I did see a very strange play just now..1st time in over 100 games, but on a line drive past 2nd towards the gap Werth turned and took 5 steps or so running away from the ball ( like he was scared) lol
it ended up going to the wall for a double
This was CPU vs CPU

probably a real fluke but curious if anyone has seen it before

I had a no hitter going in the 5th today and it showed a stat at the bottom that a tampa bay pitcher has never had a no hitter, pretty cool but it jinked me, lol

Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here

been playing the demo non-stop since last thursday and very good stuff....

One thing that's annoying is the HRs in the show. I don't mean HITTING them, because that feels awesome. But I feel like the HRs really lack suspense.

Yes I know , turn off the HR celebrations, but even that really doesn't make any difference.

let me give you an example:

in real life if a HR is hit and it's a no doubter the announcers and the player and the fans know it - this is HR celebration worthy ( think MAtt Stairs HR in the NLCS)

But those HRs that clear the wall by like 5 rows are also most of the time represented by the HR celebration and even if we turn it off, the crowd's reaction and the announcer's reaction gives it away as soon as you make contact. No suspense whatsoever.....

whatever happened to back back and it's gone

or back and back to the waaallll, just misses it as it hits off the top of the wall.

Very few HRs in the demo give off that feeling of suspense and it shouldn't be that way, it takes away some of the thrill of hitting one out IMO.

I hope you guys know what I'm talking about......

very small nitpick, but I hope they fix this for the retail version and make a great game even better....

Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here

Just had an awesome game where i won as the Phillies in the bottom of the 12th. I am finding out that i strike out a lot, like way more than i did last year. Last year i played on HOF and i'm only playing the demo on All-star. Is anybody else seeing an increase in the number of strikeouts, or is my timing off?

Yes, stikeouts are very high for me. I cringe when I have 2 strikes on me. I am seeing less foul tips. Could be a combination of zone hitting (L stick) and timing this year. Folks who use x exclusively maybe frustrated this year or move down to a lower level. Most k's come on pitches slightly on or off the black where the plate awareness with X only doesn't make contact.

Perhaps sliders may help but the sliders have been reworked so I'm not going to lower anything yet. Pitch movement is tougher this year and the AI throws more offspeed and sliders with 2 strikes. This could also contribute.

Hitting will be a challenge that's for sure.

Quick question for you all... do the catchers take off their masks for popups?

Heh, I can almost guarantee you that they didn't rework/re-record the entire commentary implementation for HR's in the little time they had between demo and retail.
