much of a point to it other than to get a point shot. Regardless of the strategies the offensive AI will rarely ever get open for a good scoring opportunity such as a one timer from the slot. I'm not saying it's impossible to score because it isn't, but it's clear that the defensive AI is much more sophisticated than the offensive AI.
Again, this isn't really an issue in BAP as much because you can control the pace more by doing things without the puck such as finding open space. When you're always controlling players who have the puck you have to rely on them to help you without the puck and they don't do an adequate job, even if it is an improvement from 09. At least in 09 you could skate around and stickhandle to create scoring chances, but in 10 you'll get tired out easily doing that and you have to completely avoid the boards or you'll get sucked in by a defender. That's another issue, you don't get enough help during boardplay most of the time.
Then of course there's the computer offense that can endlessly cycle it seems like. It's impossible to poke check them because they have this amazing ability to keep the puck away despite never using the protect puck feature or the skill stick. It's really something to behold.
Unlike some people posting in this thread I actually own a PS3/360 and I have been enjoying the demo a lot, I agree with OBG and RealmK you would have to be blind or on a personal agenda to not see the changes in this years game.
Playing on Allstar/Hardcore is VERY difficult for me. The Computer pretty much possesses the puck in my zone the entire 20mins. I'm lucky if I can connect 30% of my passes and the CPU doesn't fail in poking the puck away from me, or lifting my stick and regaining it.
One thing that still irks me is that EA still haven't returned the "Always Up" control scheme to what it was in '07 and '08. The shot aiming is still camera relative.
Please, please, please, try and slip this into one of the patches that will eventually be released. Just allow us to use the exact same control scheme as up when facing down. If this gets patched the game will basically be perfect in my books.
scottdau was posting in some other thread and had no idea what online teamplay or the eashl was despite the fact it's been the main selling feature for 2 years. you decide if his opinion is qualified.
What does this have to do with anything?
So because he doesn't play online or doesn't know some of the online features he isn't "qualified" to give impressions?
After a few games I've found something a bit concerning. I may have already been discussed. The rough stuff after the wistle seems to ALWAYS result in at least one penalty. I hope there is a way we can turn this off. I don't want to turn all penalties down, but if we get a penalty after every scuffly, post-wistle, that will get really, really old.

Personally I havent had a problem with the amount of penalties being called after the whistle but I have had some undeserving penalties called on me. If another player hits my player enough times without hitting back I will get a penaly if he does. You can change penalties after the whistle in the full version there is no slider for it but there are different setting altough it is already set on relaxed so you might not be able to change it to your liking.

To slightly follow up on this, is it just me or when they call coincidental penalties its only your player that gets a little summary? You don't find out who else gets called.

Well, that's good. As long as we can turn it off it will be fine.
I posted this a couple of days ago but it is still bugging me, now I have gone a week and a half since the last penalty was called against the cpu!!! I have the puck in teh opponents zone cycling away and setting up shots and the cpu never gets called for anything. I have had my guy take a shot and then after teh shot he gets put down and still nothing but if I do the same the whistle is blown!
Also the cpu loves to set up a player right infront of the net for the easy one timer and my ai defenseman lets him take the shot!!
I know the real thing will have sliders but there is no guarantee they will do the job.
^^^ agree with realm here....good amount of cpu penalties in game.
If not enough sliders hopefully can fix.
this year they will have the pp time slider right? Since I will play 10 min periods, each PP I will set as 1 min real time to get the accurate proportions in time. Possible right?
