It's not possible to do any line changes in the demo, they are set to off. You also are always on the first line.
Even in the NHL as a rookie? So if you're a C on the Pens you get moved to the first line over Crosby or Malkin?

You don't start in the AHL and have to work your way up?

What about the draft, always a 1st rounder?

I have no idea, I'm just going off the demo.

In the demo you play the third perios of the Prospects game, and then you get drafted. There is a menu option to choose NHL pro instead of be a pro, which makes me think you can assume a current NHL star as well, plus make you own. I have no idea if this was in 09, I diddn't play it.

I would think you start in the AHL.

All I know is what's in the demo, is there any info out there regarding BAP?

As for the draft, some people have gone 1st overall (I know scottdau said he did), lowest for me would be 18th I think.

Ok, thanks for the info. I guess I may have to wait until the game comes out to know for sure. I wonder if I could create a player, place him on an NHL team and then choose NHL be a pro to become him instead, if that means I don't have to be the typical 1st round straight to the NHL prospect.

Maybe not everyone is looking for the same thing but being a 5th round 64 overall plug with potential and grinding it out in the AHL for 2-3 years before making the team as a 4th line role player/energy player sounds more fun to me than being the next Crosby in the draft. But not if my crappy 4th line goon gets 1st line minutes and PP time. Kind of ruins the point.

The demo intentionally turns line changes off to let you play the whole period of the prospects game. You still have to work your way up from the AHL; no idea if they fixed the line logic and such.

I think it'd be fun to do both, although I do agree getting first line minutes as a 4th line grinder is a dumb idea.

I've been playing BAP some more on AS/HC and this demo just isn't selling it for me. Too much frustration with "Human" AI. CPU and "Human" AI should be on the same level right out of the box and shouldn't need major tweaking.

I am having a lot of fun with this demo. I love the extracurricular activities after the whistle blows.

Its been a long time since I owned a hockey game, but it may be time for me to jump back into the rink.

I am having a great time with this game. The more realistic you play, the better the game is. I love that.

So I've finally decided after scoring 1 goal in about 30 games(AS/HC) and failing to hit many easy passes, that normal is the better play until the actual game comes out and we can edit the sliders.

1)The CPU can go tic-tac-toe endlessly and on hardcore we cannot. Normal fixes that.

2)Even on normal, passes are not always tape to tape and I've seen my share of passes going wayward of the intended target.

3)Powerplays became playable and fun since they fixed one-timers. Normal passing gives me an opportunity to aim passes and connect on one-timers(definitely not every time)

I agree...

I've gone to normal/pro because the goaltenders are more human...

but yes, normal all-star is where the game play on the ice is really the best, just need to tone the goalies down a bit.

All-star/hardcore is my favorite, however the tic-tac passes need fixing. They launch lasers back and forth, and my guys pass like pee-wee players.

A good challenge though

Agreed. I'm finding the best resulst for me are on PRO/NORMAL.

Couldn't agree with you more as hc mode is too frustrating and are at a disadvantage against the cpu. Like you said on normal passes are not always accurate and you don't always rely on one-timers as their effectiveness are toned down.

I'm quite sure I'll be playing on Pro/Normal as well.

While I don't think Hardcore is too bad, but the having to charge up the passing speed, I just don't think is for me.

I agree about the goalies seemingly being more "Human" on Pro level. But I'd have to say...I think their a bit more human-like in NHL '10' as a whole. I believe the many added animations have helped to achieve more human-like goal tending this year.

Played a little more of the demo last night after taking a break for a few days. A few observations:

1. I'm not a fan of some of the awkward pass receiving animations (behind the back, one-handed, etc), most of which seem to be more frequently used by the CPU. I think the flow of the game would be much better served if these were incomplete passes. It's particularly unsettling to see one of these animations morph immediately into a shot attempt. Of course, decreasing pass accuracy may help with this, but we won't know until we can fiddle.

2. There isn't a separate human/CPU pass speed slider, so if we want to increase human pass speed for manual passing, we'll have to increase the CPU pass speed in turn. Maybe this is something Redshirt & Co could address with the server-side tuning set...

I think it's worth noting that it looks like we can play with hardcore assistance settings -- including zero pass assist -- while turning off manual passing (charging up power). It seems like a lot of people are writing off hardcore for normal due to the delay to power-up a pass. That's only a small part of the settings and it appears we'll be able to simply turn off manual pass power while keeping everything else with no assist if so desired.

I'd like to stick with full manual passing for the creativity and realism, but at this point I'm worried that it will give the CPU too much of an advantage. It will be interesting to see how we can modify the gameplay, particularly on the AI side of things, with the sliders.

3. One final point -- I'm not very good at this point and I'm looking forward to playing the likes of the Islanders, Thrashers, and Avalanche.

That's truly the part I enjoy most about the demo. It just feels like the game has been really, really fine tuned for realistic play. I rarely score on any videogame-esque plays, it's the ones that I set up like actual hockey plays that seem to get me points which is something I haven't really experienced in a game yet.

yeah...i've already pre-ordered it directly through EA because I received an email that gave me 25% (i'm pretty sure) off 1 item for my birthday, so i went ahead and purchased it. don't know if i'll receive it on opening day, but if not that's okay because i'll be reading the stuff here on the slider tweaks that many (QB!!!) will be providing...

I've had my copy pre-paid for, for about a month.

As of this year, NHL '10' is my only must have sports game.
