Quick question for you all... do the catchers take off their masks for popups?

Heh, I can almost guarantee you that they didn't rework/re-record the entire commentary implementation for HR's in the little time they had between demo and retail.

Thanks for the answer. It's a small detail that could be added in a future version, would have been cool though.

One thing that's annoying is the HRs in the show. I don't mean HITTING them, because that feels awesome. But I feel like the HRs really lack suspense.

Yes I know , turn off the HR celebrations, but even that really doesn't make any difference.

let me give you an example:

in real life if a HR is hit and it's a no doubter the announcers and the player and the fans know it - this is HR celebration worthy ( think MAtt Stairs HR in the NLCS)

But those HRs that clear the wall by like 5 rows are also most of the time represented by the HR celebration and even if we turn it off, the crowd's reaction and the announcer's reaction gives it away as soon as you make contact. No suspense whatsoever.....

whatever happened to back back and it's gone

or back and back to the waaallll, just misses it as it hits off the top of the wall.

Very few HRs in the demo give off that feeling of suspense and it shouldn't be that way, it takes away some of the thrill of hitting one out IMO.

I hope you guys know what I'm talking about......

Ever hit a long fly ballto the track yet??? Do that and listen to the crowd and announcers they soudn the same as if it was 5 rows up so there is somewhat suspense I think its YOU knowing that its going to go out. I like the no-doubters and how they stand there and flick there bats cuz it gives me that extra umph like HECK YEA!!! TAKE THAT!! kinda thing

I finally got my PS3 yesterday and downloaded the demo last night. Wow. The graphics are just sick. That's the only word I can use to describe it. I've only played one 4-inning game. I held the Rays to just one hit, a two-out triple in the top of the 4th by Crawford. In my first at-bat I hit a solo homer with Rollins and then the only other hit I got was a flare to CF by Hamels in the 3rd. I can't wait for March 3rd.

I dled this demo two days ago and I'm in absolute love with this game.

I liked 08 for a bit and then got bored. I complained time and time again about the hitting system being too simplistic and it killed the game for me.

Well, I'm not sure if maybe I'm just going crazy, but there seems to be a closer to zone-like system this year. If I swing up on a pitch low, I will miss and that has made the game that much more improved for me.

The lighting is absolutely amazing. I always play (pitch and hit) with the outfield cam and seeing the light bounce off Hamels neck and right shoulder was just jaw-dropping. I've seen comments about the shadows affecting people's hitting. I guess I won't ever notice that since I don't play in the catcher cam. But, knowing that's possible is still nice to know.

The player models are simply stunning this year. There is a definite huge improvement from 08. I'm not sure if it's just the lighting that makes it seem that way, but the players definitely look to be in higher res during the pitcher/batter battle. Like Sammy says: "It's so real!"

Replay cam is amazing. Hit variety is phenomenal. I really really like the outfielder cuts to the ball. Such a subtle change that makes the game more realistic.

Interestingly enough, I have played four times and have yet to see a homerun. I find that encouraging.

Oh, and pitch counts are wow and that's without any slider changes.

I was really looking forward to MLB 2k9, but now it's either two games this year or just The Show 09. I really can't get enough of this demo.

just played a game where I had back to back doubles followed by back to back homers. I was the Phils and this is by far my most impressive offensive output thus far with the demo.

Why did they count it as a hit?

Also I was very happy to see an outfielder drop a ball like that because I am pretty sure I have never seen that before in 08.

I just wish it would have been an error on the scorboard.
I would strongly assume that this has been fixed for final release.

That's strange, because the same thing happened to me and it was an error. I was like that's some BS, but in a good way.

Yeah, most of the little things that sent me off in last year's game are either gone or only occur once every 15-20 demo playthroughs.

The best play I've seen is a game-ending DP: I snagged the ball, while running, with Utley, tossed it behind the back to Rollins, who stepped on the bag then gunned it to Howard.

I see a home run a game -- most of the runs I score or allow are via the long bomb -- but other than that, scores are low-to-medium and hard fought. Typically, 0-4 runs with 3-7 hits per side so I'm fine with that for now.

The wife and I cannot wait for the game to come out but, man, I never want to see the Phillies and Rays again once I'm through with the demo.

One last thing -- great work on all the little touches. I'm excited to see how many audio clips and cutscenes will be in the final version. After all, the game will likely be, what, 30 or more GB than the demo? I'm drooling already.

Was it an over the head running attempt? That could the reason it was scored a hit.

I just got my HDTV a few hours ago, and I was blown away with the visuals! I played '08 in HD at friends houses, but the '09 demo looks so much better!! I just made the wait for '09 that much harder.
