Excuse my ignorance here guys because im new to the series and know little about the inner workings of the game.

The only problem im seeing here is the fielding. It seems like when im in the field the game is set to "semi assistance". What I mean by that is when the ball is hit in the air sometimes the game already has my player moving in that direction. Is there a way to turn this off?

Second is there a reason why every single throw is a bullet? Is this a common problem with this series? It's not a huge deal for me because I don't see it effecting the outcome of the games. But at the same time it just seems off.

What's the deal with the HR cam? I thought this was fixed for '09 based on the Texieria dinger in the Yankee Stadium video.

I was just playing the demo and hit a walk-off with Utley but it went to the same old HR cam where it showed a close up of Utley as soon as I made contact. Then it showed him cheerfully running the bases and his teammates mobbing him at home - but I never once saw the flight of the ball. I have no idea where it landed, what field it went to or how far it went. This was by far my biggest presentation pet peeve from the last few years, I thought this was fixed. I see there are a few HR cam options in the options menu but does that completely disable HR cutscenes? I don't want to miss out on the zoomed out, great cutscenes like the Texieria one.

Turn off home run celebrations and the no doubter scene will go away for the most part.

And you still get the replay after as well.

So do you think the Texiera one in the vid is a cutscene or just the regular camera view? I want THAT, lol. It was sucha thing of beauty.

It is a replay done in broadcast cam. What will happen is the home run is hit, with home run celebrations off, it will follow the ball and then you usually get a replay after in that broadcast cam.

I hit a walkoff w/ Rollins last night, but what was the isht was that i had HR celebration turned OFF, & Rollins hit a TOWERING fly ball back in to deep right field...the RF was going back...back...back...up against the wall,LEAPS...& IT"s
OUTA HERE...HR. you could see the RF layin' on his AZZ afterwards
Rollins almost misses 1st( McGwire-esque)

Good stuff, I will try it out. Too bad I hit a HR once about every 25 innings, LOL. Might be a while before I see it.

This is just embarrassing but ...I can't hit for the life of me on All - star. Almost every swing is early

Glenn, try changing you batting camera angle.

Try offset. It's wonderful for picking up the ball.

Also have you seen this in the Demo?

Maybe its fixed?
I know what you're talking about Mike. I've seen it quite a few times myself in the demo and last year. Its annoying as all get out.

Sadly, Longoria decided not to let me have it. Bomb to right field. In the bottom of the third, I was fooled on a breaking ball but it hung up just enough for Utley to bounce it off of the foul pole. Didn't think it would stay fair, but it did.

Bottom of the fourth, and Victorino gets on with a walk! I then stole second with one out. Next guy up rockets one to the second baseman and it eats him up. Sadly, he kept it in the infield and I only wound up with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Next pitch is a slider in the dirt. Bounces away from the catcher but no far enough for Victorino to score. The guy on first made it to second, however, getting rid of that forceout. Sadly, the batter whiffed on a NASTY slider bringing up the pitcher with two outs. Fastball down the middle and I hit a lazy fly ball to center field. Inning over.

Game went to the 7th inning with the Rays finally getting another run on a pop-fly homerun JUST out of the reach of Victorino. I timed the jump just wrong and I swear it bounced off of his glove for a HR. Bottom of the inning, Kazmir walks the leadoff guy, gets a double play (DAMN SLIDER!!!) and the next guy up rockets a double down the left field line. (Over the third baseman's head and into the corner). The crowd is going crazy as the final batter steps up. Joe Madden comes out and brings in a reiever. On the third pitch (count even at 1-1) I guessed fastball and got it. Hit it high, hit it far, hit it to the deepest part of the ballpark into the center fielder's glove on the warning track. Game over.

The final lines were:

Kazmir: 6.2 innings. 2 walks, 6 strikeouts, 5 hits, 1 run.
Hamels: 7 innings. 2 walks, 6 strikeouts, 4 hits, 2 runs.

AWESOME game with oh-so realistic line scores!
Nice.
I'm having such a good time...even with this 4 inning(+?) demo...even with two teams..and the same players.
I can't wait to get the full game....I'm fiending!

I had a no hitter going in the 5th today and it showed a stat at the bottom that a tampa bay pitcher has never had a no hitter, pretty cool but it jinked me, lol

been playing the demo non-stop since last thursday and very good stuff....

One thing that's annoying is the HRs in the show. I don't mean HITTING them, because that feels awesome. But I feel like the HRs really lack suspense.

Yes I know , turn off the HR celebrations, but even that really doesn't make any difference.

let me give you an example:

in real life if a HR is hit and it's a no doubter the announcers and the player and the fans know it - this is HR celebration worthy ( think MAtt Stairs HR in the NLCS)

But those HRs that clear the wall by like 5 rows are also most of the time represented by the HR celebration and even if we turn it off, the crowd's reaction and the announcer's reaction gives it away as soon as you make contact. No suspense whatsoever.....

whatever happened to back back and it's gone

or back and back to the waaallll, just misses it as it hits off the top of the wall.

Very few HRs in the demo give off that feeling of suspense and it shouldn't be that way, it takes away some of the thrill of hitting one out IMO.

I hope you guys know what I'm talking about......

very small nitpick, but I hope they fix this for the retail version and make a great game even better....

Just had an awesome game where i won as the Phillies in the bottom of the 12th. I am finding out that i strike out a lot, like way more than i did last year. Last year i played on HOF and i'm only playing the demo on All-star. Is anybody else seeing an increase in the number of strikeouts, or is my timing off?

Yes, stikeouts are very high for me. I cringe when I have 2 strikes on me. I am seeing less foul tips. Could be a combination of zone hitting (L stick) and timing this year. Folks who use x exclusively maybe frustrated this year or move down to a lower level. Most k's come on pitches slightly on or off the black where the plate awareness with X only doesn't make contact.

Perhaps sliders may help but the sliders have been reworked so I'm not going to lower anything yet. Pitch movement is tougher this year and the AI throws more offspeed and sliders with 2 strikes. This could also contribute.

Hitting will be a challenge that's for sure.
