Madden 2010 News Post

Check out the new Madden NFL 10 blog. This one features the importance of an early community day.

"On April 10, we flew in 8 of the most hardcore Madden fans for a marathon testing day to get an extremely early look at our Alpha build and provide feedback based on where the game is thus far. You may ask, “What is new about this? Haven’t you had community events in the past?” Yes, we have done these before, but there are some key differences."

For offline franchise Mode guys do you sim or play the game?

Is game play, presentation, or franchise mode (accurate stats, draft, etc. not in game related franchise things), more important?

I am just curious as to what type of players and different angles of feedback you guys would give.

By the way, I apologize if the answered are in the 30+ pages or replies.
Me, I was strictly online and game play is the most important thing for me. As far as feed back, I focused mostly on defense/front 7, tackling, pass rush stunts, linebacker behaviors, talked about adding defensive fronts to defend the jumbo offensive formations, talked about other fronts to defend certain offenses, made some notes on man coverage, wanted to see more jostling, pocket, defensive end and OLB pass rush behavior (running the arc is what I emphasized the entire trip). That's half of it anyways.

Lbzrule.. awesome feedback to hear! Defensive matchups are huge. You'll hear commentators point them out often at the beginning of a game... "Today Champ Bailey has his work cut out for him covering Chad Johnson". In a game where stars stand out more, this becomes fairly essential. I'd be pretty frustrated if it was possible to simply put their #1 WR in the slot instead of on the outside and have that simply hinder me from covering him with my #1 CB.

This is what i want to know all in a list.
1. Do the linemen kick back on passes.(footwork)
2.Will the de play different depending on the qb scrambling ability
3. Will the db's swat through a wr's hands instead of swatting the ball.
4. Will the fb block better and turn his guy away from the running back giving him a lane.
5.Is there more of a push from a good run blocking team.
6.Do db's and lb's turn there hips when changing directions.
7. HB blast a pulling guard is supposed to hit the DT, if the DT is crashing the Guard washes him down if the DT is not crashing the guard pushes him out rb comes through of his back.
8. On a bootleg does Tackle get outside of the DE and wall him off.
9. How many seconds did it take for the Dline to get to the qb. (it should be around 4 seconds)
10. On a goaline play did the Dline change there stance? and what about bear crawling to cause a pullup making it hard for the qb sneaks to work.
11. Is there Defensive holding.

I could go on but I just want to cover simple assignments.

Interesting thought, I'm not sure the tourney guys would want to divulge that info though, do you?

The weak olb always slide to the inside and did not play with any containment. It's been flagged as a serious problem. On the community day feed back screen you will notice, "too easy to get to the outside on run plays." That's me !! But the discussion was on what the OLB's are allowing and also what the MLB's and ILB's are not doing.
Very nice work, I have another question did anybody bring up how the tackles don't hook the DE's on bootlegs? It's always straight up blocking and no footwork. That is what makes an athletic Tackle so valuable there able to hook DE or not let them get around them. I think footwork should play a big part in developing a pocket.

There's no way in hell I'm going back to read over 500 posts to find out who the knuckleheads are in this thread. If someone wants to PM me to tell me where to start looking, that's fine. I'll just remind you folks that we've already banned 4 people from the Madden Forums for breaking the rules. I'm sure more will come. Try not to let it be you.

Let's calm down in here, guys. Try to act like grown ups.

Since you looked at pass rush stunts you should know about this. The Titans made this work great Haynsworth on the outside and Vanderbosh at DT. Vander would stunt to the outside taking the guard and tackle with him while haynsworth loops around and it gave a lot of people trouble. What I want to know is are double stunts more affective? they never seem to be in madden because the Oline would block it everytime.

If this is the Madden we've been waiting for(for the most part), I'm interested in seeing how the gaming sites will feel about this version of Madden. Will they embrace it, or shun it for the change?

I think for next year community day EA should invite half hardcore sim guys and half tourny style ballers. I can't wait to get my hands on this game so I can break it down. LBRulez on sweeps did the DE ever try to contain the run and push the rb back inside?
I don't think they want to have any fighting inside Tiburon LOL. I know SIM Ballers can not stand Cheesers. I for one at times wish the cheeser I was playing was sitting next to me

This is what I am TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!

I play APF 2K8 everyday and my favorite part of that game is the LB's and D-Line. I usually spend my Gold and Silvers on defense and I love defense more than Offense all the time. I would really love to see the front 7 of Madden 10 mean something!!!

Great work LB!!!!

That's a good thought. I'd like to see what happens as well. Last year IGN gave 09 a 9.1. If it's any lower than that for 10, we'll know what happened lol!

Kids would fight, We all want a good game and one that we will play all night instead of getting some sleep for work. Let the sim guys play in there group and Tourny players in there group that way each group will be more organized.

Exactly. I'm really interested to know how the magazines and gaming sites will view this Madden. Madden under the former regime has gotten constantly good scores. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

Gotta give you credit, stux, at least you're asking before accusing us of being casuals who don't know jack about football and don't want a sim game anyways.

I actually am hoping for a huge update of Superstar mode someday because I'd love to do that. NFL Head Coach ruined my view of "playing" these games. Controlling everyone kinda kills my suspension of disbelief. I'm really only recently, because of FIFA and Madden 10, started recovering from it.

But really I'm a coach at heart, and you can't call the plays in superstar mode, so off-line franchise is definitely my primary method of play. That's why I love NFL Head Coach.

Purist.. I play every game, including preseason.

Gameplay is #1 for me.My second choice, Franchise mode depth, is very important to me, but accuracy trumps it. If stats are way off, if trades are unrealistic, if the CPU can't manage it's roster, if I am not challenged by the cap, it's pointless.

I honestly spent a lot of time harping on the offensive line play, pockets forming, QB accuracy when on the move, things like that. I should have spent a lot more time in franchise, but it was a bit unstable (alpha build) on my machine (for some reason, mine was more unstable than others). Stats looked great, draft logic seemed good in limited exposure too it. Contracts weren't fully tuned yet, so that's tougher to say yet... Looman laughed at me when my #1 overall CB was costing me 100 million over 6 years. He said that wasn't done yet.

I'll be honest with you, we all really could have used a second day. As good a feedback as I think we gave, I felt we were disorganized and rather willy nilly in our time with the game. I hit everything I wanted too, but I didn't always follow up, and certain things (franchise mode, sliders) I didn't put enough time or "science" into. Some issues only occurred in practice mode, for example, so finding it one place didn't mean it appeared everywhere.

I did not test this game, for example, the way I tested the Madden Manifesto in '04 or MaddenAmp ever since. I'm meticulous when I plan for it. I didn't plan well enough for this.
