I dont know guys, I'm really, really trying and I am just not feeling it.

Last night's series of games is typical of the frustration that I experience playing this game.

Playing on default all star, I played Lakers(me) vs. Suns, 3 times, and didnt make it through a entire game once before just being at wits end.

I start out playing defense on the PG, and then I scan around to see who is where and in the best position to cause me damage, and who I can afford to "cheat off" of and offer help D if I need to. When the shot clock gets to 10, I dig in on whoever has the ball and contest myself.

No matter what I do, how I play them, the CPU figures out some way to invariably shaft me throughout the game.

I'll have the CPU bail themselves out with a laser cut when I have done everything correctly and have them dead in the water:

I can have someone take a shot who I WANT to take the shot..like Grant Hill being forced to shoot from 23 feet out, he either drains the shot, or some miraculous tip in from Shaq or Amare happens.

I can come in and manually trap Amare when he has deep post position, and when he tries to pass out, the ball will always bounce off of my guy who he passed it RIGHT to, and I see Shaq fling himself after the ball and save it for a easy basket.

When I assign a double team to come automatically in the psot. My teammates have the bright idea to double off of leandro barbosa. I really wish we had the option to 'double big, double small, doube hard, or double soft".

Whenever I have a long rebound, turnover, and think I have a fatsbreak started, I see that 3 guys have somehow managed to teleport back on defense.

Yet my guys are constantly being leaked out against no matter what I have my sliders on, my PG always wants to retreat to the paint, instead of trying to stop the ball...and the cpu has no such issues as to who to rotate off of.

I'm giving this game every shake imaginable and it continues to piss me off. I WANT to like it because it looks so darn good and the animations are so fluid, but I dont want to play a game of "Beat the cpu at its own game and jam the ball into the paint"..either.

I get that the game is going to adjust and be adaptive. I get that. I like and expect that.

But it seems to me that the adjustments are in the form of jamming me up with a broomstick, as opposed to things happening on the court that make actual basketball sense.

My last 2 options is to play with clutch "off" on all star, or play on pro.

Aight got rid of all sliders and rosters and all that stuff and post patch i am finally able to get though a few games and dare I say have a little enjoyment. Right now on pro with 2k rosters and default everything.

Looking pretty good. My cameras are still a bit choopy when I get too close though. Oh I have the player speed at 0.

still have my issues but able to see a little beauty now.

Maybe I need to give pro a serious look, because all star is going to give me a heart attack at the rate things are going.

Fly with were your at with this title I would say put it down for a few weeks man and maybe come back to it.

Before the patch with special rosters and sliders I really couldn't stand the game so I played it sparingly and then just put it down. Keep playing the other game and you may get to a place where you really want to play something different and when that happens go default everything including rosters ( maybe take the speed down though) and you may find as I did an enjoyable experience.

I see major differences in the cpu attack compared to pre patch.

The reason everyone has all these different opinions are all the dam tweeking going on. 2k made their adjustments with their rosters and the game as shipped. to see anything relevant it would make sense to me to start there first and then adjust as necessary.

Just my 2 cents Bro

Oh wow, they added back in 2k cam online. Is there lag with it? Is the lag with 2k cam in singleplayer totally gone?

i played pre-patch games with 2k roster anf default sliders, i did the same with the patch. In both cases the game is unplayable.

it needs sliders in any case....that's a fact...

Personally, I still think the shooting is still slightly high. I typically don't end up with anything less than 50% (default). I'd like to see some lower shot %'s, which is why I've had to lower the shooting sliders post patch to my similar 42, 47, 45 scale. I think I'm at 43, 48, 46 right now. It's nice because it works, much like Live's shooting sliders. Thankfully I can lower both so I don't end up with the constant 55%+ shooting from both games out of the box. Life is good.

I love the variance this game brings. People complain about the "scrubs" doing well, but that's not the norm from what I've seen. It's a rarity. Just thought I'd bring this point up the same night after Barea drops a season high 18 (with what, 9 pts. in the 4th?) and Bonner scores a team leading 12 pts. in the first half.

I've played games where a star can score 5-10 points one game, then replayed the same game and they score 30+. All with default rosters.

I guess I'll throw in the obligatory "I must have a good copy."

Isn't the game optimized for 720p? If so....stick to 720p; even if your tv is 1080p, the game looks better in the resolution it was optimized (less choppiness).

I obviously disagree at this point. But I have not spent a lot of time with the game. So I respectifully disagree, today, that the game needing sliders for me... is a fact

Probably because it's true.

I see a bunch of new random animations... everything from defenders putting a hand out to test their man at the top of the key to different dribble moves with guys like Jamal Tinsley (I have him in a league and I saw 3 or 4 new animations in a game yesterday). Don't know if they were just "unlocked" by some of the changes in gameplay or if it was actually a new animation package that came out with the patch, but I'm a fan.

And the crossovers seem tweaked.. they trigger more easily and you can do two of them quickly where before you'd often do another move or some random twitchy business instead of the 2nd quick crossover. It's deadly online now... back up and get some space, crossover, step-back, jumper... money.

Also, it seems as shooting out of the jab step happen a lot faster now. There was a small delay that really ruined the jumpshot rhythm and caused it to get blocked a lot -- with guys like Melo and Kobe who shoot out of the triple threat a lot, that was tough to get over.. seems much better now.

Iso is way more slick. I've done some crazy stuff since the patch.

# 335 Stumbleweed @ 12/05/08 02:07 PM
Yeah I need to capture some craziness... I've absolutely sonned some people online with that in and out yo-yo move that you do by pressing RT + away from basket then quickly towards.. The crossovers are so nasty now with guys like Tony Parker.. almost unfair how quick you blow past someone when you get a little space, but that's the way that dude is in real-life too.. gotta foul him.

That's another thing I've noticed -- a lot more fouls called in general, especially in online games. People that are constantly reaching with the PG seem to pick up 2 quick fouls in the first pretty often.. and if you burn the initial man, you tend to get hammered at the basket instead of getting blocked or scoring more than before.

The contact at the basket after dribble penetration is MUCH better after the patch. As long as you don't have a cheesy finisher like Kobe or Lebron, the dribble penetration system is fantastic. Passing out of those animations with the help and everything...ah, love this game.

What do u have ur triple threat slider set too?

# 339 Stumbleweed @ 12/05/08 03:36 PM
Default I guess, since I was mainly referring to online games on the jab step comment (since I don't play offline often). There was a big hitch before (I noticed it in the demo when trying to triple threat people to death with Paul Pierce) but it's a lot faster now and you can actually utilize those moves before a shot effectively.

it looks fine at 1080p just a little blurry but playing in philly was worse than any other arena. terrible! lol
