"A rookie defensive back sealed the fate of the Ravens today, sending the Titans into the second round of the playoffs in Madden NFL 10.

The Tennessee Titans (9-7) took on the Baltimore Ravens (10-6) in the opening game of the AFC Wildcard game today in a crazy back and forth game filled with dazzling special teams and defensive play. QB Joe Flacco threw an interception as time wound down that rookie CB Ryan Mouton intercepted with less than 20 seconds to go in regulation to seal the Titans victory."

People at OS will only be satisfied when Madden becomes so perfect it will perfectly predict every real NFL game rendering the game obsolete.

Besides, i wouldn't worry about the people here. With all the Improvement made to madden this year, it is a safe bet that Madden will outsell Madden 09 and that is good for the bottom line, and everyone working on Madden 10.

Try not to let the overreacting nitpickers bother you. Some people have just built up their own idea of what it should look like and when the actual thing doesn't match it they freak out.

Now there are some legitimate complaints about things that can be tuned and tweaked.

But don't let the big complaints on the little things bother ya. Because honestly the game looks better than it EVER has before. I don't think anyone would make the argument the game has regressed, but some had otherworldly expectations for the amount of stuff to be fixed/changed over the course of a few months.

Yeah, I'd argue at LEAST 1 in 5 passes in an NFL game with AVERAGE QBs falls incomplete without ever touching a player- offensive or defensive. I don't think that's a stretch.

Don't forget a lot of NFL QBs throw grounders. I don't think I've seen that in a video game yet.

Think of Operation Sports as the unquenchable beast.

Ha! No kidding.

Positives:

*Cut scenes
*Stat Overlays
*Penalties
*Overthrows by Flacco
*Bad passes when the QB throws while getting hit.
*The catch by CJ on the screen pass
*Better CPU clock management

Needs a little work:

*Running animations..check out the halftime highlight of CJ chasing down Foxworth. Brutal.
*Would have liked to have seen the CPU AI adjust to your repeated calls for sweeps.
*DLine was completely ineffective for the most part.
*QBs had way too much time to throw.
*What happened to the atmosphere that was in the Chiefs/Atl. game? The crowd was amazing there! This game? Not so much.

Looking forward to getting the game.

And worse yet, you used a couple average offenses as examples (Titans/Chiefs). I didn't see any evidence of QB inaccuracy at all.

Hey, I haven't gotten a Madden game in a few years and I'm hopeful for this year, but largely because of your previous blogs and not so much because of videos you've posted. Just telling you how I see it. Time will be the ultimate judge as to whether you've been able to live up to what you guys set out to do this Spring and create a real sim. Seeing as how you're the only NFL game around, I'm certainly rooting for you...
This argument is kind of unfair IMO...dozens of issues that plagued Madden are no longer there and you don't mention those at all. We're doing the best we can, moving towards a simulation experience. I've heard "Rome wasn't built in a day", though the team and I are sure trying our best.

I saw a few over and underthrows out of bounds...you didn't?

You need an assistant to actually spend all day doing this stuff for you....so you can tend to more important things.

With all due respect IAN, I've been one to come to the defense of your group a lot when I feel you all are being treated unfairly. (Yeah I know you don't ask for anyone to defende you..I just do)

However there have been many conversations about the lack of any DL pressure etc.. you've responded about tweaking this and that and you show stats backing up the results. Yet every vid since then still has yet to show ANY DL work. In fact you've responded before in the same manner of "I just played a game..etc..and it looked good". I say great! Ian says the pressure is there. I just question why we never get a visual representation of the successful tweaking.

Again I love the path Madden is one and wish your team the best of luck. I really do. Day one purchase for me and can't wait to see what the future holds.

+1

This game looks sick as Hell.

Loved the Flacco to Figurs play in first video, and his nice lil celebration once he reached the end zone.

Time to go watch video 2-6.(Might have to watch them all over again.)

Great job Ian, the game looks like a ton of fun. It did look a little easy to get to the outside on a few plays but overall I liked the majority of what I saw.

Just noticed Keith Bulluck's red gloves. Sweet. Also noticing a few HORRIBLE passes by Flacco, also pretty sweet. I'd like to see a little more push from the D-line. I feel like you take away a couple of those big plays and we have a whole different ball game. I think the CPU AI should play a little more conservative in their pursuit of a speedy back like Johnson.

Missed field goal, cool. Like the improvements to the QB sneak.

# 94 Krodis @ 06/12/09 07:15 PM
See, I think the Qbs throwing accuracy was fine, and the defensive backs were fine. The only trouble was the QBs had too much time to throw.

There were plenty of poorly thrown balls. I think that's something that was really impressive to me. The only really problem was there were too many times the QB had 5, 6, 7 seconds to find an open receiver. Otherwise the passing game looked good.

It's weird, because Ian posted that post last week about the pass rush tuning, and the numbers looked fine then, but the pass rush was still weak in this game. Hopefully this can be tuned some more. Or maybe it was just an aberration.

The problem is that you cannot make it 100% identical to a real play in the NFL, and that is perfectly fine, because it is real life vs. a video game. I think that you are doing a fantastic job, and like I said you are a better man than I am for you to keep on coming to OS.

I swear people on here would use their TIVO to pause a real life game, and say "Hey that shouldn't have happened! That ball surely couldn't have been tipped around like that and then caught by the CB. Man Roger Goodell needs to fix that animation!"

# 96 Broncos86 @ 06/12/09 07:16 PM
The game isn't going to be perfect. Is it replicated NFL football? No. Is it far and beyond what Madden 09 is? Hell yes.

But the most important question: Will Madden 10 be fun? I think so.

The bolded part is EXACTLY what i'm thinking... if the Defense played a little more conservatively.. the entire outcome would seem more realistic... maybe the poor defenses will take more chances and give up the big plays... but Ravens and Titans shouldn't take un-needed risks...

I have confidence in you IAN!! haha I think with a couple tweaks here and there this game will be LEGIT.

Oh and don't worry about the people complaining about the size of handwarmers and stuff... lets get this game of football as accurate as we can before it ships...

Not really, perhaps I missed it. But anyways, I'm certainly not trying to dissuade you from posting these vids up here at all. And I'm not going to judge the game in full at all until I play the final product. The TD after TD scoring in a would-be defensive game scares me, yeah. But maybe the improvements will be obvious after playing the game, esp the final product. I've been into NCAA the last couple years, but the only way to slow the offense in those games is to use awful teams and really mess with sliders. I hope that isn't Madden 10, especially with the advent of Online Franchise, so many possibilities there.

Regardless, thanks again for the videos. It's making things fun here. And, most importantly, you're certainly creating a buzz around this game that we haven't seen in a long while. Like I said, I'm hoping the game lives up.
