As for what has been done in this patch, I don't like the fact now that even wide open non contested shots seem to miss A LOT. Also the fact that even if you are a little contested there is next to no chance the shot will go in, that is not entirely realistic. Players in the NBA are capable of making shot contested, yes the chances of making the shot should decrease with good defense and shot contesting, but it should not be as nearly low percentage as it appears to be post patch. That goes for 3 pointers and mid range.
bump up ur shot success slider until ur happy with ur results. thats what its thier for

"I can't back down", "I can back down", "shooting is much harder", shooting is much easier" etc. IMHO it speaks to how differently we all play the game.

FWIW I play on all-star..

My experience after two games with the patch is I can still play with the same sliders I was using (bizcanos v5) with minor tweaks.

I turned up "layup success" to counter the PiP scoring being harder. Layup success in bizcanos was too low IMHO as a way to keep shooting percentage down to realistic levels.

I left inside shooting the same which surprised me a little. I anticipated having to tweak that upwards a bit with the patch.

Outside shooting I decreased slightly as it became easier to hit open shots (ie more realistic IMHO). Prepatch only Kobe and Vujacic were hitting threes at a realistic level. Post patch if I find the open guy, ie Radmanovich, Fish, Walton, Farmar, they will more than likely hit the shot. Same if the D sinks in to take away passing lanes to the inside.

The only other thing I have changed so far is the human commit fouls. My last game prepatch was at Philly and Odom actually fouled out and Bynum was in trouble all game. My two game post patch I hardly committed any fouls but maybe some of that was due to the opponent, Washington and Milwaukee.

So, other than shooting pct being a bit high and fouls a bit low the game played well with my current sliders.

I like the new post play better than the old. I agree with others that you can make a move if your guy gets good position before receiving the pass. If he has one foot in the lane he should be good to go. One foot right on the edge of the lane he has a chance. If he gets the ball a foot from the lane he's pretty much toast and can either face up or kick it out.

As far as the cpu always cutting back door I didn't see it (at unrealistic levels) prepatch nor post patch. But with this years version I concentrate harder playing defense than I do offense, because I think, like real life, to be successful you have to. I switch to guys on the wings and take away the backdoor cuts if I think they are coming.

Thumbs up so far
Well thought out, educated, and all around good post.

Love the patch. Took a little getting used to the new post dynamic initially. At default it's probably too unforgiving but I could see the change improving the online experience immediately. I like that it's forced me to to become more proficient with the post moves and is much more about positioning. Either way, like most things in the game it's tweakable; the 60/40 Strength tweak works fine also.

Overall the game is just more seamless, much smoother, a more cohesive/tighter package. Animations were already by far the best ever in a sports game and yet 2K was able to make them even better. I'm just amazed I still see new stuff practically every game, and collision detection appears to have been improved. Shot percentages are still on the high side at default but easily can be adjusted to taste via sliders. The way the game ramps up between the various difficulty levels still isn't as graceful as in 2K7 or 2K8, but it's better than it was pre-patch. And this game is doing a LOT more than either of those did. Getting a great/varied game experience on Pro myself. I had the cpu d-me up in the backcourt on one possession and cause me to get an 8-second call - had to smile on that one because it was a surprise. In the past I would force the animation to kick in where I angle by the defender, but because of the way I was being played I didn't think about passing until it was too late (forget who it was guarding me). So many subtle nuances to the gameplay. Either way, loved the game pre-patch - love it even more post-patch

it just seems too easy to get to the hoop.... I either make the shot or get fouled....it seems like the defenders should be able to get in my way and stop me from driving in all the time....I think there needs to be better collision detection....

Re: NBA 2K9 Patch Released For 360/PS3, Impressions Here

I dont know guys, I'm really, really trying and I am just not feeling it.

Last night's series of games is typical of the frustration that I experience playing this game.

Playing on default all star, I played Lakers(me) vs. Suns, 3 times, and didnt make it through a entire game once before just being at wits end.

I start out playing defense on the PG, and then I scan around to see who is where and in the best position to cause me damage, and who I can afford to "cheat off" of and offer help D if I need to. When the shot clock gets to 10, I dig in on whoever has the ball and contest myself.

No matter what I do, how I play them, the CPU figures out some way to invariably shaft me throughout the game.

I'll have the CPU bail themselves out with a laser cut when I have done everything correctly and have them dead in the water:

I can have someone take a shot who I WANT to take the shot..like Grant Hill being forced to shoot from 23 feet out, he either drains the shot, or some miraculous tip in from Shaq or Amare happens.

I can come in and manually trap Amare when he has deep post position, and when he tries to pass out, the ball will always bounce off of my guy who he passed it RIGHT to, and I see Shaq fling himself after the ball and save it for a easy basket.

When I assign a double team to come automatically in the psot. My teammates have the bright idea to double off of leandro barbosa. I really wish we had the option to 'double big, double small, doube hard, or double soft".

Whenever I have a long rebound, turnover, and think I have a fatsbreak started, I see that 3 guys have somehow managed to teleport back on defense.

Yet my guys are constantly being leaked out against no matter what I have my sliders on, my PG always wants to retreat to the paint, instead of trying to stop the ball...and the cpu has no such issues as to who to rotate off of.

I'm giving this game every shake imaginable and it continues to piss me off. I WANT to like it because it looks so darn good and the animations are so fluid, but I dont want to play a game of "Beat the cpu at its own game and jam the ball into the paint"..either.

I get that the game is going to adjust and be adaptive. I get that. I like and expect that.

But it seems to me that the adjustments are in the form of jamming me up with a broomstick, as opposed to things happening on the court that make actual basketball sense.

My last 2 options is to play with clutch "off" on all star, or play on pro.

Maybe I need to give pro a serious look, because all star is going to give me a heart attack at the rate things are going.
