"A rookie defensive back sealed the fate of the Ravens today, sending the Titans into the second round of the playoffs in Madden NFL 10.

The Tennessee Titans (9-7) took on the Baltimore Ravens (10-6) in the opening game of the AFC Wildcard game today in a crazy back and forth game filled with dazzling special teams and defensive play. QB Joe Flacco threw an interception as time wound down that rookie CB Ryan Mouton intercepted with less than 20 seconds to go in regulation to seal the Titans victory."

Contrary to popular opinion I don't really think the sky is falling on the Defense. Most of the points scored were on big plays, Ravens interception for a TD and a 77 yard TD pass, that's 14 of their 21 points. Titans interception for a TD (on what was essentially the last play of the game) a 37 yard TD run by Johnson and a long screen pass to Johnson that went for a TD (I think). That's 21 of Tennessee's 35 points. Keep in mind, despite being held to only 10 points by Baltimore in the playoffs last year the Titans did put up 391 yards of offense. Johnson ran for a 6.5 ypc average on only 11 carries and Justin Gage put up over 130 yards of receiving.

The difference in this game was Johnson's speed. I think the defense should have keyed on the outside runs earlier in the game and should have been more conservative in their pursuit angles.

Besides for a couple big plays, Baltimore's offense was stagnant and I liked that. Flacco was inconsistent as was Ray Rice. I think Ian only completed around 50% of his passes and I thought the two interceptions he threw were very reasonable. I loved seeing Ed Reed come in and make a big play late in the game.
Bold part: exactly.. I think the defense isn't so bad after all... with a little more conservative approach on pursuit angles and the adaptive AI realizing things a tad earlier... this game should be great.

Yeah. But if Ian were to restart the game as Baltimore, would the results reverse? I just hope every interception isn't a touchdown, and that the CPU Chris Johnson is as effective as the human controlled one. I have my doubts.

Thanks Ian!

I'm checking it out now. Initial reaction is that the game is looking great. I really am digging all of the upgrades to the presentation!

Also shows the Baltimore fans upset even though they just took a pick 6 to the house.

Yep....and at the end of 4th video...Flacco leads a receiver too far on a post pattern I believe it was.

This game is simply night and day from last year to this year.

...and now I've seen the whole enchilada.

Madden NFL 10 looks like it's gonna be beaucoup fun. This looks like more than a one year advance from Madden 09.

There's so much good stuff going on in that game - I'm truly impressed. The icing on the cake for me was seeing Ian run the INT back to end the game - followed by the pissed off Ravens fans leaving. It put a smile on my face and I can't wait to empty out a stadium with my stick skills! Nice!

Of course, Madden isn't perfect yet. The audio presentation is still a little old school and I haven't seen the light progression that used to be there (if not for every play - at LEAST every quarter like in the Madden 07 I'm playing on XBOX right now). Nor have I seen or heard anything about my beloved Blue Line of Scrimmage OR the inability to run THRU the walls - but I'm definitely NOT hating. They've got Madden '11 to make MY version.

Come August - I've got the notion I'll be a happy camper.

Looking good, Madden Team.

ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN AN NFL GAME.

Just thought I would throw that out there... even though I wish the score wasn't so high and there were less big plays given up... It's really hard to judge the game on one single game between these two opponents.... If the Titans and Ravens played in real life 10 times in a row... i bet there would be a couple just like the game Ian played.... and I'm sure if he re-played this same game... it's possible the game would have been more defensive... so it's really hard to judge ....

haha but I still vote for more conservative pursuit angles and over-pursuit to funnel the ballcarrier back to the inside...

Crowd noise sound great! Sounds like the fans are stomping their feet and you can almost feel it. (can't wait to hear this out of the 7.1 surround)

at the beginning of the 5th video, the pass breakup by Washington(Baltimore) was amazing! He laid out to get a hand on it.

Looks like there is no progressive lighting for the game.

ya that has bugged me in the past... hopefully it isn't like that anymore.. I would go as far as to say I would rather the offensive team run a bit faster just to catch up to these guys so it isn't a pick 6 all the time...

I know

I at least wanted there to be a change in lighting per quarter like there was in the last gen maddens since I don't see why they put in sunset games and not at least have that.

Here's to hoping that at least the last gen time of day change will be in the final game....

LOL!!!

In the 5th video when Flacco airmails the deep ball(nice to see the cpu throwing deep)...he makes up for it by laying the wood to Harper.

Joe Flacco is one tough SOB....

Is it me or does Tom Hammond sound much better? I heard a few old lines in there, but the newer lines that I heard from Tom Hammond sounded much better along with Cris Collinsworth who was talking throughout most of the game.

It's just a case of morons and complainers being louder than the people with positive and constructive feedback.

On the bright side, my block button has grown pretty well these past few months

What you're doing with this game and community is nothing short of fantastic, so don't let the idiots get you down.

Good question. I think Chris Johnson is looking a little too dangerous at this point. But in the interest of fairness and balance, I hope he's dangerous regardless of who's controlling him.

I'd hope this result is an exception to the rule, though. That seems to be Ian's take on this game. Take out the big plays and we have a reasonable defensive struggle. But I'm sure i could say that about a lot of games. I just think these two teams need to tackle a little more consistently, and the Ravens need to show a greater focus on the Titan's best offensive player and his strengths. If those things happened that 77 yard pass to Figurs would have went for about eight, that 37 yard touchdown run by Johnson probably would have went for little, to no, gain. And had a few defenders stayed at home on that screen it probably wouldn't have broke for a TD. Just a few breaks one way or the other could have changed the entire complection of this game.

I am a little worried about the INT td's though. I hope those aren't too prevalent.
