NCAA FOOTBALL 10 DEMO AVAILABLE TODAY

Fans Awaiting the Release of NCAA Football 10
Create Over 80,000 Custom Teams via TeamBuilder

June 18, 2009 –Electronic Arts is proud to announce that the demo of NCAA Football 10 is available today for Xbox 360 and PS3. Fans who download the free demo will experience all-new gameplay features including:
  • Defensive Keys—Prior to the snap during the pre-play, hold the left trigger while pressing the analog stick in the direction you think will stop the run. If you think the offense will pass the ball, press upward. Or, you can press the icon associated with a receiver (X, Y, A, B, LB, RB) to spotlight that individual. This will focus the defense on making sure that the chosen offensive player does not make a play.
  • Defensive Player Assist—By holding A (on 360) or X (on PS3) on defense your player will be put under CPU control so you have time to read a play and decide the best course of action.
  • Enhanced Defensive Lineman Moves—With new animations, take control of your defensive linemen using the right stick to fight pass blocks and put pressure on the quarterback.
  • Gameplanning—There are six defensive and five offensive individual game planning options, or you can globally set your offense and defense. Each option changes the way your team will perform. For example, be aggressive and try and strip the ball every time and you run the risk of getting more facemask penalties.
  • Player Lock—Player lock allows you to lock on to a specific player in order to control that position during the play. When you lock on you'll get a whole new camera angle that puts you closer to the action.
  • Set Up Plays—Set up plays allows you to run one play in order to set up another. When picking a play, you will notice that some plays have a chain link between them, which indicates that one play can set up the other. Every time you use one particular play throughout the game, you are setting up for the play that is chain linked to it. Once the play is 100% set up (as shown in your playbook), the defense is at its highest likelihood to fall for that play action.
  • 1000 new animations like throw out of a sack, new shotgun snaps/hand-offs, WR/DB interactions, tackles, double team run blocks, catches, broken tackles, and slipping in bad weather.

Mine too. I haven't been seeing any major graphics issues and I downloaded both versions. Really enjoying the demo so far and can't wait for the game to drop. My main gripe while playing through, I've read won't be in the retail version (the overdone/over the top tackles) so I'm pumped.

maybe i'm the only one who liked the demo? i thought the qb play was improved over last year. for one example, i had a wide open man running a slant over the middle. i throw to him for an easy td, but instead of putting it on target my qb puts it just over his head and the safety behind him picks it off. it was just a bad throw. (i believe it was bradford). in the same line, when playing on d tebow threw a ball to the sideline but it was behind the receiver. the receiver slowed down to catch it but my defender had the angle and grabbed the easy pick. the inaccuracies were there and i liked it.

the running game was alright. playing as florida i really enjoyed the multiple options and reverses and stuff. but the real ground game, with ou, was pretty good. they have an elite rb so it may just be that, but i found it good. it wasn't easy picking up yards, but following holes and the flow of the play made it realistic but still enjoyable.

the presentation hasnt really seen any changes aside from bands and erin andrews' voice, but comparing it to madden is almost not fair. i don't hate it.

and, dont forget- the windsocks looked awesome.

exactly. the ball travels way too fast and the camera doesnt keep up. EVERYTIME I threw a TD in the back of the end zone and had to rely on the announcers to say if it was caught or not, because I couldnt see it.

Not sure if any of this has been posted yet, i dont feel like looking thru 80+ pages, but while playing the demo, ive noticed some glaring glitches. There's one that happened to me twice in my last game. The center snapped the ball and it went over my qb's head and went about 10 or so yards back and it was called an incompletion...it was wierd. Another thing is while time was running out in the 2nd quarter, i was on D and Florida threw a pass to the endzone, it was about a 40 yard pass, i picked it and started running it back. The offensive line just kinda stood there in a bunch, but as i started to get closer its like they got an epiphany that they should try to tackle me, and came after me and knocked me out of bounds. The final glitch i saw, was at the end of the game. I was on the 15 yard line, score was 14-14. I ran a fb dive to get lined up for an easier fg attempt. The clock ticked down to :02 left. I called a time out it takes me to the whole chose your style thing...ok then the CPU calls a timeout..takes me back to the chose your style...CPU calls another timeout...takes me back to chose your style...then cpu calls yet another timeout. Then i get to chose my style and kick the FG for the win. But seriously, three t.o.'s in a row?? Other than these things i really like the game. The player lock is really fun especially if you're blitzing a CB/Safety.

1. Playerlock Cam. On defense the biggest problem with this is if you are Dlineman, and its a passing play. For all intensive purposes, you are done if the pass gets off. For as great as the views are, you need to be able to switch the nearest defender.
So Player Lock cam is a "Con" because it locks you onto a player...? It's doing what it's supposed to do. Just dont use that cam if you want to switch players.

The AI in this game is garbage. I was up late (FLA) and the cpu (OK) had the ball with under 1 minute left in the game. They complete a pass that is not a first down. Guess what they do... Go into the no huddle (no problem there). Then the QB sits barking signals for over 10 seconds like he is trying to draw me offsides. After that he audibles and the offense resets. The QB then snaps the ball and spikes it All with 2 timeouts left.

Then to make matters worse, on the last play of the game I go into a prevent defense and player lock as the RE. To my surprise, my secondary does not cover any one past 15 yds down field and the cpu completes a hail mary bomb to a wide open man (no man within 30 yds of the receiver) for the TD and the win. If your CPU teammates are going to be so brain dead player lock is a waste of time.

anyone know the date silver users gets a chance to DL the game?

Penalties are assessed wrong in demo. Holding on the offense while Oklahoma was punting and it was downed at the 2. Options were take it at the 2 or 12. Oklahoma should back up 10 and re-punt.

After a time out, go back to the formation I was in, do not reset the play book burning up my play clock.

Audio is crap. Student chants sound stupid.

Add me to the list of unimpressed. Aside from all the obvious issues with rosters, broken sliders, no pass rush my main frustration is Heisman level is just as irritating as last year. FB still doesnt block effectively on a simple Iso play. Anything with linemen pulling gets stuffed in the backfield because the pulling linemen runs upfield to seek out a safety to block instead of someone on the playside. Ive seen linemen on screen plays just leave me butt *** naked right after i catch the ball to go block god knows who. I mean this is silly stuff that has been going on for way too long with this game

Wow. I must say, I was very put off by the videos we have seen, but the demo may have changed my mind about NCAA 10.

Impressions:

I love the new gameplanning elements. At first I thought you just set a global "aggressive" or "conservative" switch, but now I see it's much deeper than that. It gives us a little risk-reward system to tinker with, and if you're behind and make adjustments to catch up, you really feel like you "coached" your way back into the lead.

We can mix and match uniform combinations! This was something completely unexpected for me. It seems like one of those things we'd always ask for and never get, but it's in!

Player lock, for me, is a dream come true. I always got somewhat bored on defense, because my natural inclination is to play cornerback, which you can't do very well with the default camera. But player lock solves this! Also, there's something about reversing the camera angle that makes it seem completely separate and distinct from offense--that's a good thing.

Passing feels great to me. I like the new over the shoulder catches--it really gives the catching game a more dynamic element.

Running the ball can be maddening. I see some people respond to others by saying "follow your blocks" and "lay off turbo." Those two things are excellent advice, but they don't solve the problem of 1) the cpu tackling the RB just as he gets the ball and 2) your CPU teammates hanging you out to dry on runblocking. The only real times I've had any degree of success is when I've locked onto a TE or a FB and made the blocks myself. Of course, then you're not in control of the RB. That being said, there are sliders that usually fix this issue, so I'm not worried.

CPU QB is extremely accurate vs. me. In my first game, CPU's only incompletes were catches out of bounds and INT's. Again, sliders may mitigate this somewhat.

In short, I was ready to skip NCAA for the first time since '03, but the demo has got me back on the bandwagon.

Oh man oh man am I bummed. I just can't get by how the players move. Herky jerky, stiff, and disproportionate. I just don't get why every new gen football game moves the way they do (except APF). There is no way I can even dig deeper when the surface makes me want to puke. Definitely no college football video game for me this year.

I dont think you understand what he's saying.

If you're controlling a player and a pass get's caught, you're toast. There's nothing you can do on the play, especially if the pass is opposite you. The camera get's so far out that you cant see

I like the feel of the game it feels smooth and slower than last year the adaptive ai is nice too not just for linking plays I pounded it up n the middle a couple of times for two maybe three at the most the I did a toss the fb pick up the olb and it was just me and a safety who tackled me but after I picked up a 20 yard gain he had the angle. This is on heisman by the way, I really felt the pressure when they blitzed I tried to throw it in while in the def grasp and a do picked it off when they blitz it really forces you to dump it off. On def the CPU attempts help to bal the ais gAme even it they aren't getting big gain or any which is the result of a CPU run more times than not. The blitz from the slot cb is too effective at the end of the game I ran it thre times against Florida and got three sack I guess maybe bc they were trying to go down the field adaptive ai on off would have been greatly appreciated another thing that is too efective is press in dime I did this for like a whole game and I think tebow might have complete 4 passes it would have been great to be punished fo BEng so agressive but I guess that is next yr for adaptve ai. Overall I like it especially if the game does something to address those def money tactics. Before I was just gonna play fight night all July now after the demo I'll prolly rent it first and go from there my demo exp was positive overall. Sorry for the roughness my impressions I'm doing this on my iPhone

no, reread the post the guy wants to be able to switch between defenders while on player lock

# 696 Pass_The_Cows @ 06/19/09 09:25 PM
Don't know if this has been mentioned but I was in the last minute and Florida had a 4th and ~20 when Tebow threw it to the WR who was standing still right on the sideline and dropped the ball instantly which somehow resulted in Florida getting a 1st down where he dropped it.

No, he got it exactly right. I like the concept of player lock, its great to see the perspective on defense from the defensive standpoint of the position you wish to play. But say you are playing line, and its a pass play. You don't get the QB, and a pass is completed. You have no more say on the play. Can't do a thing. I understand the idea of player lock is PLAYER LOCK, but you could make it much more engaging if on a pass pattern, after a completion or as soon as the pass is made, the camera switches back to the normal cam.

Follow?

I played another game and it's not bad but the lack of polish in this game is astonishing. I can't believe some of the things you could see in a demo for a game going on it's fourth iteration.

I tried to let Florida score at the end of this game so I could get to OT. I call an all out blitz with a 4-3 at my own 20 with little time left against Tebow in the shotgun. He hits the slot WR around the 7 or 8 yard line who pretty much has a free run to the endzone. One player is off to his right a little bit but rather than just run into the endzone, he runs parallel to it and after about a 10 yard run sideways gets tackled on the 5 yard line. I then tried to stop them on their final play just to end the game. How does this get in the game? Too many things like that in this demo imo.

I just don't see a big enough upgrade to buy this game, especially with the a gameplay camera I don't like.

Just read that, thanks for the heads up.

Pathetic.

I'm not at all impressed with the demo, which I would rate as a 6.5 out of 10. Granted it is a demo and maybe tough to accurately judge, there is just too much to not like, especially after hearing about the problems shipping with the disc.

Graphically, this is definitely a step back from even just last year. The PS3 version looks terrible, and after four years of doing a next-gen title, we should be well passed this. Textures are weak, helmets and player models look sub-par, and the crowd has not been updated in any way.

The presentation, as well all know, has been completely untouched, with the exception of Erin Andrews and the bands that play on the field pre-game. However, the sad part is you can't hear those bands play (at least not in the demo). The commentary is fine and is basically the same as it has been. However, this game still lacks emotion and true college atmosphere--don't let those people at EA tell you otherwise.

The gameplay is also basically untouched, but the pace of the game is better than last year (which ran a bit too fast), and the new pursuit angles are useful in some ways. Playing defense feels different, but the offensive line troubles are bothersome, as are the continued problems with the pass rush.

Adding field goal nets and wind socks does not constitute a new game, especially when other facets are going in the wrong direction. I'm glad that Create-a-school was addressed (finally), but it seems that too much was sacrificed in other terms. Season Showdown would seem like a novel idea, but I think a lot of dev time was wasted on a feature that is inherently pointless and will be unusable once the season is over.

If the demo and latest word is any indication of how well the game has improved, I'd say the sale numbers for EA are in a lot of trouble. I'd like to believe that, because than maybe they would stop resting on their laurels and actually make something out of this series. There are some things I like, but a lot of things that I don't, so chances are decreasing that I will purchase this game (which would be a first since the series inception occurred). I will wait and see how the final game compares before making final judgment.
