"A rookie defensive back sealed the fate of the Ravens today, sending the Titans into the second round of the playoffs in Madden NFL 10.

The Tennessee Titans (9-7) took on the Baltimore Ravens (10-6) in the opening game of the AFC Wildcard game today in a crazy back and forth game filled with dazzling special teams and defensive play. QB Joe Flacco threw an interception as time wound down that rookie CB Ryan Mouton intercepted with less than 20 seconds to go in regulation to seal the Titans victory."

lol whoa, that was awesome. I am soo happy I have a Madden game that is actually going to be exciting to play. I only watched the 4th Quarter but it was great, The Ravens actually ran a proper 2 minute offense, this has been lacking in Madden for the past few years. Also, that Cut scene right after the Extra point in the last video was stunning, Looked like a real NFL game.

Couple small details I saw:

noticed Flacco was on the Phone during the last couple seconds when it was obvious they were going to lose, thats probably not going to happen.

The MVP announcement was rather poor imo, I would rather have a little popup during the playcall screen or something that announces he was the MVP with his stats.

Overall I think Tiburon knocked one out of the park here, I cannot wait until the 14th.

Everything is great...game looks a 100x better...my only issue is with stat overlays...yes there are a few more...but man as a big stat guy i would love to see more updates on how many yards my rb has...or how many tackles my mlb has...i guess just more frequent updates...whether they are pop ups like the qb comparison one or just simple ones on the ticker at the bottom...btw...loving the playoff atmosphere with the playoffs logo on the field...nfl playoffs symbol on replays and the wildcard text under the ticker...great job nonetheless...but if you guys feel like there arent enough stat overlays, is there any way to increase how often they show up? cant wait for aug 14th!

Ian, you know I pounded those two issues over and over, and I'm sure it got annoying, but man, that's huge.

Yeah, as presented now, this game has serious, serious flaws. I also think you are overlooking the "average" passing attack of the Titans and Ravens. Both should be very ineffective vs a top defense like in this game. Completed passes should be a big deal, if this is truly a "sim."

Don't think I saw a stat banner the 1st quarter. Yes Ian I will probably bitch about this every video until/if I get assaulted by them.

Agreed game looks a little wide open to me. D line seems under powered.

Not seeing a real pass rush. Hope sliders help.

Game looks great though overall. Hope it can be tightened up a bit.

This is my only concern. It seems like there's no chance we'll have any type of defensive battles. Until I see a game where the DL's get some real pressure and s
a dominant DL takes over I'll feel this way.
I shouldn't have to blitz to get pressure if I have a dominant D line.

As good as the game looks and plays if every game is a 30 -20 game (or worse) that will take a huge amount of fun away from the game.
As it looks right now, why would any of us care who we have at the DL positions.

C'mon, call a spade a spade. There are more important things than whether an animation looks one way or another, or how the commentary is. Online franchise or not, this game still needs a lot of work.
I love the panic button approach around here.

I just played a game as the Patriots against the Steelers and rushed for 40 yards on 18 carries and passed for 125 (8/18).

I really question why the hell I spend all day doing this stuff only for people to freak out.

oh and forgot to mention...you def can tell there are numerous new lines from collinsworth...hammond is hammond still, but anything beats the radio announcer...great job Ian!

The hand warmers are waaay too small. It looks like Collins was wearing a fanny pack.

It looks like the play call screen coming up too fast has been fixed. After Johnson scored the first time, and after the PAT the play call screen didn't come up until the cutscene was over.

Crowd Noise is REALLY good. But the commentators seem to have a lot of awkward silence. Then just break in. You almost forget that they were talking sometimes.

PLEAAASE fix the visors and visor clips. I really am getting worried that they wont get fixed.

@5:54 in part 1, the pass to Gage, Zbikowski was out in front but didn't make a play on the ball. Should have been a deflection but he drifted back in hopes for an INT. 9 out of 10 defenders would slap that ball down or jump in front to catch it. Not drift away from the ball.

Now as I watch more, the DB's need to make more plays on balls. Too many times they go for the catch when they have no shot and are better suited to break up the play.

Too many broken tackles by CJ, and now I see Yamon Figurs break a tackle for a score. WAAAY too many broken tackles going on here.

I've noticed on penalties, and even just some normal plays, the player wont even be on the ground and it cuts to a scene. Just something to look at and maybe adjust.

Because deep down, you like it? Because you keep fooling yourself into thinking you can satisfy people here?

28-21 sounds reasonable for a Ravens/ Titans game, the last TD was just a desperation throw and we all know how those end up. Personally I thought everything looked to be pretty good gameplay wise...

# 73 Krodis @ 06/12/09 07:06 PM
Mainly it's the poor pass rush that's making the passing game more effective than it should be. That's something that still seems to be a little off-tune.

On the runs, a few too many broken tackles and some questionable pursuit angles.

Overall, still liking it a lot, but I just hope this stuff can be fixed before release.

Still a million times better than last year.

My only MAJOR gripe with this game right now is the Running Animations. Chris Johnson takes fast baby steps in real life. Not long, slow, prodding steps that he appears to be taking in this video. Its not a gamebreaker by any means, but it would be game maker if it founds its way into 10.

I'm commenting as I watch...and I'm in the mood to write...

The lighting looks VERY nice. An 'artiste' has been working and it shows in this stadium. The shadows on the field look nice and natural.

The new crowd sounds are nice. There's more ambiance and the roars sound more like roars - almost like they borrowed from the FIFA library - which is excellent. So far so good...

I definitely know we're in the playoffs - and I like it.

LOL at the game's Lead Designer pushing "A" through the brand new cutscenes. And while on the subject of cutscenes - they're GREAT. Coaches, bench drama, shirtless fans...Madden 10 has got a very pleasing visual flow.

If there's one thing that is slightly nagging
- the cutscene closeups for EVERY tackle. A little variation is needed; it's very Michael Bay right now - which is awesome but very IN YOUR FACE. It would be cool if we could see guys get tackled in the wide shot like we always have, and then cut in for the closeups when they're getting up - every now and then. Just a tiny variation so the cuts aren't so robotic. (Y'all know I edit - the cuts matter)

The 'commentary engine', if there is such a thing, could sure use a re-write. The stitching is still incredibly obvious - and with the rest of the game LOOKING so good this year - the commentary really stands out as the last "last-gen" leftover in the game. Listen to a game on AM radio - that's how it was done before TV - the play by play is awesome and if Madden sounded like that, I'd probably die.

still in progress....

I guess the this naive approach is definitely wearing off. Until I can ensure that every single play looks 100% identical to a real play in the NFL I should probably just stop trying.

This adds much more identity to each of the teams. When you have the Titans scoring 35 vs the Ravens, it goes to show again it doesnt matter whether you use an average offensive team like the Titans or a good one.
20-30%? They are NFL Quarterbacks.

It's an isolated game, we know that. What I'm trying to point out are things that will plague every game. I never mentioned, for instance, the Larry Johnson 80 yarder. I have no evidence that's a recurring issue. But defensive lines being an afterthought when running and passing and linebackers abandoning their assignments are on going issues.

If I thought the game overall sucked, I wouldn't bother.

Ian, with all due respect, you also spent a LOT of time in some really well written blogs in March selling us on a more realistic passing game and sim style gameplay. I think we all appreciated that (it seemed like you GOT it). I think everyone (including myself) certainly appreciate the videos you post (and responding to me, thanks btw), but the problems that plagued Madden over the past 5 years are there in the videos you've posted. And worse yet, you used a couple average offenses as examples (Titans/Chiefs). I didn't see any evidence of QB inaccuracy at all.

Hey, I haven't gotten a Madden game in a few years and I'm hopeful for this year, but largely because of your previous blogs and not so much because of videos you've posted. Just telling you how I see it. Time will be the ultimate judge as to whether you've been able to live up to what you guys set out to do this Spring and create a real sim. Seeing as how you're the only NFL game around, I'm certainly rooting for you...

By no means am I panicking or anything Ian...(I know your post may not have been directed at me) I trust you guys to make a great game of football, and I believe you have... I'm sure the game feels GREAT when you are playing it...

But I'm sure the reasoning for even posting these vids is to see what the community thinks and to see if stuff needs adjusting...
Just ignore the people that are purely hating... There are plenty of well-informed and constructive posts to read instead....

If your game of Patriots vs. Steelers was as defensive as you say it was, then that is GREAT. All i'm saying is when playing a game with 2 top defenses like this Ravens/ Titans game... it seems like the defense would play a little smarter and safer in a way... like the safeties would make sure to keep the plays in front of them.. Just seems like if the "big" plays can be toned down, then this game will play GREAT.
